I can confirm that Universal Root zip still works. Took me a while to straighten out the Play Store though. But it works too, even if you had flashed my gapps zip. May take me a while to test everything to be sure the zips still work.

Would be nice for Stock and CM10? I don't know that I'd want to be disguised as an N7 but it does get Apps from Play Store

"Disguise your Kindle Fire as a Nexus 7 to (possibly) see more apps on the Play Store
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2051331&page=172

This (script) will modify and set the following build properties as follows:
ro.product.model=Nexus 7
ro.product.brand=google
ro.product.manufacturer=Asus
ro.build.description=nakasi-user 4.2.2 JDQ39 573038 release-keys
ro.build.fingerprint=google/nakasi/grouper:4.2.2/JDQ39/573038:user/release-keys"

PS:..............
I don't even have the Nook HD to poke into build.prop but looking forward to it. Couldn't resist and $80 refurb on Ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190832553070. New for me after working with. N7, KF, GT2.7, Xoom, iUnmentionable. And Phones

Don't be using a script from the Kindle forum on your stock to modify build prop. You will end up resetting your device.

I'm surprised they didn't do it earlier. Now I can just buy it for my wife and not bother with rooting and CM install. I would prefer them unlock the bootloader and I truly believe it would boost the sale for their HD and HD+.

I was unable to get the sideload to work on my HD+. The .npk file disappears after it sleeps for a bit, but never reboots and doesn't do the update even if I manually reboot.

Maybe -- and this only a guess -- the hybrid SD card CM10 install interferes? I'm planning to let it try and get the OTA update while sleeping over the next few days. If that doesn't work, I'll consider doing an complete wipe and then installing from scratch.

Is it just me, or has anyone else running hybrid had difficultly with the update?

Just download the rom zip that I modified for flashing with CWM from my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature. You can flash it with either stock CWM or the SD CM CWM. See item 9 in that thread.

And yes, if you had the hybrid SD inserted, that would interfere since it would try to boot to that rather than stock recovery to automatically flash it.

I was just able to get the update OTA. Funny, it didn't work a few minutes ago.

Now off to play...

Hi,

I downloaded NookHDplus-factory-2.1.0-plain-stock.zip and tried to flash it through cwm, but I am getting an error "Failed to retouch '/system/lib/libemoji.so'" while installing.

My nook is hybrid cm10.

I'm not sure why it is doing that. It is possible that using the Hybrid CWM is the culprit. It should not make a difference though. Try booting to your stock CWM SD card and try that. If that does not work, use the stock CWM to wipe system first. (Don't use the Hybrid CWM to do that or it will wipe the Hybrid system.)

thanks so much for your reply. So I just took out my cwm sd card and let it boot normally, and nook asked me if I want to reset, and I picked yes. Now it is back to stock, and I just upgraded to 2.10. I am going to flash extras zip.

best,
z

Have been using CM 10/10.1 for months. Just installed the 2.1 update to see whether just using stock would suffice. A big thing I miss with stock is a soft Home button, hate using the physical home button. Is there any way to customize the dock at the bottom to add a home button?

This is exciting news! I don't use stock, however I think this will increase the popularity of this device and hopefully increase the size of the Nook HD/+ community here on xda forums.

I use Button Saviour on stock. Not exactly what you're looking for, but probably as close as we'll get. I would much rather it let ADW Ex override the dock and notifications.

I've been running CM10 for a while on mine. I did like others here: popped out my mSD card, booted to stock and updated from control panel. Rebooted, 2.1.0 installed and runs fine. mSD card back in and CM10 still boots fine and boots stock.

I'm pretty happy with 2.1.0 now that it has Play access. Now I'd actually recommend the HD+ to non-techies, whereas before I would never recommend this device to anyone incapable of ROMing it.

The things I like about stock over CM10 is screen rotation is quicker, and my Poetic case/cover both wakes up and sleeps the screen when open/closed. (in CM10 it will wake the screen but not sleep it).

The only thing I really hate about stock is wasted space from both top and bottom menu bars. On top of it, the bottom bar is extra thick, and it sticks around all too often in apps. Much of the time the bars are actually robbing about 1/2 inch screen real estate. I wish B&N would have settled for just using space on one menu bar rather than hog space with their own.

Even though stock is much improved, I don't see much compelling reason to use it over CM10, which is what I'll be sticking with.

While this is great news for the owners of the Nook HD and HD+, I think we are seeing the end of Barnes and Nobles tablet making days.
The idea of the tablet was to sell it cheap, and to make money on the app side. Since opening access to the Google Play Store, where most apps can be purchased for less money, B&N have pretty much admitted failure of their app store.

I tried uninstalling some of the apps like pandora/spotify/facebook/.... that come bundled with the 2.1 ROM but after a while they get restored. I tried using Titanium to freeze them instead and they still got restored. Any idea how to permanently freeze/uninstall the bundled apps? Thx.

You can't. B&N just keeps putting them back. They REALLY want you to keep them. LOL
