of course they do. that's acutually the first thing they do, before anything else.
My screen broke, so I sent it in for repair and in the process I asked for the Widevine stuff, and they did it all. Of course phone was stock and bootloader was locked again. But those few steps did not take me long.
So before they start with any repair or update they completely wipe the device!

My OP5 is unlocked under 8.1 and Netflix works as well.

So I don't really now what David is talking about.. I'm confused..

When did you guys sent in your device and to what service center did you guys sent it in? My phone has working Netflix L1 playback only when I have my bootloader locked... (sorry for late reply but none of you quoted/mentioned me)
Send me your phone setup if possible too.

I never sent my op5 to OnePlus support.
My bootloader is unlocked and my op5 is rooted, I can watch movies on netflix.

Oh geez, ofc you can because you do not have L1 / HD playback for that you have to send your device to a service center where they'll perform an upgrade that explains why you can... I can watch in L3 / SD quality too, I just have to disable liboemcrypto.so

I don't need the FHD for Netflix on my OP5, better to watch on computer or TV.

I prefer to keep my phone rooted.

Hey guys, specially @harpin14789 could you check what resolution are u getting? cos i also got my phone fixed at the texas repair center (Acer thing) and I cant reach 1080p, my internet speed is high enough to get FullHD (in fact i can watch in 4K on my TV), but when i ran the "test patterns" i get stuck at 1280x720 could you test with them and see if you get 1080p? cos now i can watch HD but not Full HD!

I am also only getting 720p on Netflix.
And Amazon will only allow SD.

Now a other problem so that apparently Netflix pushed a new Patch where if your bootloader is unlocked the app itself won't work. And recently I'm seeing that the Netflix app is just force closing or just I get the -9 error where it says Netflix can't connect to it's servers.

One way to fix this is a magisk module called liboemcrypto disabler which will make Netflix run but will make it think the device is L3 so no more HD.

Are u sure coz i have Netflix updated and and unlocked bootloader and i get no such error.. May be u r behind a vpn

Yeah well that ruins the point, of course I can get Netflix running on an unlocked BL with L3 and no L1 upgrade.
I've explained this to another person earlier in the thread, go a few pages back.

Widewine l1 support is provided by an ota update to the poco f1. This article clearly states that it should be possible for oneplus to do the same. Hoping for wildewine l1 support in the upcoming builds.

I wouldn't get my hopes up as we're almost at that 2 year mark where oneplus doesn't have to update op5/t anymore, hopefully I'm wrong but I'm not that confident in them doing so

Same here. Additionally, it was the second time (Treble and Widevine) as OnePlus lied to us obviously that something isn't possible to be done via OTA.

If you're rooted, you won't be able to use L1 in streaming anyway.
