Another feature I noticed while checking something camera related is that I can take a pic using either one of the volume up or down buttons. Also able to take burst shots if I hold down either of the volume buttons.
I never noticed that before on my previous phones so maybe that feature was there before, but its cool since now I can really hold the phone more stable and take a shot(s).

Substratum with the paid samsung addon works with the paid swift dark and black themes. Got Maps, YouTube, gmail, Instagram, Google Play, Chrome themed successfully. Not sure what else it can do I gotta play. I also was able to use "status bar icons for samsung" free app from the playstore to change the nav bar icons but I'm in love with the stock nav bar black all the time. I reverted.

Not rooted
Does this allow you change the background color of the built in email app at the moment it's a glaring white.

Florida unfortunately.
I like it a lot but in my opinion the curve screen does not improve anything and is unnecessary, it just looks good. Typing on it takes getting used to. The q & p keys are on the edge and it's a little weird to press them and long press them.

The phone was super hard to handle with one hand without the Samsung military grade rugged case. It's a long phone. With the case it's thicker and more manageable. Having the case on it also makes it harder to touch the edge of the screen by accident when using one hand.

Really not a fan of the curve screen as you can see lol. But other than that the phone is perfect.

I wish they had an option to disable the edges or something.

You planning on getting it?

I agree with your curved screen comment fully. I also wish the phone was alittle wider. But thats nit picking by me.

Can you change the stock email program to show more than 2 lines of messages ? I think they removed this option?

I am getting an error when I try to install the overlay on the stock email client. It worked for Gmail though. I think substratum is going to work much better once Oreo drops because Oreo supports theming engines like substratum out the box, unless Samsung goes out of their way to block it...

Just got the note 8 yesterday and been messing around with it. I'm coming from the Note4 with Note7 software. I think I have a pretty decent setup. I'm taking advantage of the always on screen. I use it like a lock screen. So I disabled the lock screen. I long-press the home screen to unlock the phone its pretty awesome. Or double tap the notifications to go directly to them, without swiping again.

I wanted to create this discussion so ppl can share their shortcuts and little efficiencies so everybody can enjoy them.

Update: So I lied I assumed there would be notifications on the AOD screen with the lockscreen off but unfortunately there are no more notifications on AOD without the lock screen :( that's silly

Update, Update: there is a setting in the display>navigation bar settings that bypasses the lock screen on a long press!!!
So I thought this was a great idea that you could double tap the icons on the always on display and it go directly to the app. I thought it was very stupid however that if you double tap an icon it goes to the swipe lock screen which you then have to swipe to get into the app. If you disable the lock screen you loose the icon notifications on the aod.
I wanted to bypass this but still have the apps on the aod screen, so I set my lock screen to swipe and configured Tasker to swipe for me once the screen turns on and used a variable set so it only swiped once when the screen initially turned on. I had it set for half a second and I thought this was working great for the last week or so.
On my Note 5, I used to have Tasker disable the keyguard when I was in my car so I would not have to swipe to get into my phone.
Somehow today, I accidentally turned the keyguard off while I was in my car. I noticed that I no longer have the swipe to unlock screen but I do still have the icons on the aod screen. So now when I double tap from the aod screen icon, it goes directly to that app.
I know I got lucky by doing this, but I think it is the best of both worlds. I turned off Tasker so it will no longer touch the keyguard setting on my phone and hopefully my phone will stay like this.

I hope this helps someone else.

UPDATE - I woke up this morning and keyguard was on again. So I added jeygaurd to a task that runs every morning when I unplug my phone.

swipe down from statusbar with one finger for notifications.
Swipe down from statusbar with two fingers to show all notification shade shortcuts.

You can also set up your fingerprint sensor to drop the notification shade. Gesture activated in settings.

If you're in a meeting and your screen-off memo turns off, you can press the spen button within hover/air view range to turn the screen-off memo back on. Or press and hold the spen button and tap the screen. Very useful for me.

Lmao guys everybody is complaining about the bixby button. If you actually go into bixby and in the settings you can turn off bixby. The button will do nothing after that [emoji4]
