As per my experience, my DEFY is now more responsive and faster compared to earlier built. Battery backup has also improved.

when I bought my Defy last month, It came with this version only.

So I can say, this is pretty stable, responsive and battery life is good too.

What exactly you mean by unstable? Did you formatted data/cache partition? If not, try that.
