I reached out to Asus Support via email regarding the power issues I've had since updating to 4.4.2, and they actually responded. They are apparently investigating the power issues and looking to have a fix in the next firmware. I have asked when they expect to release the next firmware, and will let folks know what I hear back.
Thanks for letting us know. Good to see they are looking into it. Let's hope the have a solution soon.

So, what happened to this thread? It seems to have died just when a solution might have turned up!

I spent a couple of useless "chat" sessions talking to the Netflix people, basically pointing fingers at ASUS. [Interesting aside: the 2nd level tech apparently told the 1st level tech that: Of course it uses so much battery, because we have such a large inventory of movies! The Transformer just isn't powerfull enough to deal with that!]

So, then I spent a couple of phone sessions with ASUS. In contrast to the message above, they claim they've never heard of this issue. They'd suggested 2 methods:

* uninstall Netflix, reboot, reinstall Netflix. No change
* factory reset, reinstall everything. No change.

So, they've given me an RMA to send it in and they'll try to figure it out. Kinda reluctant, since the silence here suggests that *somebody* has found a fix or workaround (other than rooting).

The only solution, as far as I'm aware, was to restart the tablet after using Netflix as that seemed to be the only thing that eliminated the battery drain. That's what I've been doing and it has worked fine.

i don`T think there is a fix.

just they gave up like everyone else on this device.

Anyway nearing end of life and still no 4.4.2 for some countries.

Good for media streaming when it works. so i guess it wasn`t a full $600 wasted

Is there a changelog for what's in this update?

**EDIT** Found it... and by the looks of things there might be a fix in there of some kind, that could address the battery drain..

Improved Item:
1.Google mobile service upgrade
2.Improve Power consumption when using Wi-Fi
3.Fix IME issue
4.Improve Camera stability
5.Other bug fixes

It's nice to see that the TF701 isn't completely forgotten by ASUS (yet). Too bad there is no way to root 4.4 without unlocking bootloader.

I really hope we will get 5.0!

Hmmm.. for you perhaps but it wasn't the only cause of the excessive battery drain people have been reporting.

I used Tasker to turn WiFi of during quiet hours/overnight, and on occasion would still experience crazy battery drain.

With this update I've got a big battery drain. Before this update, I get about 30 hours between dock and tablet, with 5 hours of screen. Now, I got only 20 hours with the same use of screen and apps.

How can I make a wipe cache?

Thanks in advance.

Technojo, I don't use the stock Asus keyboard with my 701. I use AI Type Tablet Keyboard which I've found to be excellent. The only issue is that you need to switch to the Asus keyboard when you use the dock so the virtual keyboard doesn't pop up.
I'm using AI. I had a message pop up with the option of switching to the ASUS keyboard when docked. It came up every time until I ticked the box not to. Works well. Try reinstalling AI and see if you get that popup, or maybe go through the settings on both ASUS keyboard and the AI one too.

EDIT - Sorry I'm using AI type keyboard plus, not AI tablet keyboard

For those of you rooted and unlocked or on a custom rom I have updated my bootloader updater and latest stock roms here :)

Based off the latest Asus 11.4.1.27 firmware - minor tweaks but dead stock rooted otherwise. It's quick and I can't find any major bugs (other than what I fixed). Although the Asus Browser Bookmark Sync has been removed and I can't find a way of getting the old one to work :(.

Enjoy! :)

A few days ago I found my tablet's battery completely drained. I hadn't used it in 3 days, so I just thought that the battery was low to begin with. I charged it overnight and the next morning all was well. After I came back in the evening my battery was almost completely drained again!

I read that loads of people have been having this issue for a while now but it happened to me without me doing anything at all to the tablet, save for leaving it unattended for 3 days (did it get mad at me? :D). I did a factory reset earlier today and it was alright for a while (<1%/hour drain) and I went ahead and decided to update all the preloaded apps on it. I also disabled Zinio, Press Reader and some other apps I do not use (Google Music as well). I installed Dropbox and Barcode Scanner. No other apps from all others I had, even left the stock launcher. Now the drain is back again. It seems that the moment I start doing anything at all with the tablet the processor starts acting out.

In the battery stats it says that the screen has been on for only 25 minutes (which it was) but the Android OS process has CPU total : 1h 28m and Keep awake at 2h. Obviously, Android isn't letting the processor sleep and it's draining my battery a lot. Is it some of the ASUS apps going haywire? I really can't find a solution to this, as I said I did a factory reset, I can't of anything more drastic than that! It just happened on its own, I don't even know where to start...

Someone in another thread just gave me this idea: Uninstall the updates for all Google apps (and turn off automatic updates naturally). Do you still have the drain?
