Has anyone been able to improve the performance of the mic? Nobody can ever hear me unless I take the mic and place it 2 inches from my mouth.
Which mic? the internal or an external?
I assume you mention an external otherwise you could not take it.
Note that connecting an external mic requires your to push it really hard in the connection untill your hear a very audible "clic"

It's a Joying JY-HQS01N4G-2, so there is no internal. The mic works, so I am sure the plug is seated all the way. It's just that everyone I call says I "sound terrible" or they can barely hear me. I've tried the mic in various spots but the only thing that seems to work is to pull the wire out till it's in front of my mouth.

I would, if not already done, first install the latest firmware for your device:

If it is not better after that, I can only advise you to use another microphone. I have tried several, I can personally recommend the Sony XA-MC10.

So how did you root it?
I've had this unit since Jan 2021 and I've not bothered to root it until I recently needed to do something that needed root.

If you go on 4pda and find the thread called "Unisoc head units on the UIS7862 (UMS512) / SC9863a (UIS8581A) processor - FYT platform" and search for a post from user "gordgelin" with the attachment "Universal_ROOT_7862_9863_8141_9853_new (1).zip".

Extract that file to a USB, put the USB into the unit (while it's on), wait for the green text letting you know you can remove the USB, remove the USB and wait for it to reboot. Once booted, install Magisk (included in the zip)

I've looked through this whole thread but couldn't find anything. I've had my Joying UIS7862 head unit for about a year now. This is model JY-TQ160N4G designed for Toyota Corolla (2017-2019) or Toyota Tacoma.

It's been performing really well and I've dialed it down to what is a perfect set up for me. I use a third party launcher (Agama) that I set as default using the Nova 7 method.

But this past month, it just started to reset to the default Joying launcher. No matter how many times I change it back, it keeps on forgetting Agama.

Was there an OTA update that made this happen? I've tried setting it in Factory settings but there is no option for anything other than the Joying default. Has any body started having this problem lately too? Does anyone have a solution? Thanks!

@eatabagel @Harlley Sathler disable/uninstall digital wellbeing

Thanks for this. I just tried it and I'm crossing my fingers it works.

It's so odd that it just started happening out of the blue after months of being flawless. And also, it's so weird that it's tied to Digital Wellbeing. Like what is the connection even?

Our Joying units are so mysterious...

I will be installing an aftermarket backup camera with my Joying Android 10 HU. (The HU is already installed and works fine.) There are two RCA video inputs - one hanging off the harness wiring, and one Video In on the HU itself.

I understand that the typical camera install will wire power to the backup light and use reverse trigger wire causing HU to switch to camera view when in reverse.

If I connect camera power to ACC power, so that camera is always powered on - is it possible to use both functions where Joying HU auto switches to camera view when car is in reverse (using reverse trigger wire) *and* user can manually switch to backup camera anytime (not in reverse) to see live rearview? Or can only one of these scenarios be implemented? Thanks.

After recently installing a new UIS7862 in wife's car, I'm thinking about updating my Joying Intel Sofia to one of these.

Problem I have is my old Range Rover install has the 7" screen fitted in the dash, and a 100cm long ribbon to the single din head unit mounted under the passenger seat. There was no room for the head unit in the dash !! I don't really want to go through changing the screen if I can avoid it.

So my question is whether the 40pin ribbon cable is the same on these new Joying head units to the old Intel Sofia ? That way I can simply replace the head unit.

Quel file non è più disponibile, potresti postare quello che hai scaricato, se lo conservi?

Mod translation: That file is no longer available, could you post what you downloaded, if you keep it?

2- The fonts seem to be quite small in navigation apps. I guess there is no way to change it without rooting?
Since Android 8.1 (or so), you do not need to change DPI via root. Go to settings -> Display -> Advanced -> character size

Except there is no such setting in Joying unit
In that case you might take a look at @mariodantas' "Android shortcut settings". Linked at the bottom in this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...unisoc-ums512-q-a-mods-tips-firmware.4396339/

With Joying UQ128N4G I am having another annoying problem. This is a unit without physical button. I have button lights on time based setting. Because otherwise they are always on as car turns on dash illumination always. Nowadays the problem is that it is too dark in the evenings to see the buttons.

In my previous Ownice C500 unit, the button lights could dim with the dash dimmer. I guess this is not possible with these units?
    No. not possible.
I also had problem where Google maps said the compass accuracy is low and I should rotate the unit. Obviously this is not possible. Do others have this problem?
Please check your GPS cable, the connection to the unit and the position of the end "box". It should have a clear view on the sky. Below the dashboard is not a problem, below lots of metal you will have a bad reception.

EDIT: XDA didn't like me attaching the photos, just got broken links so I'm sorry that they're embedded like this.

Joying just sent me a review unit of their new 10.1" Android 10 head unit so I figured it should have its own thread. It looks like they're pumping out updated versions of all their previous devices by the day so I imagine they'll have versions of this in all the different screen sizes soon. First impression is good. The interface is appreciably more responsive than the Intel unit I currently have in the car. I'm working on some videos but figured I'd throw some pictures in here. Here is an unboxing and interface tour video: https://youtu.be/h__Zc0fwOtw

The PCB looks is clearly iterative but looks to have some significant redesigns, especially with the power supply which is much larger than on the previous Intel design, through that might be required for extra derived voltages for the new UIS7862 SoC.

The previous Intel PCB used an STM32 MCU in between the main SoC and the bluetooth module which probably contributed to the difficulty interfacing Bluetooth devices that weren't specifically allowed by Joying. The area where this chip was now looks to be filled with power components though the same Bluetooth module is still used. I'm hopeful that this means there's direct communication from the SoC to the BT module, but that'll take more digging to determine. There is also a new general purpose ARM Cortex-M4 MCU added between the SoC carrier board and the DSP chip (GigaDevice GD32F330R8T6). I'm curious if that's taken the place of the old STM32 chip or if it's used for something else. Hopefully I'll be able to determine what it's used for, but I'm not touching anything until I get it installed and reviewed.

The green PCB is the Intel board and the yellowish one is the new Android 10 board. Of note is the fact that the new PCB has Joying's name silk screened onto it where the old Intel one didn't. So, at bare minimum, this board is spun just for Joying, even if the only differences are the silk screen layers.

    Any requests for specific details?

For those who were discussing the extension cable or mounting the screen away from the head unit:
I did this recently with this model.
The cable is not a standard IDE cable. I can't remember the correct description but I will try to send my mind back to the80s.

It is a 40 pin reversed (or flipped) flat ribbon cable using standard IDC 2mm pitch connectors.
What this means is: Pin 1 = Pin 40, Pin 3 = Pin 38 etc...

A standard IDE connector (AFAIR) is a straight cable, meaning Pin 1 = Pin 1 and Pin 40 = Pin 40

This type of cable is used for many other applications in electronics, so it's not like they made a proprietary cable.

I did an unboxing of the 10.1 unit here:
And a "remote screen" install here:

And here is a photo of the actual cable that came with the unit to show the connectors, registration keys, and pin outs (Note the red/pink stripe)

I hope it saves someone from blowing up their screen!

p.s. I could be mistaken, trying to find the exact pinout for an IDE cable seems to be a bit difficult. Please feel free to correct me if wrong, but link to the source rather than just your opinion so we can all learn.

to get ADB on UIS7862 unit, read @gottahavit reply, thanks to him

Thank you very much! I made a video because I think the method you think is very beneficial to those who own other models.

hi, I did succeed enabling dark theme in google maps. you need to set your screen DPI lower (like a phone DPI instead of a tablet DPI) before opening google maps, this way you'll trigger google maps "Theme" feature in its settings. After that, you can revert back to the default tablet DPI.

To change the screen DPI, go to developer options (enter password, I think "3368")
Scroll down until you find "Smallest width", change it to 411 dp.
Then open google maps, and you'll get the "Themes" feature

[[ Memorize the default DPI to revert back later ]]

if you want to enable "System-wide dark theme" on whole android 10. you need ADB & usb cable. I used this app "

Automatic Dark Theme for Android 10" from playstore

I've decided to release CC3 to the public. Have fun. Manufacturer ID is set to 43. I am not responsible if you brick your unit or it explodes. I will provide 0 support. Do not PM me. Do not flash unless you know what you're doing or have a recovery update package to revert back to stock.
