This is new to me, turn off the battery optimized for apps: com.samsung.android.biometric

The fingerprint scan is so quick, the screen makes the change, the fingerprint animation hasn't finished. Try it!

Placebo or not???!!

Please can you explain to me the way to turn off battery optimization for "com.samsung.android.biometric"...? Thanks for your help guys

Please don’t flame be but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with fingerprint sensor at factory default settings.
I have the factory fitted film screen protector and it recognises my fingerprint 100% of the time

Not disputing the change will speed up fingerprint unlock but I am also 100% sure it will negatively impact battery life

I found that by not meddling with power management my Note 10+ (Pie) runs better and uses less battery. Only fast charging is toggled on.
All 3rd party power management apps including Device Care are package blocked.
In Stand by apps, all show in the active state.
My nominal idle current runs between 70-200 ma with screen brightness at 30-40%
No app has been killed notifications or bt cutouts.
Low power usage when sleeping with AOD active.

Works perfectly for me, twice as fast now.

Yes, yes do turn that crap off...
In Samsung Device Manager* only toggle the power setting you want.
On the drop down menu only toggle fast charging.
In Developer Options>Standby Apps all buckets should read as active.

With the 10+ running on Pie it runs better and gets better battery life set up like this. Try it.
I'm also package blocking about 60 packages including Device Manager after doing the above setup.
Any 3rd party power management tend to screw Android all up... it does very nicely by itself after some trash apk pruning.

*At first it seems to help but it creates conflicts that eat battery at least on my version(s).

Testing on S20 Ultra and this seems pure placebo. Toggling it off and testing and then back on and testing and like that a few times I do not see any difference in speed to unlock. Biggest difference for me has always been just how dry (or not) is your finger. If your skin is really dry, expect a lot of misses or delays. I'm using the Snapdragon variant of the phone.

Edit: Definitely placebo. Did a blind test, where I didn't know whether the app was optimised or not and tested the sensor and many times when it was off I thought it was on and vice versa. This makes no difference.
Maybe not for s20, but my note 10+ definitely notice the difference. Less error too.

Testing it for the second day. We'll, the finger unlock is now usable... I'm completely surprised such a small thing can make such a great difference. So looks like when app is automatically put to sleep the delay we're seeing is because Android need to wake up the unlock process. And this is a very expensive operation that contributes to the felay. I bet a sensor burnout is a complete bs though. Also if you notice most of the critical system applications are excluded from better optimizations... But not the fingerprint unlock. What could that mean? Either it's draining the battery (did not notice the drain yet), OR some engineers in Samsung have their hands growing from a wrong place.

Again, thanks for a great tip.

"com.samsung.android.biometric" doesn't show up in my apps list under settings . I'm using the SM-N975F/DS, which is Exynos version. Does anyone have Exynos based Note 10 who is able to change this setting?

OK, found it under "special access" , I have to search for "Optimize battery usage" in the settings search bar and then filter for All apps, then look for "com.samsung.android.biometric" and turn off battery optimization. Tried this setting, and I only notice a very slight improvement in unlocking speed. So maybe this doesn't benefit Exynos devices as much. Would like to hear others' experiences.
