So my phone downloaded and installed the update. Everything looks hunky dory except that my phone shows system status is Custom.

Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
Knox Warranty Void: 0x0

Did this happen to anyone else?

That was a adb push to sdcard, I have since rooted and have the two backup unpacked and deodexing. When deodexing done I will upload. When I get home I will test your rom.

You go to muniz_ri thread. he did a safestrap recovery of the OTA, that keeps root but you need to odin flash back to stock NC2

but you can odin back to stock NC2 then follow OP instructions to install OTAwith rootkeeper, then you will have the NJ5 stock rom with root. but no safestrap recovery for NJ5 yet

yes you can go back by installing NC2 and start over then after you get safestrap back you just restore your backup rom

Alright guys here it is!!

Warning: Proceed with caution. Don't do this if you don't know how to recover soft-brick.

Follow each and every step carefully!

1. FULLY restore your phone to stock NC2 using this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2703006

2. Install and root using towelroot. https://towelroot.com/tr.apk

3. Install Busybox from Playstore. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox

4. Install new SS from here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001611249

5. Download this and save it on external SD card. http://www.fileconvoy.com/dfl.php?id=g1929ee392d5c80bd99958685196971a1d46441ff2

6. Boot into SS and Wipe everything expect External SD.

7. Flash the ''N900A_Sprint_4.4.4_NH7" you downloaded earlier.

8. Optional step. You can now flash the debloater to remove crap from here:- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2587899

8. Once you are done flashing. Reboot to download mode. Using SS --> Reboot --> Download OR by pressing 'Volume Down + Home + Power'

9. Using Odin. Flash this Kernel, Modem and NON-HLOS.bin:- Here http://d-h.st/fvW & http://d-h.st/F2q & http://d-h.st/o2F

10. Reboot and report back.

ok I did the install as posted here, odin installed the three files.....

heard boot sound but screen is stuck at Samsung Galaxy Note3 screen......
then boot loops...
installed whole NJ5 bootloader files... same thing Samsung Galaxy Note3 screen......
then boot loops...
