I tried uninstalling some of the apps like pandora/spotify/facebook/.... that come bundled with the 2.1 ROM but after a while they get restored. I tried using Titanium to freeze them instead and they still got restored. Any idea how to permanently freeze/uninstall the bundled apps? Thx.
try to use root uninstaller

While this is great news for the owners of the Nook HD and HD+, I think we are seeing the end of Barnes and Nobles tablet making days.
The idea of the tablet was to sell it cheap, and to make money on the app side. Since opening access to the Google Play Store, where most apps can be purchased for less money, B&N have pretty much admitted failure of their app store.
does make sense if you were looking to sell the nook brand to a hardware manufacturer or partner with with another company. That's what I'd recommend. Their volume is still significant and the design is competitive.

If you cannot install a /system/app/ then how can you update one?

I think whatever method you use BN will put them back for you.
Using Titanium I froze NOOK* (except NOOK Keyboard), com.bn.bnappinstaller and some other apps and haven't had the bundled apps restored. Not sure which one did the trick. That said am going to go back to 10.1 now, too many annoyances with the BN curated system.

This is great news because this device, at least to me, is pretty worthless without Google play being available on it. I would love to use to use the nook launcher as my default launcher but all of my side loaded apps won't appear in the app menu so I still have to use another launcher. Is a major plus though because I bought the Fantastic 4 Zen Pinball table and it wont work with my Nook HD+ but now I can actually email zen to see if they can make it work. Also nice to have gmail on my tab, wouldn't work before.

If you want them to show in the stock launcher then just uninstall and then reinstall the app. It will then show in the stock launcher app drawer.

You are absolutely right, thanks for the tip! Time to give the original launcher a go for a while.

Is it just me, or does this make the HD and HD+ MUCH MUCH more legit tablets? This also raises a question: If the Nook HD, which is essentially the same as the Nook Tablet (-the screen) can support ICS, and Google Play, why can't the Nook Tablet???

I know, but B&N is stupid for forcing us to buy a new nook with virtually the same hardware just to get ICS and the Play Store.

It is not virtually the same hardware as the Nook Tablet. Besides the screen, it has a significantly faster processor (1.3 vs 1.0 GHz) and it is significantly smaller and lighter. I did not buy it to get ICS or Play Store.

You can't. B&N just keeps putting them back. They REALLY want you to keep them. LOL

That's my experience as well. I tried disabling them -- which would have been an acceptable alternative for me -- but B&N also keeps re-enabling them every time my library syncs. Even my phone doesn't do that.

So back to CM10 for me. Despite the quirks and minor frustrations in CM10, I prefer to control my device, particularly for applications which constantly phone home.

Chrome issues

Hope someone can help here. I'm running 2.1 having previously rooted and installed chrome via side load. Now, Chrome browser keeps getting disabled without doing anything on my end. I can enable and it will work for a while but then it disbales. I can't uninstall it.

Anyone know what's going on or have any suggestions on how to address this?

The problem could be that now you have chrome installed in /system and /data. You can try reinstalling chrome with play store and it may fix it.

Or it could be that your profile has chrome disabled. Go to your profile and edit content and manage apps. Make sure chrome is checked.

Thanks. I can't install from play store (when I pull it up it says it's disabled) but I tried your 2nd solution and Chrome was unchecked so I checked it. It works presently so we'll see if it disables later.
