Hi all,

Switched back to android after trying apple for a few months. Im now looking for a watch to replace my AW7, One thing i love about the AW is rich notifications when someone comes to my front door from my nest doorbell which works great. Previous android watches ive had never did this or if they did it was inconstant .

Does the GW5 do this? Showing a pic/video when someone presses the doorbell . Anyone have a nest and GW5 confirm this works?

Thanks

We have Nest cameras and yes the GW5 does show pictures as long as you have notifications for the Nest app setup to notify you on the GW5.

I get a notification on my G Home app but when I click it I have to open it on my phone to see video. How did you do that? Oh, I have a Pixel device maybe that's it?

Mine does it automatically. I just make sure notifications for the Nest app are enabled on my GW5. I have a S22 Ultra. What pops up on my watch is just a picture from the camera that caught it. Most times it is our driveway camera that caught a car driving up the street. If it is a sound then I don't get a picture.

Ok thanks. It must have something to do with the phone then. I might just need a modded home app for it to work.

I also have a Pixel 7 Pro and have had it work fine. I think that it is only certain things like motion that triggers the picture for the cameras. We don't have a Nest doorbell but I would think it works the same.

This is what I get. Nest camera.

This is what I just read from December. https://9to5google.com/2022/12/14/google-home-nest-cam-preview-wear-os/

So are you using the Nest app or Google Home. Seems like that's the difference possibly.
I have both as 2 of our 7 cameras are Goggle/Nest Home Hubs and those have to be setup in the Home app for the initial setup. I don't know why mine seems to work. My notifications come from the Nest app as I don't have notifications from the Home app enabled on my phone or watch. I do have the Nest app notifications enabled on both my phone and watch no matter which phone I am using.

I also have some other devices that I monitor through the Home app such as dome smart appliances.

I do remember an article I read either last year or in late 2021 saying that all Nest would be eventually switching over to the Home app and they would be doing away with the Nest app.

I think they might have already ditched it. I just installed the Home app on the watch but still the same. I'll get it and let you know how I did it. Frustrating though since you have it and I don't. lol

That's odd since it was just updated on 12/14/22. It may be some setting I have setup but I wouldn't for the life of me be able to tell you what setting it could be.

No problem. I hope you get it working. Best of luck.
No luck. I sideloaded the Home companion app but it can't connect. Nest sideload wouldn't load at all after installing. I did see that Samsung is going to update something or other to allow it but that's not yet. Keep your Nest account working I do believe that will be going away soon. Hopefully by that time Samsung will have the new app working.

I have to sign-in to Nest with my Google account. They no longer allow people to sign up without using a Google account.

The nest app will not install on my watch. Which version do you have? Is that the notification app you can open with video? This is just ridiculous they put out an app that does nothing.

I don't have the Nest app installed on my watch. I just have it checked to receive notifications from Nest on my watch.

I don't know what I have done that will cause it to show a picture on my watch for certain notifications. Like I said, it seems to only do it for certain camera events.

I was just guessing. I might try that app but I have to run. I did d/l the Home app but it's still called "preview" with limited functionality. But there is a companion app that might work so I'll try that later. Thanks again.
