That is only true if you Force stop. Many of the Samsung and T-Mobile apps actually have a "Turn off" option. This will survive a reboot, but maybe not an update. I reboot into stock recovery every couple of days to wipe the cache partition, and they stay turned off, at least on my device. Factory image 4.4.2, plus T-Mobile update, stock, not rooted.

I'm on T-Mobile's JUMP! program. According to them, I can drop my phone in a blender, wash in with my clothes, have a 600 pound dude sit on it, beg a mugger to steal it, run it over with my car and still get another phone.

I'm not going to worry about voiding a warranty. :cyclops:
yeah really, I mean with the Jump! plan and having two phones purchased six months apart, you can literally change without a problem (had to rig it this way since when I got my S4 last spring there was no jump!, however several months later when I signed my sister up on my plan she was able to get jump! and several days later I did). hence why I have a S-series and a Note series. And with the jump! plan, what's the point of doing OS updates, let alone caring about voiding a warranty? you're gonna get tempted to change your hardware every six months anyway (and of course it's a given that you'll get the latest-ish software (eg: latest Android is kitkat, however there's 4.4.2 and 4.4.3 IIRC))...

that being said, to the topic at hand, I ran Tmo's performance check, and I had no bill increases (other than Google Play purchases and PSN points purchases), phone bricked, won't work on the service anymore, yadda yadda yadda. all it did was cry cuz I rooted.

Am I the only one that thinks this is BS?

For an app to check root, it must do one of a number of things including:

1: Try to write or gain access to a system file - which would trigger a root request.
2: Scan for Supersu or other root apps(not executable) - which doesn't prove anything.
3: Scan for the SU executable in the system directory - which could work but still doesn't prove that you have "root" access, only that there is a file which string matches the filename that was hardcoded into it's app.

None of these, except for #1 if you allow it (lol) will PROVE that you have root access to your device.

Um, when did the guy think it was zero? Did the guy say he didn't have to pay anything? You seem to be putting words in the guys mouth.
Also, on JUMP! it doesn't matter if your rooted. 3 things are checked at the time of a trade-in:

... phone must pass a three-point inspection: 1) powers on, 2) no cracked screen, and 3) no water damage.
Exactly. I have jumped twice already. Turned in a rooted phone both times

Did anybody read the disclaimer before MyAccount program starts? I have disabled part that checks for root, but I could swear the one time it run, it showed disclaimer that no personal info is send to T-mo, so even if they cared about it, which they don't, they claim not to collect the info. The one thing that I don't like is the carrier IQ, which does collect and sends some info and it's invisible.

It's already been said, but uninstall that app. With that app installed, Tmo can actually remotely log into your device when you call them with problems and see everything on it. I have read a couple instances of it from other XDA members; as well as I called the other day about my S5 and some data additional data that was on my paper bill but not my online bill, and the guy said "lets check your phone... hmmm, that's odd, I cannot log into your phone. Is your tmobile My Account App working properly?" to which I replied "no, it's not there." He commenced to tell me that that could be a problem, warranty, blah blah blah. So we got into a very long discussion about warranty to which he had no reply where it states in their contract that I absolutely voided my warranty with root and custom. Long story short, he said he was marking my phone number as warranty something or other and that I had customized my phone. whoop-de-do, prove it when I drown it or throw a brick through it for a warranty claim if I ever need one... :D

And I wanted to see how much data I used. I guess my curiosity got the best of me :(
nteresting, I don't have device health in myAccount App.
I have Notifications, Account info and Device Support. Just bought my Note 3 today from TMob
I unfortunately did not see this thread :( I enabled it to see what it was and then saw it had my root status and disabled it... I think there was an option to sync to tmobile or something too and my was not enabled, so hopefully it won't get back to them but I'm pretty sure it's probably logged somewhere on the phone itself.
My answer was to delete the T-Mobile app.
If anyone is looking for an alternative for data monitoring, that accounts for Binge-On usage, check out my thread on cracking this app open and grabbing the server URL for checking data, I also released code to integrate it with Tasker.

Point 2- when they mean cracked screen do they refer to the black screen or the glass that cover the black screen??
