Hii,

I looked around and couldn't find any similar thread.

My network provider is Aircel in Chennai, India. MotoG4 Plus. Android 6.0.1

Most of the time my phone displays 'H' next to the network signal bar. Mobile internet works perfectly fine. As soon I make a call, the 'H' changes to 'G' and voice quality is pretty bad. Isn't it suppose to be 3G (H) for the calls too? Sometimes an '!' mark also appears at the end of the mobile signal. Not sure how to fix this. Voice quality is bad.

Any help?

Networks in India, aside from the major ones (Airtel, BSNL, Vodafone etc), usually have deals with the major ones for the 3g spectrum. Which means, the 3g bandwidth you are using in your telecom circle is of an another network's... However, the 2g spectrum is still your operator's spectrum & not a different one. Therefore, if you call, the operator forcefully switches your network from 3g to 2g. If you want calling in 3g, use a network that has bought the spectrum in your circle (usually Airtel, BSNL & Vodafone).
A similar thing exists with "VoLTE". LTE in India right now (with the exception of Jio) falls back onto 3g/2g for calling, while using 4g fr data. Whereas, VoLTE uses LTE for calling too.

The exclamation mark indicates that the phone can't connect to Google servers to verify whether your Internet is active.
