I guess I'm not following how you are going from the charging cable to the pogo connections. Are you cutting the wire up? My plan was to use an offboard power supply that has a 5v 2A output and connect it to some pogo pins mounted in the bottom of the dash kit. If it isn't going to work I don't want to order the parts from Digikey.
Ah right, well i took a micro USB -> usb male cable and chopped off the micro end and bared the wires, tinned them with a soldering iron so the strands stay together and then touch them on the pogo connections.

If i ever get it working then i will buy the pogo pins from digikey and build them into the dash

also, just found this: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/30615-can-you-charge-usb-host-mode-simultaneously/page__st__10
looks promising

Ah, I see. Did you get it to work when the USB wasn't plugged in and then it wouldn't work after the USB OTG was plugged in? Im just wondering with it being so picky if the multiple connections and extra length are playing havoc with it.

Also, have you tried a line driver to help you eliminate the noise you seem to be getting? My build plan has an AudioControl Matrix to boost the signal before pushing it to the amps. I haven't tested it but I think the voltage coming out of the 3.5mm jack is REALLY low and that might be causing you to pick up noise along the way.

I posted a comment on your blog, but I am wondering. Could you show me how you installed your tablet behind the bezel in your subaru? I am thinking about taking out my DVD unit in my Forester and doing the same thing you have done, my only thing it that I would like to have it be removable.. I am still trying to figure out how to make that work..

Last thing is how are you running your audio to your speakers? You have an Amp mounted somewhere that you connect to the tablet?

Thanks!

Hey,

I've updated the blog to show you how i did it. It is reasonably easy to remove, that dash panel just pops off in 2 seconds and the tablet can then be removed.

As for audio, at the moment its going from the headphone jack to my amps in the boot but i have a USB DAC and a DSP to bring up the audio quality as soon as I/someone work out the usb host mode + charging issue.

Cheers

Are you using a replacement dash unit? I've got the same car from the same year but a UK model. I have a row of switches (turbo water spray, headlamp wash, clock dimmer) and a single din stereo slot. I was looking for a way of doing this type of thing but couldn't find a suitable double din dash unit

Hmm looks like your method would work.. I am thinking about going to a junk yard and pulling one of those Bezels from another forester and try and see if I cant do some cutting and fab work to make some kind of system so I could take the tablet in and out easier.. I am not hip to having to pop the whole bezel every time I want to use the tablet..

OP,

Did you ever solve your grounding issue. Have you tried grounding the RCA's? I can't post links at this time but google "how to ground rca" and check out the realmofexcursion thread. Should be lots of examples out there.

Secondly, any luck with the pogo pins and usb connection being used at the same time?

another edit: there seems to be a thread on the charging issues... i have also just found that my tab drains it's battery faster than it can charge it... I'll have to look into this further: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1791717

comrade, are you using a 1000mah charger. anything less will not charge and run even a phone screen .

TATA
Mine drained the battery too fast aswell.. even using several different types of 2.1A charger...

my tab is getting sent back to google for replacement as the USB port has stopped working...

on/off button

very interesting, but as a Nx7 owner....
I'm wondering how you solve the on/off button probem, this is rear, unreachable.
I've tried some wake up sofware and it works pretty bad.
(turn off software make the job)
