Thanks Retty.
Just realised that there is too much pressure on the battery contact. When you ease up the 2 screws the watch goes on. So what I've done is apply pressure on the cover from the inside. Bending a bit the cover and the srew holes once you put it back there is less pressure on the contact and the watch is now on.
Thanks again and hopefully this

I have the same problem. It seems to me that stress caused by the battery swelled. Does anyone have instructions to disassemble.
thanks

Bigger 30x30mm is not posible, onlyan thickness can be bigger up to max 7mm (better max 6mm).
The battery is in a 'cage' that not allow get bigger size...
My orginal battery not overall the same thickness. Looks like blows up.

Thank you both! Had given up on my dead, faulty upon arrival, K8 until I saw your fixes. Even ordered a Samsung Gear S yesterday which I still want greatly over this thing because you can install full android on the Gear S now. Nice to see my $140 paper weight I just brought a few months ago is "working" again thanks to retty001 and DomenicoV! Quotes around working because, like discussed, the battery on the thing is crap. The battery percentage is completely off now and it doesn't hold a charge any longer after using a rapid charger cable. Guess we're suppose to know that, smh. Paid only $150 for the Gear S that has a much higher build quality and a huge beautiful curved large screen. Can't wait!

The problem with my K8 mini 3g

Hey guys, I need your help!
I happened to turn on this feature, which is in the developer options (I think it's called "emulation of additional screens" or "overlay №1: 1920x1080").
And now I can't turn it off. How do I do this?

Good morning how are you
First I forgive my English because I am using google translator.

My watch has died, when charge is heated and it scares me, if he can start the battery lasts an hour, sometimes not on. I think someone else has happened this, do you know how to solve it? thank you very much

the clock only starts if it is in the charging base, then if you boot. But when empIoys to turn up the heat on and off, and it is impossible to start it, I tried to dismantle but did not reach the battery so I do not know if this swollen or not. Has anyone bought a new one? You know what might be happening and how to fix it ?, Thanks

Happy new year,
i recieved the watch and rooted within an hour. The best way to root is to flash the recovery (TWRP) posted in this thread through SPflash and then install supersu and busybox.
I installed xposed, tasker, secure settings and xposed additions and i have automated the buttons:
Menu button :
1 click = menu
2 click = toggle one hand mode (this is extremely useful)
long press = recent apps
3 click = go run (gps,bt,mobile data on)
Back button :
1 click = back
2 click = previous app
long press = kill app
3 click = settings

Next step, i am downloading the settings apk from omate ts to replace the one on the watch because it is missing a lot of functionality.
After that i will try to change the dpi per element of the launcher because the notification panel and the app drawer is too big but if you change dpi for the launcher it affects the clock face. Does anyone have any tips of how to change these without too much hassle?

Hello.
I cant assign Toggle one hand Mode with xposed additions!... Just assign to one hand Mode app!
So, I cant use a button to change round/square screen!
Any help please?

Take off the rear case and disconnect the battery for 30 seconds. Then reconnect and try again.

I have also had this problem with watch randomly turning off and overheating; thanks for pointing to the fact that it was a battery problem.
The original battery was indeed swollen, pushing main PCB from behind, causing shutdowns with lid on.
To access the battery one has to desolder all antenna cables (GSM, BT/WiFi, GPS), speaker, disconnect 2 cables, then main PCB can be leaned on the side hanging on remaining 3rd flex cable which is soldered.
I've measured the dimensions of the original battery and ordered 550mah battery with standard 503030 size on ebay, then took battery controller PCB with connector from the old one and resoldered it to the new one.
Reassembled the watch, works perfectly. Apparently, the original battery was reeeeally bad.

Hope this helps someone, can post few photos if needed.

Okay, here!

Mainboard photo:
1,2,3 - simply disconnect (3 is actually battery)
4,5,6,7 - desolder 3 antennas and speaker
8, 9 - I left them connected (8 is a bit trickier to desolder, 9 will lift together with microphone)
then unscrew 2 small screws, they're also on the photo
then you turn the board over to the left - here is your battery!

Two batteries photo:
left is the original one, dead; yellow insulation removed and board unbent from the battery.
In red are the two contacts that you can simply carefully cut.
Right is new battery as is. Remove yellow tape, carefully desolder the board (DO NOT overheat the battery!).

Single battery photo:
board from old battery soldered to new battery.
Add yellow tape, fold all back, put inside, reassemble, done.

That's a standard flex cable connector, unlock the black lock by pulling it up then pull out the cable.

thanks
do you have link to order battery

I personally bought this, seller tesky12:

How to and FAQ for K8

To save Pablo11, Cyrux75, Maitrot, chiragjn and all those others that have contributed in this thread, the trouble of repeating the same instructions and to help new owners find solutions fast, i have made a compilation of the most useful posts in this thread. None of this is mine.
The thread starter could think of putting this in the op to save some trouble.

Dont use OTA if rooted! You have to go back to stock.

I have already had several private messages asking me to fix semi-bricked watches by posting them to me.
I have a family and a full time position at work and I cannot invest the time to fix peoples watches.
If instructions are followed carefully and the forum posts regarding MTK flash tools are read then there should be no problem.
    As a rule - always;
    a) full backup first including NVRAM for IMEI using MTK tools.
    b) make sure all drivers for SP tools are installed correctly in case of disaster.
    c) have the custom TWRP recovery installed on the watch - booting from SD recovery is no good if you can't boot the watch!!
    d) make sure watch is fully charged before you do anything that may take some time.
    e) copy the TWRP stock backup posted by me earlier in this thread to your SD card before you do anything significant - you can delete it after but remember this each time you do something that may prevent normal boot.
This way you can always boot into recovery without your pc and flash back to stock.
Lastly - take some comfort in the fact that it's actually very difficult to permanently brick this device. If you use the correct toolset you can revive the watch almost all the time !!

    FAQ:
Does it have GPS ? YES

Companion APP? Swapp link and notisync work but this is not an android wear watch! This is like your smartphone. If you have two smartphones you can connect them through swapp link and check it out. There difference with wear is that it is optimized to be a slave to your smartphone.

Round screen means some buttons on the edges will not be accessible, try making it square (see above how) and think of using tasker to make a long press of a button to trigger the change (root required).

    Does runkeeper work ? YES

Is the heart rate sensor and good ? Not if you are serious about it. Use a bluetooth HRM (Scosche Rhytm+ or Mio). Also the embedded sensor does not communicate with any of the known sport apps.

Can i change straps ? Well, yes if you dont use any of the antennas that are in the straps! If you are handy you can take the antennas out of the straps (they should be microstrip antennas) and stick them on the new strap, though the reception may be affected as the substrate of the antenna plays an important role.

    TWRP recovery 2.7.1.0 ported!

Finally I completed the job :)

Fully working TWRP 2.7.1.0 for our watch is here!
I did all my best to port&test it, but I cannot guarantee anything.
    Use at your own risk!
    Enjoy ;)

    FAQ:
Does it have GPS ? YES, the antenna is inside the strap (the top strap). If you want better reception keep the strap on top, facing the sky, this means that when running you may want to wear the watch in reverse. Also try to put a plastic spacer between your hand and the strap where the GPS antenna resides, it will help reception, i use a rubber band.

Companion APP? Swapp link and notisync work but this is not an android wear watch! This is like your smartphone. If you have two smartphones you can connect them through swapp link and check it out. There difference with wear is that it is optimized to be a slave to your smartphone.

    Cooking with gas!!

    Nice work mate :good:

I did it a slightly different way:

Managed to get a fully working G-Apps set up by flashing this https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/68912738/open_gapps-arm-4.4-nano-20151106.zip in recovery.

Tricky to sign in to Google but it can be done with a little patience :) This is a very light version with voice, play store and the google app itself - to keep performance up.

Once installed you can get anything you want from the store.

Remember to use the bottom right button to help get through. It's pretty slow but it works.

A fully ported recovery is coming from cyrux75 so it can be done easily from now on. :good:

Give the file awhile to upload :)

Does it matter what model you get?

I'm still waiting on my Gearbest order. They are taking a long time to get my D5 out. Delay with supplier (No.1?) apparently.

My question is how will the buttons difference will vary in software for the D5 and K8. The D5 only has one button. The K8 has three and the new version on gearbest (an ugly offering in my opinion) has two buttons.

Also, I want to (and will) dontate to this project but am waiting for more information on what we can expect from the upgrade. Thank you Lokifish for offering your help on this!

It doesn't really, but to avoid any future possible conflicts with those that donated...

Buttons are a nothing issue. It's a couple entries in the keyboard config. So build for three, incorporate D5 gestures as well, and if buttons aren't there (Mini/D5/D9), the lines in the config do nothing.

    Here's what you will get (no promises or ETA's but shouldn't be hard);
    • Better battery life via better kernel governor usage (if the device cooperates- about 4 days light use with syncs, week or more *clean standby)
    • Improved network efficiency
    • Improved memory management
    • Removal of useless garbage
    • Private OTA service
    • Round display formatted TWRP
    • Firmware archive (will need help from folks with this)
    • ROM archive with change logs
    • Cherry picking from the K8, Mini and D5 firmware
    • Better watchfaces (Seconds ring on a watch with that exact thing in the bezel, seriously?)
    • Far more watchfaces (merge and clean up both K8 and Mini/D5 faces)
    • Custom watchfaces possible via root (guess I'll need to write a guide for this)
    • Voice as primary input method instead of a tiny little keyboard (kinda like Wear)
    • Security checks, and fixes where possible

For the most part, this is a few hundred changes that nobody will notice just by looking at the watch. The UI is reasonable and looks like the workflow is decent. As far as any user installed apps formatting correctly, that requires one rewrite each individual app, and do it every time that original app is updated. That's a massive app development team level of work. So, per app dpi and Xposed will be your friend

*Clean standby (what we usually read as standby in specs) is radio on and connected to a perfect signal, but not a single thing passing data. For phones this is cellular connection with BT and Wifi off. For companion smartwatches this means BT on and connected but wifi and cellular (if supported) off.

    What can't be fixed/added;
    • Deep core level issues like battery level reporting, or the OEM messing up kernel level things like the radios in an update.
    • Expanding companion features- I'd have to rewrite the entire firmware without source (near impossible) and steal SWApp Link then completely rewrite the UI and certain aspects of the core.
    • Android Wear
    • Coffee maker

    Hope this clears things up.
