replace the boot screen (aka boot logo)? It depends on what moto you have, and is the bootloader unlocked or not. But I think it would be off topic for this thread.

My moto Model is XT1055 (U.S. Cellular).

This thread for the boot animation works (if you are rooted), there is a thread for the Clogo.bmp (if you are unlocked), and one for the logo.bin (if you have unlocked or relocked).

EDIT: Sorry, typo.. Clogo.bin is for LOCKED bootloader, not unlocked as originally typed.

Can anybody help me with this?

My Moto X does not seem to have Motorola Boot Services installed, and to make matters worse I get a 'Your device is not compatible' message when I go to the Google Play link.
I tried downloading the APK found in this thread, and it's giving me the 'error parsing the package' message.

What could be wrong here? I know I can probably change my boot logo / animation with other software, but I wanted to give the official one a try first.

I'm running Android 4.2.2, the variants are in the attached screenshot.
I rooted using RockMyMoto and MotoWpNoMo.

The key is to zip up the files (01_intro.mp4,02_loop.mp4,videodesc.txt) with no compression. With 7zip this compression level is called "store".
