Was looking at a newly built verizon note 3, it came with the update out if the box, vs my launch day device. The camera sensor on the new device is smaller.... It is also a red/purple color vs the older device has a blue/green sensor and the eye is much bigger.

Should have taken comparison pictures... but has no way to do it side by side at the time.

Interesting. Wonder the differences here.

Found different camera sensors on two different Verizon note 3s. One had a much bigger "eye".

Remove the battery and you can check the build date on the back label, will show the month and year, such as 13.11 or 11.13 for Nov 2013.

The kernel has nothing to do if there is a different hardware used or changed during manufacturing. The Kernel is part of the software firmware.
Yeah I realize the kernel is software associated. Just curious if what the op is saying is a fact then I wondered if the kernel date was different. But yeah your right.

Between the 2. The color was slightly different. The red sensor produced very bright whites. Where the larger blue sensor produced more real world whites, if that makes sense. Other than that I'm not sure about a difference in quality.

Usually, a larger sensor will produce better low light images.

I wonder if the new one has the distortion that the old one has around the edges. I seem to get pictures that the top right or left is slightly distorted, makes for weird face pics

Interesting. Maybe they have had both the whole time. I have the red sensor in this new one. There is a difference in color next to one another. But I am not sure about low light, which is where the bigger sensor w I up benefit. I'll take some pictures if I can get both again and post em.

My wife and I have two Note 3 from Verizon and have different sensors.

---------- Post added at 10:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:11 AM ----------

Her sensor is green and larger with built date early Oct. My sensor is blue and smaller with build date late Nov.

Anyone know the difference? We are selling one but dont know which one to keep.

Ok after some test ****s I have determined the larger green sensor is WAY better than the smaller blue sensor. More saturated and lifelike colors under day light. The difference in low light is huge.

Anyone else have experience with different sensors? I cant believe Samsung can get away with this. They got great reviews with the camera but they turn around and ship with worse hardware than early shipments? Thats a very misleading and dishinest imo

It is not uncommon for manufacturers to use different parts with comparable specs. That is why almost all packaging now says subject to change. 95 percent of the people would not notice the difference. I have seen the same cell phones come with three different capacity battery's in the same model.

Look at game console where the parts change almost constantly and nobody cares really.

Anyways it is really hard to compare pictures unless the camera has a full manual mode. You can get an idea of one being good quality and another not. Biggest difference is what TYPE and size of the sensor and lens.

Would be nice to see some direct comparison shot if anyone has both models though.
