SGP521 I have had this tablet since launch day in Hong Kong.

This is by far the best update I have experienced. Compared to all the other updates, this represents the biggest jump in improvement for me.

To be honest, stability I am not sure about, because I cannot feel the difference. It has never been unstable for me.

But! Touch screen accuracy is a major improvement, not small like other updates. Also improved charging times is noticeable too.

The pain I had when surfing blogs and forums, where you have to try and hit the small ' next page ' button is now stress free. Before, I regularly missed the intended button but now I can hit it like a sniper.

BRILLIANT! Now it is complete and a perfect tablet!

If this is improved on the non LTE tablets aswell I will notice it straight away as this is what I have most problem with in the current firmware (havent gotten the newest update). Its such a pain in the ass sometimes and would love to get it fixed and it sounds good that the LTE update seems to improve the experience.

Don't hold your breath guys. I've installed the update on my LTE version yesterday. The touch response is as bad as ever IMO. Sometimes it works great, sometimes it's hopeless. Started the tablet on a cold morning here in Australia and the touch was so bad, had to do my pattern password three times, cos it was not registering the whole pattern. It's been always like that in the mornings and intermittent touch issues at other times. Its a huge disappointment to get a premium product with such poor implementation from Sony. I love the design but very unlikely to be buying any touch devices from them again.

Thank you for your diligent efforts... I can confirm that the second upload works. I now have 17.1.2.A.0.314 working on my xperia z2 tablet and even with root!!

I appreciate your work
Will this work with SGP561? (Z2 Tablet) And would it result in a loss of DRM keys? I am on a Verizon branded phone with tons of issues and would like to flash it to the international version. I am not concerned about warranty, but don't want to lose app functionality.

Root didn't hold

So, I lost root with the update, even though SuperSu Pro survival mode was active. I guess we're lucky that this updates kernel is still exploitable. Anything I can do to make root more permanent? Did anyone have luck with another method?

Before the update i had the classic 1/25 unrecognized touch failure, and some weirdness when executing multitouch gestures. Now, after 314 update, my screen is working perfectly, no more unrecognized touches and more responsiveness.

I never had the kind of failure you are describing, and it does not seems like a general problem of the device, instead, it looks like some digitizer hardware problem in your unit, not related to software. If i were you i would contact Sony's customer support.

Thanks a lot. :) Sorry, I wasn't clear here, but that's what I meant with we're lucky that the kernel is still exploitable. This tool uses towelroot for a root exploit and installs a kernel extension for write permissions on /system. Now, once Sony updates the Kernel to one that's not exploitable anymore (which is a pretty huge security risk on its own and should be fixed ASAP) with the next update we won't have that method of rooting available anymore. Having never owned anything else than Nexus devices before the danger of losing root permanently is pretty new to me, that's why I'm asking if there's a known working method to prevent that.

Just got update in UK for my SGP521. Am on O2 Branded version...

Gone from
Phone Software version
1278.4804_17.1.1.A.0.402

Customization Version

to:

Phone Software version

Not tried it out at all, so no idea about improvements etc...

This method is way easier: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794175

Download the latest dual recovery for TabZ2, execute the install.bat file, choose option "3" (for non rooted devices) and it will root + Install recoveries in one single step without user intervention.
You're talking about unlocking BL, installing CWM and rooting.... a bit misleading.

There's people who want only root and don't want to unlock and hence void warranty / lose future OTA path. hence the chat re: towelroot and easyroot

Erm... No, nothing about that. Read again the link I posted, it roots and install recovery on locked bootloader. Please don't mislead people looking for help.

OK my bad, you aren't unlocking BL

Still you are messing with the recovery (abeit without unlocking BL). I think it should be made clear whether its a pure root exploit or it involves messing with bootloader/recovery in any way shape or form.

OK on the new update. Thankfully I can now type this without the double tap issue. Its weird sometimes the vibration registers double tap but the screen doesn't.. Makes me think that's why it was a big software update ( which by the way it is). As for touch sensation; well its still the same for me, I rarely touch something and I have to touch it again. Rarely meaning that it does happen, especially with chrome. Tablet is still rock solid as always. My only thing is camera and video quality in a dim area, the pictures and the video is very poor, I mean really pathetic in my opinion. Shame considering the z2 phone has a great camera

Nooo, you can't mess with factory recovery without unlocking the bootloader. Recoveries on locked bl are installed in a different way, on top of existing bl and factory recovery.

Can someone confirm whether or not this new update fixes this issue with Chrome where double tapping in landscape doesn't zoom in as it should? For example: Its hard to tell when someone on page 3 says the screen sensitivity didn't change much but someone on page 6 says there is a vast improvement etc... THANX!
