ya mate do a backup and restore thru recovey
so after doing a wipe and factory reset from within twrt I then loaded the prerooted 5.1.1 again and this time I have no issues, took me a while to rebuild my phone and install all my apps etc but everything seems to be working for now

many thanks to all those that assisted and to the OP for a great upload

I'm having weird problem: whenever i try to mount system in r/w nothing happens, i can't delete, copy to nor modify in system. Tried root checker and it says the root is properly installed, tried different root explorer with no luck as well. Any other ideas?
Thanks!

This is a known issue and op is trying to find a solution. I've tried other roms running 5.1.1 and it's all the same. They have an issue with this

Fix for system r/w error

I found the answer, forgot to update my post, sorry.
So, how to fix it:
1. Install the prerooted zip
2. download
Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.8.21-RELEASE.flashable.zip
and UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip to your SD card
3. reboot in TWRP recovery and choose to install UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
4. don't flash it right away, instead choose "add more zips" and add Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.8.21-RELEASE.flashable.zip
5. now install them
6. clean dalvik cache and you're ready to go

The reason behind this bug is that root doesn't fully work in 5.1.1 when intended for prerooted rom, flashing the superuser after the rom fixes it.
