I am glad to say that I'm currently using CyanogenMod with the help that you provided me. Thank you leapenlar for your time today.
The fix was a Kingston 8gb class 4 SD card.

I did not power down

I was only in sleep mode and it would not boot until after I shut down fully. Hope this helps someone.

has anyone had any updated advice on this subject?
I had recieved an HD 7" for christmas and got it to load 10.1 hummingbird. It was a little finecky when trying to install apps from the SD card. But worked.

I have upgraded to the HD+ and cannot get the unit to boot from SD. I've formatted the cards, formatted and partitioned, flashed the 4gb image, tried loading the boot files, tried the small edition of cw recovery and have put about 8 hours into this thing with no luck. Im not going to jump ship or nothing, but really enjoyed 10.1.

I bought a Nook HD+ for the mothers day sale, booted CM10.1 from the SD card, and it ran fine for about a week. It ended up dying, so I had to exchange for a new one. Brought my new one home today, and it would not boot any of my bootable SD cards. I had 3 that worked on my old HD+, and none of them work on this new one. No clue, but thought I should warn you all. I'm now looking for a buyer of my brond new device as it's useless to me without root.

I know this is an old post but I thought I'd share something that worked for me. After all of the ideas I found here failed I got frustrated and forgot about my nook- next time I picked it up it had shut down from low battery with the sd card still in it. When I turned it back on it booted off the sd card into cwm. Maybe letting your battery run out then rebooting will work for others.

I bought Nook HD+ about week ago from local reseller. I'm not sure that it's very new, but it has 2.2.0 version of stock.
For I had not managed to use the stock and had had some problems with registration, I decided to install CM. But I faced the same problem with booting from SD card. I tried to boot from SD card 40 times, I also tried all of above mentioned tricky magic (like pushing SD card into the slot ) .
But what's worked for me is changing SD card.
Sandisk 32 GB 1 class.
No burning IMG.

I have two devices. My old one boots to SD very reliably. My new one is very temperamental. But it will boot eventually. For me it just takes many, many tries. I finally got it to boot, did a nandroid backup, then flashed the emmc CM10.1 and the emmc CWM. So now I never have to boot to SD again with it. All flashing can be done with emmc CWM.

Edit: If you want to stay with stock and still be able to flash my mods, you can just flash the CWM that gets put on internal memory (emmc) so that you don't have to boot the SD CWM anymore. I made a custom version (6028) for internal memory. You can get it or ]. That just means it cannot be auto-updated to a new stock. After you install this internal memory CWM, you get to it by holding the n and power keys together on boot and releasing after a few seconds. It should boot to CWM. If you want a new update to stock, you would need to flash it manually with CWM. If you do update, you will need to re-flash the emmc CWM again immediately before re-booting since the update replaces CWM with stock recovery.

I have been trying to root my sons new hd plus 2.2.0 , was at your first thread which gives the steps, download zips ect, but there are so many versions there I cant tell chat is for the 2.2.0, the older ones will not work correct???

I even clicked on the add link in this thread to have it remotely rooted by rootandroid and they cant do it..lol so much for that..
Can you help me with directly telling me what I need to root this version 2.2.0 and how to get it to boot from sd card.??? my brain is melting from all the reading downloading and trying to get something to happen.

You must get the bootable SD to boot or none of my mods will work. You say you used the new procedure from my section 1a and it still will not boot? What exactly did you do, which files did you use, what is the brand and class of the SD that you used? I need more information.

Did you put the BOOTFILES from the .rar archive on the SD? Sounds like you just copied the image zip to the SD. It won't boot that way. Read section 1a again.

Once you get the SD to boot you only need the universal root rev3 and unknown sources zips. You don't need the 2.2 zip, gapps zip or the add cyanoboot zips. Just because I have the files on the thread does not mean you need them.

You don't need gapps, I already told you that. Stock comes with gapps already.

You can download the .rar file but I'm not sure your PC can open it without more software to do it. If you can, just copy the 5 files there to the SD and the two zips I told you to use earlier. If you can't do that, use the burning method and the two zips. No others.

Thanks finally got it, I still can't install some apps from the play store, I thought this would enable me to do that, will It enable side loading then or do I need to install a different file to be able to install and gapp on it?

You already have gapps on stock. That is how you got Play Store, which is a gapp. But the problem with Play Store not showing apps as compatible is a Play Store problem. There is not much you can do about that. But just because Play Store says it is not compatible does not mean it will not run on your device. In fact most will. Your solution is to use other stores like Amazon or 1mobile.com. Or if you can find the apk file somewhere you can install it directly. That is why you flashed the unknown sources zip, to allow those options.

Thanks was able to get 1mobile but could not get amazon app to download, said I needed to change my security settings to allow unknown apps which I obviously shouldn't have to do, , his nook doesn't have that anyway. At least I have one source .

Amazon has two apps. One is their shopping app and one is their store. But you should not have got that message if the unknown sources zip took. It will not hurt to flash it again.

I know it was the amazon App Store , I was able to put an app from 1moble that I was unable to get from gapps, to flash it again do I just reinstall it over what's there or do I have to uninstall the unknown source file first.

You can't uninstall the unknown sources setting. Since you were able to install an app from 1mobile, the setting is proper. I don't know why the Amazon app store app failed. It should have worked. I just suggest trying to install an app from there again.
