Just wanted to post my own positive results and add to the success stories of this post. After reading through all of what people had been posting here, I still wasn't completely convinced, but I decided that spending what ended up being 8 bucks was an acceptable risk, especially considering how poor my battery life had become. As a bit of background, I was at the point where if I basically didn't use my phone at all during the day, I would still be down to around 40% or under by the evening, and by didn't use I mean under 30 minutes of SOT with no major background drains occurring. I got my replacement battery from an Amazon vendor who had reliable reviews, and it arrived around 2 weeks later, approx. 3 days ago. I've now had a chance to run it through a couple power cycles, and the difference is honestly unbelievable. I can say with great confidence I've seen around a 30% increase in my battery life, easily getting me through the day with decent use. I can only conclude that my original battery really had lost quite a significant amount of its capacity over the year and ten months that I had owned it, which I believe was at least significantly contributed by my use of qi charging while driving. I noticed early on how hot the charger and the phone would get, particularly with both music and navigation active, to the point where during the summer I generally acknowledged that it would shut off charging to cool down within a short time. Given how high temperatures can negatively affect battery longevity, I've decided to avoid using the qi charger in the car with this new battery. As an aside, with battery life no longer being a constant concern, I find myself enjoying the N5 much more than I was, and I no longer have any desire to upgrade! Thanks to OP and to everyone else on this thread that contributed success stories and convinced me to give it a shot!

I would say that I don't take care of my battery and yet it works ok for second year. Even the same as new battery :)

My phone has different story to tell. I own it since november 2013 and I play a lot of Ingress. This is a game which drains your battery within couple of hours. My battery very often drops to <20% before I put it on charger. I charge my phone twice a day - overnight and in the middle of the day. I carry powerbank all the time so sometimes I charge phone just to keep it close to 100%. When I take break from Ingress my phone lasts all day long and really cannot complain. So far I didn't notice any battery degradation, especialy not that >significant< as some mentions. My average batt consumption when playing Ingress over night is mostly 35-40%/h. On sunny days it raises to 50+%/h with autobrightness.

My sot when not playing Ingress hasn't changed much since I settle on same and familiar setup. My usage is always the same, litterly, same apps, same setup. Only app versions have changed.
- First 20% of battery I achieve 1-1:20min sot. Same is on LP and KK. Actualy, I have constant pattern day after day: 100-80% = min 1h sot, 100-60% = min 2h sot. 100-50% = i expect min 2:30h sot. And that is my battery routine every working day :)
- last 20% is fine. When idle and powersave active it holds quite good in standby with LTE (very good signal) - battery holds charge good!
- I use stock charger with stock cable. Often I use wireless charger at work.
- I often play Ingress/games and charge via powerbank - that produces some heat, especially now at summer.

Few weeks ago I've ordered new battery from ReplaceBase Ltd. First battery was faulty. Second one too. Third was working ok! I put it on test of daily usage pattern and - it was performing exactly the same as old battery.

I didn't expect any boost, I just wanted to see is there any change. I'm glad my battery is still good after so much torture :) Will keep using it till it dies, and I'll put new one to drawer.

I think I broke something when I replaced my battery...

So, I bought a replacement battery for my Nexus 5 off of eBay a couple of weeks ago, and it seemed to install fairly easily. Unfortunately, I think I did something to the antennas, because my phone can't resolve a T-Mobile connection anymore.

I checked the 4 antenna connections that I know about (i.e. the white and black cables running along the sides of the battery). In case it was a software thing, I also reset my APNs to default and even did a factory reset for good measure, but my T-mo SIM won't work anymore. The odd thing is that my spare AT&T GoPhone SIM seems to work fine (I get solid LTE signal), so the issue is specific to T-Mobile service.

Has anyone ever seen this? If so, is there a fix (hardware or software)? The basic explanations that make sense to me are:

1. Hardware is damaged, but AT&T signal penetrates better than T-Mo or whatever I broke affected T-Mo bands more than AT&T LTE bands; if this is the case, could I replace the broken hardware (perhaps the flex cable)?
2. There is a goofy, non-obvious software setting somewhere that I need to find; maybe I need to create new APNs from scratch?

Any advice?

Have you tried a spare T-mobile SIM card? It sounds like it would be more likely that at some point in the procedure you damaged your t-mobile sim card, rather than that you somehow damaged the antenna in such a way that it no longer picks up t-mobile signal but still works with ATT. Maybe head over to your local T-mobile store and try popping in a sim card there.

I had the same thought, so I popped my wife's T-Mo SIM card into my phone, it didn't work either (though her card was a nano SIM, so it was in an adapter tray, if that possibly affected things). Also, my T-Mo SIM is currently being used in a Moto E and it seems to work without issue, which leads me to believe that the problem is with my N5 while using T-Mo.

As this point, I'm considering ordering a replacement back cover and/or a replacement flex cable in hopes that they might help, but I'm not sure that it's worth $40-50 to possibly fix it. Then again, I'm not sure I want to use the Moto E as my daily driver until November, or whenever the new LG Nexus comes out (not to hate on the Moto E too much, it's actually a decent/great phone for $99, it's just a little laggy compared to the N5).

I bought a replacement battery from ebay, watched all the battery replacement videos on Youtube and had a bit of a struggle pulling out the old battery from the casing.

Bad news is, the new battery didn't work, I can't turn the phone on and there are no charging indicator when I plugged in the charger. Even worse news is putting back the original battery didn't help, can't turn on and no charging indication as well..

Check all connections and all seems ok, anybody encountered this problem before? Any advice on where did I screwed up would be helpful, thanks!

I updated to Android 6 last weekend and have to say my mind is blown in terms of difference in battery usage.

My usage profile is "heavy" surfing, redditing, etc in the morning during my commute. No direct usage at all during the day, and again heavy usage in the evening commuting home.

During the day my usage however does include my phone and G Watch R communicating in an office that's right under high voltage power distribution network. With several area's in the office having faraday cages built into the walls.

Over the last few months, my phone would be dead before I got home at 6, while having been 100% at 7am.

Now the first week with Android 6, I'm looking at going almost 2 days on a single charge.

After reading about the Nexus 5X and having a feeling it's barely more powerful or useful then the real Nexus 5, I also ordered a new 3200mAh battery to gear up to use my Nexus 5 for a couple years more.
It's still plenty fast, other then a fingerprint sensor, it's still up to date with all the other sensors and well, the Nexus 5 is damn sturdy. Mine has landed in the toilet a total of 5 times so far and after disassembly and careful drying, it's still a perfect little trooper.

Now I hope the same kind of software magic happens for my G Watch R, because going more then a day with a charge on a watch would be quite welcome.

After updating to 6.0 i'm getting 3,5 SOT which is really good, compared to Lollipop's 2,5-3h. Doze works great too, all-night deep sleep results in 1-2% battery usage. No wifi drain, no issues.

I do not recommend any other replacements on the battery unless its directly from the manufacturer but just a question have you tried doing everything to stop the wakelocks?

Which battery did you use specifically. Do you have a link for it? Any screen shots of the battery usage? I'm going to do this mod soon.

Bought a replacement battery from replacebase.co.uk, seems to be a legit OEM battery.

The difference it made was quite dramatic since the battery that was originally in the device had swollen up and was giving me like 1 hour screen on time. But now I'm back up to like 3.5 hours SOT, worth doing for about 10quid

Nope the one received is not OEM, but could be! confused i am!

I highly doubt they sell original batteries. I got 3 batteries from them because first 2 were not working. Third one works fine, but this is why I think they are not genuine batteries:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62033958

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62043132

On the other hand, I ordered battery for Nexus 4 and after 1 month it inflated and almost broke LCD screen (LCD has popped out of case due to inflated battery). This battery hasn't worked fine since I instaled it. Phone dies at 10/20%, later it started to die after every reboot.

I bought new batteries for N4 and N5 at spareslg.com. N4 works fine and phone shuts down at 1% like it should. I should get N5 battery in several days.

@dakore

i cant seem to see your photo it gives me a 404, but here are my batteries: one on the left is the orginal battery (which expanded/swelled up) and the new on right hand side (hopefully you can see the pictures):

http://i.imgur.com/2uO7SGB.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/bBrRD0Q.jpg

I can't comment on the sizes since the original battery is bad and expanded like i said before.

its not uncommon for phone companys to have the same battery but with a differant part number, because of things like supplier changes (which i would guess from one of the batterys being made by sony and the other samsung)

but theres three things i can definitely say about this battery i've got and that are:

1. 100% noticable improvement in battery life
2. Battery fits
3. for the price if it does expand/swell up/goes bad i don't mind spending another 10quid on another battery

---------------

EDIT: just scanned the QR codes on the batteries heres my findings:

The original on the left shows on the label
P/N: EAC 62079101 SLB
Date: 2013.10.15

The QR Code reads: EAC 62079101 ST 131015
Which translates to:
P/N: EAC 62079101
Date: 2013.10.15

The new battery on the right shows on the label:
P/N: EHJ 62078701 LLL
Date: 2015.03.18

The QR Code reads: EAC 62078701 LT 130917
Which translates two:
P/N: EAC 6207870
Date: 2013.09.17

So you might actually be on to something with the batterys not being 100% legit! But atm im happy to use it since it has improved my battery life. Might have to look into ordering from spareslg.com in future tho!

---------------

EDIT 2: Just pulled the specs from the Samsung TSDI website for the cell using info from the dot printed side and ignoring the LG label

Link to where i found the info (http://www.samsungsdi.com/lithium-ion-battery/mobile-phone) but there is a message at the bottem of the table saying: "Cells with specification different from the above products can be provided upon customer’s request."

Yeah I don't know if its legit or not but the info is there and people can take it and interpret it! Once again im happy since i've gotten better battery life!

Thanks for quite a lot information! I didn't go so deep.

I can confirm my original battery looks like yours, and replacement one(s) have LG dotmatrix marking on the back instead Samsung. The rest is the same.

I think I already wrote it somewhere here - I haven't seen such battery improvement after replacement. It has nothing to do with wakelocks, I tested it in depth. It lasts and behave just like my older 2 years tortured battery (you're talking with an Ingress player :D ).

My battery from spareslg is on its way and I could write few words in 2-3 days when it arrives. Cheers!

Hi everybody,
Just a query here ! can nexus 5x 2700mah battery make it with nexus 5 ?
Thanks & Regards,
Prashanth
Well, if you're trying to say "can a the nexus 5x battery fit into a nexus 5?", this is very unlikely to happen, they have completely diffrent form factor.

---------- Post added at 11:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:38 PM ----------

So where can i order an OEM battery for my nexus 5?
Depends on where you live. I bought my replacement on eBay, but you can find it on Amazon.

I have a question for you guys: how do you know if a battery is a genuine OEM or just an "unofficial" replacement? Mine seems pretty good, indistinguishable from the original i pulled off. There is a date on the back that says it was produced in July 2015. Is this possible? The device was retired before july...
