I use a JL clean sweep to switch from the nexus 7 audio to a parrot bluethooth hands free kit when a call comes in. I originally intended to use the parrot unit as a pre amp. But the but the line level outputs created a ton of noise. I used it as a pre amp via bluethooth from the nexus 7 but again, audio quality suffered. The clean sweep has been the best sounding solution so far

Interesting thread. I have installed a Samsung Tab in my car. I had earlier installed a screen for purposes of backup camera and videos through HDD player. Now I have been wondering whether its possible to use the tab as a reversing camera and do away with the second screen. Looks like this is only possible with Nexus 7 because of the custom kernel.

Recently I came across the Sony DSC QX 10 wifi camera lens which I think might just solve my problems as you can use it with any android device and anywhere within the wifi range. http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Smartphone-Attachable-4-45-44-5mm-Lens-Style/dp/B00EVIJX1Y/ref=pd_sim_p_5

I know this would be an overkill and also expensive but one can mount it in such a way that you can always remove it and use it as a camera attachment to take pictures whenever necessary. This would work not just as a reversing camera but probably even as a recorder in front end where you can place it anywhere and control it with the in-dash android tab.....

Kitkat Car Mode

I will be trying the same thing but as a semi fixed install. I want it to be as integrated as possible when it's attached to my cars dashboard but I also want to be able to just unplug the USB and bring it as a tablet if needed. And as a tablet I want it to run an updated version of Android, so my solution is to try the Kangaroo kernel, which is using a lot of Timurs code, but making it for newer versions of Android. Also it's ROM independent since it's just a kernel. Doesn't have all the nice features of USBROM, but usbhost, fixed install mode, DAC, remarried cam support and fastcharging seems to work already!

Have a look:

Thanks for this thread, it helped greatly. Here's my current setup's diagram. Still waiting on a couple more parts but aside from a small ground issue it works perfectly

Is it a 2 amp charger? Is it enough to run the N7 and the hub or are you planning to have the hub externally powered?

It's a 2-port with a shared 4.2 amps. I haven't had an issue powering everything while maintaining a charge.

It's a cheapo Amazon brand 4-port which isn't externally powered but like I said, no issues with charging. I'm considering using one of my spare 1TB 2.5in HDDs for music/movies/tv. That might cause an issue with power but I'll give it a shot when my parts arrive and report back.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the 2-port cig lighter plug is mounted behind the dash. I split the lighter wiring so it looks clean on the center console and you can still use a cig lighter or a plug-in charger which I use to charge my GS3

Nice! So you have a cable coming out of the dash to the N7 or do you use a dash mounted female USB? Where is your hub located? Glove box?

What app do you run for the backup camera and does it auto launch when you go in reverse?

The N7 is 'hard-mounted'

I could pull the trim off fairly quickly but it's neatly mounted in there for day-to-day use. Everything is mounted right behind the N7, removing the head unit and storage pocket leaves a ton of space :)

I'm using "simplewebcam" for the backup cam. Once I open it, it displays the rear cam instantly. I can't figure out how to make it open automatically when placing the car into "R" but it still works as is. This both sucks and is kinda ok. It sucks since I still need to press the camera icon when going in reverse and it's kinda ok because (if I can work out a way) I could use it as a dash-cam, skype while driving, ect...

Heres a daytime pic of what i've got so far. Mind the out of focus and the McDonalds bag :)

Wow, cool! Did you try the Carcam app? I think it autostarts when it receives a video signal. And then you hook up your camera to the reverse lights. But if you have a slow starting camera it could be useless.

Do you know if Tasker can take input from an OBD2 adapter? Then you could start the app by having Tasker launch it when the OBD2 adapter says the car is in reverse..

I'm almost positive that Tasker can't launch from an OBD signal but look into it.

The reverse lights idea is a good one though. I could wire the webcam's power to turn on with a relay signal when the lights come on. Then use tasker to load SimpleWebCam upon detection of the camera. I'm just not sure if I can choose the webcam as specifically as a tasker trigger.

I have mounted a nexus in my dash pics here but my gps singnal is bad because the nexus is so deep in the dash. Do you have any ideas to make the singnal stronger for the nexus. Thanx

Nice installs from you to!:)
