Okay so I did some testing.

The official and Chiaki apps are very basic, but work. No key mapping, hotkeys, etc.

PStreamer is the easiest to set up with the easiest and best looking interface. It is the worst in terms of stream quality and input lag (it's not bad just not as good as the others), however I still like this one because it is very stable (stable release). Has the least amount of customizability and doesn't have the ability to set hotkeys (button + button = in-game button). However you can map gamepad keys as well as customize on screen buttons. It doesn't have the ability for voice chat currently. Allows on screen button rumble, but not rumble when gamepad input is used. Allows multiple input profiles for gamepad/on-screen. It allows multiple PS4 profiles. Allows functionality on Android TV and mobile data, and hardware decoding. I've been using this one for quite some time.

PSPlay is easy to set up, but not as easy as PStreamer. It has a pretty decent interface, but definitely not the best. It seems to be tied with REPL4Y in terms of stream quality. Input lag is minimal and better than the others. It seems pretty stable despite being in beta. It has an insane amount of customizability, especially when it comes to on screen and gamepad mapping, and has the ability to set hotkeys. It doesn't currently have voice chat. Allows in screen button rumble, but not rumble when gamepad input is used. Allows multiple input profiles for gamepad/on-screen. It allows for multiple PS4 profiles. Allows functionality on Android TV and mobile data, and allows you to use your phone as a controller only, and hardware decoding. I just started testing this one, but it will probably be the one I use in the future.

REPL4Y is the most difficult to to set up by far. It's kind of confusing, but not actually hard to do. Not a fan of the interface. It's tied with PSPlay on terms of stream quality. Input lag is minimal. It isn't very stable as it seems to crash quite frequently. It has a lot of button gamepad button customizability, doesn't require sign in for PSN, has the ability to set hotkeys, only one with PIP (picture-in-picture) mode. It is the only one with current voice chat functionality (no PTT). It allows both screen on-screen and gamepad button rumble. It allows for multiple input profiles for gamepad inputs, but has no customizability for on-screen buttons. It allows for multiple PS4 profiles. Allows functionality on Android TV and mobile data, and hardware decoding. I won't use this one until some of the kinks are worked out.

My daily driver will be either PStreamer (what I currently use) or PSPlay. PSPlay seems to be (so far) the better out of the two - by a Longshot (minus interface), with the most customizability for bitrate, dividing, audio, input, lag, etc. REPL4Y has some unique features, but needs some work in the development space. I like the idea of PIP and voice chat, which REPL4Y has, but it lacks the stability and some basic functionality such as remapping or customizing on screen buttons, along with frequent crashes.

Man if y'all devs pulled together, you could probably create something even greater.

I too have done some further testing, I have been having streaming quality issues when using my Samsung galaxy tab s2, stream would pixalte, using a wired lan connected PS4 pro, with 5ghz wireless connection to my devices.

But when streaming my pc to my Samsung s2 tab tablet for gaming using the Moonlight app no issue at 80,000 bit rate over my 5ghz WiFi connection.

Psplay works great on my Nvida shield and on my oneplus 7t phone....

So I kind of assumed the issue was with my s2 tab (still a capable device), I was going to buy a new tablet to run Psplay (great app)

But I have this evening downloaded Pstreamer app using the 2 week trail and it works perfectly on my Samsung galaxy tab s2....

On the Psplay app on my galaxy tab s2, I have tried pretty much every combination on the streaming settings, always the same issue with the stream quality showing odd artifacting, so it is not my connection, my Bluetooth controller or the tablet, I also tried both connection methods direct and the enter the IP of the PS4, both connected but still the same issue.

Is there any log files I can send so the app can be updated to work better with the Samsung tab s2?

I was wondering, if the tablets resolution was causing the issue (1536x2048 pixels) or perhaps the CPU / chipset (Exynos 5433).

I hope that PSplay can be fixed to work correctly with the galaxy s2 tab, as it works perfectly with Pstreamer.

It's probably the chipset

Fair enough, so with the tablet working perfectly with the Pstreamer app, I'm guessing the PSplay app needs some optimization for the Exynos 5433 chipset..

Wow many thanks for the detailed feedback. Of course I have plans to add rumble and voice chat as well but will take some time of course. I'm currently rewriting the gamepad mapping functionally as some users have some problems. In general I always try to improve PSPlay. If you want to send me some suggestions of how I can improve the user interface that would be great. I thought that it looks not that bad but I'm just the developer and a developer usually always sees through rose-colored glasses when he looks on his own application ^^ So any feedback is welcome.

Yeah that's pretty weird. I have some Samsung devices by my own but everything works. It could really be the chipset but I don't know exactly. Could you please try to play around with the real time deciding settings and the don't drop frames and look if that helps?

I have tried real time decoding and don't drop frame rates , it does not appear to drop frame, it artifacts rather than stutters, it appears to be a decoding issue.

Well I don't want to compare your app to the others, but it's fair given that there are other options. As a developer myself I understand where you're coming from, but there are always ways to improve. Functionality is great, but ease of use is just as important and it sounds like you want people to use the app. Best advice I can give you is to try your competitor's apps and see some of the features they did right and then improve upon them.

- allow app profiles such as (auto based on connection, Best, Good, Medium, low) that adjust the quality/internet/fps settings on the app that poll more or less. So if I have the best option selected, it automatically will have the best quality and highest accuracy for my analog sticks with the most polling and best connection, which would be ideal for fast internet and a high end device.

- REPL4Y has PIP mode (super useful), button rumble, and voice chat and doesn't require PSN login

- give ability to adjust deadzones based on controller profiles. If you can figure out an algorithm that automatically calculates deadzones based on turning the analog sticks that would be awesome. Panda keymapper has this.

- enhance controller control further by with, for example HOLD L1 + HOLD R1 Is different hotkeys than L1 + R1

- enhance on screen buttons by not requiring them to always be on. Maybe add options such as "turn off when gamepad connected) or an arrow that only shows up when the screen is touched, and then this arrow turns on the buttons.

- enhance analog stick with replicating turn acceleration as well as ADS acceleration

- update the interface: make a material icon and material resources. Align it with material design in whole. On-screen buttons are often stretched. Make setting them up easier.

- link the profiles to Google play so different devices don't suffer. At the very least allow cloud import/export

- add a new start screen that runs through all the options for first use and make them pretty

- include or add anything that makes it run smoother, quicker, more fps, better quality, less artifacts

- Some of the settings are a little confusing so maybe adding a beginner vs advanced toggle and be more specific on some of the options.

Thanks for your feedback. I will answer all of them explicitly. Sure it's worth to mention other apps and I even know some of them. I share information with the developer of Chiaki. He helped me once and since then we share information if we found something out. The developer of Chiaki is pretty awesome he has my total respect by the way. I'm playing around with the PS4 protocol for more than two years now, I developed PSJoy a workaround Remote Play client (requires a PC) and finally I was able to implement PSPlay. Of course I know PSPlay is not perfect, an app is never really finished or perfect. There is always room for improvements, and that is what I will do. If someone like other apps better that's okay, I'm not saying that other apps are not good :)

"- allow app profiles..."
Well not sure if I have understood correctly, in regard to auto adjust the bitrate while streaming this will be implemented soon. If you leave bitrate at auto it will be set according to your resolution. Fps chan't be changed during the stream as far as I know, only bitrate and that has to be implemented. Since the last update gamepad handling should be improved and button mapping should work better.

"- REPL4Y has PIP mode (super useful), button rumble, and voice chat and doesn't require PSN login"
Pip is planned, but as there some features which has to be implemented first. Rumble and voice chat as well. Voice chat will be more effort and I don't know when it will be ready, but of course also planned. In regard to the login, well that's not possible that way because PSPlay is a standalone application which doesn't need to register or sign in to a 3rd Party server like Repl4y. The server of Repl4y is performing the PSN login request automatically for you in the background and all it needs is your PSN-ID. Since PS4 firmware 7.0 the account id is required for the registration process. This account id can only be queried by performing an OAuth request. You are not really performing a login what you see in PSPlay, it's only requesting your account id. So if you have already performed a registration on another device you can view your account id and enter it manually. Well, I know it's not ideal but in return no need to register and sign in to a 3rd Party server.

"- give ability to adjust deadzones.."
Deadzone detection was improved in the last update and should work better now. Manually adjusting the deadzone would be possible too but is not yet implemented. It should not be needed anymore to adjust it manually but of course having that option would not hurt.

"- enhance controller control further by with, for example HOLD L1 + HOLD R1 Is different hotkeys than L1 + R1"
Sure adding more options will always be possible but at some point you can always over engineer a feature, making that would probably lead to a lot of false button presses. I think with the current mapping functionality most of the users should be satisfied. Not saying that I will not enhance the current mapping options but there are a lot of todos with higher priority for me at the moment.

"- enhance on screen buttons by not requiring them to always be on. "
At the moment the buttons will disappear after 10 seconds and will only show up again when you touch the screen. You can enable that the buttons should not disappear but I could add an option that they should not be shown at all of course :)

"- enhance analog stick with replicating turn acceleration as well as ADS acceleration"
Not sure if I have understood that correctly, could you please explain that in more details?

"- update the interface: make a material icon and material resources. Align it with material design in whole. On-screen buttons are often stretched. Make setting them up easier."
In general PSPlay tried to follow the material guidelines from Google and uses material design icons. Of course not everywhere all gamepad button interfaces are made by myself but I'm not a designer please have mercy on me :D In regard to the stretched buttons, which button exactly? No button should look stretched, they should always keep there aspect ratio. If not then this is clearly unintentional. You said "make setting them up" easier, are you referring to the customization feature? Even though I'm not a designer I spent a ridiculous amount of making all these buttons in GIMP, so I will try my best to improve them at a later point.

"- link the profiles to Google play so different devices don't suffer. At the very least allow cloud import/export"
Thought of an import/ export feature, will also be implemented at a later point. Google account would be possible but I do not want to upload the PS4 registration info to somewhere else because of security reasons but at least the gamepad mapping and customization features should be possible.

"- add a new start screen that runs through all the options for first use and make them pretty"
Well, the only thing you can do when you first start the app you can click register. It's always hard to make a screen look tidy and not cluttered but make all information visible at once. I tried to make it as easy as possible but there is room for improvements I agree.

"- include or add anything that makes it run smoother, quicker, more fps, better quality, less artifacts"
That sounds a little bit trivial, a lot of time during the implementation was spent to guarantee a smooth streaming experience but there are so much factors which can influence these experience that's really ridiculous believe me. Sometimes it's a ****ty decoder sometimes even a bug on a specific Android device which requires a different logic etc. At the moment PSPlay uses FEC (forward error correction) to recover some lost frames but of course Software can't magically fix everything on a ****ty connection. I have tested PSPlay on at least 12 different devices some of them I bought for testing reasons only. More FPS than 60 is not possible because the PS4 is limited to 60FPS, higher bitrate values will be possible and I will enhance that in the future. A smooth streaming experience one of the major things and I will of course always try to enhance that :)

"- Some of the settings are a little confusing so maybe adding a beginner vs advanced toggle and be more specific on some of the options"
Agree, I tried at least to add a little explanation on most of the settings but of course some of them are still confusing and there is definitely room for improvement.

Thanks anyway for your detailed feedback, I really appreciate that. Like I said most of the features I will implement soon or are at least planned. All I can say is that I will constantly try to improve PSPlay (like all of my other apps). I really like such projects and I appreciate all your support. Thank you.

None of my feedback is criticism as you've taken a large project and done a great job with it.

Keep it up.

OP project is dead. Long dead. Official Sony remote play now works on all Android, 3rd party releases also available such as PSPlay, PStreamer, and REPL4Y, most 3rd party options are not play store
What one do you suggest to use over mobile data?

The Sony app will only connect with a controller if using Android 10, plus it will not work with 3rd party controllers such as the tablet holding Pega Bluetooth devices that can hold my 10 inch Samsung tablet ,where as this app will work on Android 5 and upwards, and with most Bluetooth controllers .... So definitely not dead in the water, plus fairly frequent updates.....

I think he was referring to the modded original apk project of this thread not PSPlay. The modded original apk is dead and now there are other 3rd party solutions like PSPlay, Repl4y, Pstreamer without the stupid limitations of Sony. Currently working on the next update of PSPlay which includes bug fixes, mapping improvements, PIP, Multi-Window mode and UPnP.

Brilliant, any estimate on the release date.

Can't say anything yet, still a lot to do. Have to fix one device specific bug and I'm still looking for a test device. Other than that I'm still working on other improvements. Almost forgot, new PSPlay update will also include rtt and mtu detection which should detect network capabilities. This should be helpful when playing over the internet. I will post it here when the new update is ready.
