Do you have the original Xoom? If so, how does the screen quality look compared to the original. Does it look look like the screen is the same size (as in it'll be the exact fit) as the original? How's the viewing angle? How does it look in daylight?

>What are the chances that the current 3.2 images would work on this?

If USB charging is allowed, then battery is the 3.7V variety instead of the orig's 7.4V. At the least, that means the battery level would be different, and you'd risk over/undercharging the battery with the orig's ROM. May even cause an explosion.

One thing not mentioned is whether the Family Ed has only b/g/n rather than the orig's dual-band a/b/g/n.

Moto repositioned the Xoom for the low-end ($350-400), so the upcoming Xoom2 (w/ ICS) will likely be at $450-500 base. It'd be curious if Moto will upgrade the Teg2 Xoom to ICS.

Anyway, I'm hoping ICS will catch on better than HC.

Ok I looked at the "Family Zoom" This is what I saw, no duel flash, no duel speaker, no card slot and only 16GB, and the only one looking at them. Had to twist the saleman's arm just for him to open the box. They were stacked inside a bottom cabnet!

I just bought one of these. Other than a small bright spot on the screen, (probably going to exchange it because it bugs me), this is a nice device. Very snappy, though quadrant only hit 1550, which leads me to believe this is not a Tegra2 Processor (someone please share input on this). However it does say in the specs that it's an Nvidia GPU, so I'm not sure. The build quality is excellent. Not a hint of flex in the body, and the back is brushed aluminum with the sides and bezel made with good quality soft touch plastic. Loving Honeycomb, and this tablet does indeed have a microSD slot, but I can't get it to see my SD card...

The Best Buy on-line ad claims that the Family Edition runs Netflix! I wonder if it has hardware DRM (like the Lenovo) or if Netflix is (natively) coming to the rest of us.

Picked one up yesterday, so far I am liking it, never had any real seat time with the original, but i like the feel of this one.

External sd is supported. It looks like in the internal memory is mounted in the sdcard folder, so the external gets mounted under /mnt/sdcard2.

Specs on the moto site show no a on the wifi card (802.11 b,g,n).

I also checked out the dimensions and found

family 260 x 177 x 11.4 mm
original 249.1 x 167.8 x 12.9 mm

and none of the xoom 1 cases fit the family (found this out the hard way)

Sadly I can report that I've downloaded Netflix from the market and I cannot get it to work. It loads up, loads my recently watched, and then fails to play any of them. Bummer. I did get the chance to talk to a Motorola rep randomly today, and he confirmed that this is a tegra 2 tablet. Previously the only confirmation I had of this was the about part of the settings. He also seemed pretty optimistic that we would continue to get updates, including ICS. That's a good sign!

I'm pretty bummed about Motorola's stance on the bootloader on the Xoom Family. The only thing I can access in Windows via power button/volume up is APX.... I don't suppose they left NVFlash available for people to use. Probably locked it with an Atrix-like SBK. All I'm really looking for is root access within the stock ROM.

Some of the pix on Moto's web site -> http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/U...ets/MOTOROLA-XOOM-FAMILY-EDITION-US-EN#anchor clearly show a icon for Netflix on the screen...

BUT.... take a look at from their FAQs -> https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/71535
Motorola XOOM Family Edition - Netflix

When will Netflix be available?

As Netflix announced via blog post, the Android Market download for their application is initially available only on select devices that currently have the requisite playback support.

We are working closely with Netflix to expand playback support and deliver their application on Motorola Android-based devices. We will share additional information as it becomes available.

Note: The Netflix application can currently be downloaded but cannot stream. When you attempt to stream you will receive the error message: "Cannot Reach Netflix Service"
That is pretty shady moto!!

EDIT: Thankfully Netflix updated their Android app yesterday to support Honeycomb devices. from -> https://market.android.com/details?id=com.netflix.mediaclient&feature=search_result
What's in this version:

Support for Android 3.x devices.
Available in the USA, Canada and Latin America.
Supports alternate audio and subtitles.
I still think Moto (and other vendors) should WAIT until something is available before they mark the box, include photos, etc... Just look how long the LTE upgrade took on the 3G/Verizon Xoom, and look at flash on the Viewsonic Gtab its situation with flash, etc.
