The "kernel swap" root method has been working on recent updates for other sammy devices/variants and there is a strong chance it will work for you.

1. Install towelroot.
2. Odin flash the previous firmware's kernel.
3. Root using towelroot.
4. Flash back the new kernel. Done!

Someone that is rooted and hasn't updated needs to pull the ota update file from their cache/fota folder and make the new kernel available.
Looks like others are also working on this so I won't but this method should work as long as the new firmware is able to boot on the old kernel.

I'll post a guide with all the steps once I someone uploads the OTA .zip so that I can make the Kernel .tar and the Modem .tar.

Yeah you are right root shouldn't affect the download.

Try this.
1. Use ES File Explorer.
2. Enable root access in its menu.
3. Mount / with RW access.
4. Cut and paste the file in /data/fota to internal SD.
5. Now try to redownload the update see if they both have the same MD5
Will do. I'm redownloading it now. It'll be a while because Comcast is throttling me because I've downloaded like 20+ gigs of ROMs, games, etc this month. My download speeds are only a few kps instead of 30mbs+ like it's supposed to be...

Take your time man.
Alright, so while the update is downloading I installed ES File Explorer from the Play Store, but I can't find the setting anywhere to mount with R/W access. If I go to the data folder ES says it's an empty folder, but Root Explorer shows it full of all sorts of stuff. I've never used ES File Explorer before, so where would I find this setting?

On left side open the menu. Tools --> 'Root Explorer' ON ---> Then click on "Root Explorer" name ---> Mount R/W

Perfect. Can you also post MD5 hash of that file?
Select .cfg file in ES File Explorer --> Click More in lower right corner --> Properties ---> Show Checksum
MD5= 0ded74ae4ccc02075d145c57be5d5ecd

I don't know if you need the SHA-1, but it's b43a3ba66e5241080119218ad8883573110e7e2f just in case you need it.

I'm jealous LOL mine is still at 48% ;)

Any one who has took the OTA, can you pull your system for us and upload?

here is a small tool adb-pull-system

Before Your Able to pull your System files

Make sure you have installed adb drivers for your device
Turn on "Developer options" from (Settings\General\About device tap on Build number about 7 times until Developer options is turned on)
enable "USB DEBUGGING" from (Settings\General\Developer options check "USB DEBUGGING")
Increase screen timeout to 10 minutes
Connect USB cable to PHONE and then connect to PC

Look at screen and give ADB access (you might have to run bat file again if access was not ready the first time)
Thanks
