OP, just a quick question,

I bought a voltage regulator to change the 12V to 5V, 3A and have soldered the red and black power cables from my micro usb plug to the appropriate cables on the regulator. However, when I go ahead and connect the regulator to a 12V power source, it doesn't seem to charge my phone. Do I need to trickle charge the two middle data cables in the micro USB plug?
You need to connect the other 2 wires together, I believe green and white (data wires). Some phones look for this connection before charging. I know my original droid did.

Cheers for the reply

So I just join the two data negative and data positive together? Do I need to connect them to the power source at all?

Thanks for that,

another issue, I tried externally powering the usb hub, power goes through to the hub, however the hub nor any USBs plugged into the hub does not get detected on the Nexus 7.

The way I have it wired:

Here is a ROUGH diagram

Do I need a red and black power cable from the nexus to the hub?
Humm its been awhile but I think you need the grounds to be connected together with the nexus 7.

So take your hub ground and put it with the ground for the tablet
Kinda like this

Hi, I have finaly buy Nexus 7 for in car instalation...
the thing is that it have came with android 4.4.2

i have speand last couple day's trying to install USB ROM with TWRP with no luck
now I manege to do that with CWM

but just got plain system without google aps...

the other thing is that on my nexus with 4.4.2. I have problem with volume control, which is going down (-), but no up (+)

so I belive that it's 4.4.2 problem...

my question is ;

is this USB ROM working on 4.4.2 ?
if not, could someone point me where to look how to roll back to 4.2.2 (or some other version so I can get this thing to work ;))

1. Without "root", uvc webcam can work on Nexus7 as the below conditions.

a. New version NEXUS 7 (2013)

b. Android 4.3 version only!

c.download free apk " dashcam" from Google Play.

you can see more video live demo on NEXUS7 with UVC device.

please search " febon android 4.3 nexus7" in Google

2. With "root", UVC webcam can work on NEXUS7 android 4.4 version.

You can see the description of "dashcam"

DVB-T Antenna

I'm still curious to know if anyone has found an adapter for the factory antenna to connect it to the DVB-T dongle.

I'm getting all of my parts in line for this install (also in a TB) but that seems to be about the only thing I cannot answer.
I've researched the MCX connector that the DVB-T has on it, but I cannot seem to find an solution to this problem.

Anyone figured this out? Or is everyone that's using a DVB-T using the included mag mount antenna?

Thanks for the inspiration of this build!

EDIT: After thinking more outside of the box, I think I have found a solution to this.

eBay search: GOLD PLATED MCX MALE TO BNC FEMALE CONNECTOR ADAPTER COAX CABLE ANTENNA USA - will snap into the DVB-T
eBay search: MOTOROLA FEMALE JACK to BNC MALE PLUG Adaptor Connector - will connect to the oem antenna.

I will post my results as soon as the come in.

DVB-T not recognized

I was just about to suggest what you figured out on your own. I connected my car antenna using the same parts and it works much better than the small one the DVB-T tuner came with.
I finally got USB ROM flashed to my tablet, but now it wont recognize the DVB-T through my OTG cable. It works perfectly on my Note 3, is there some setting that I'm missing in the rom? When I try to turn on SDR Touch, it just give me the popup window Device Chooser with the option Use root access. I have granted SU persmission, just not sure why it's not working.

I tested it before flashing the rom, on Stock N7 and it worked like a champ..

Any ideas????

Thank you!

EDIT: The DVB-T does work with other apps like glSDR and Pocket RXTX with the exact same cable. I'm hoping I just missed something in the setup.

Well ever since Kookie_Monster gave me the idea of a custom UI I've been playing around in Photoshop. This is what I have so far, might make a few changes still though!

This is an old picture, I now have things a little more aligned.

I was wondering what app you used so you could put invisible shortcuts over the image?

Any way of making the icon bigger since the wallpaper button is rather large?

Also, I don't know what to google to find the solution, but have read it multiple times through the forums, I want my nexus 7 to turn on automatically after the battery is dead and gets a charge.

Enter the following fastboot command, and the device will turn on automatically upon charge. Works great in my setup!

fastboot oem off-mode-charge 0

How did you manage to turn the amplifier on and off with ignition?

Or could you generally explain, when the amplifier is turned on and off because I don't know how to manage the fact, that it consumes too much power to stay on all the time. For the tablet it is not necessary to turn it off as it wouldn't drain the battery anytime soon but the amplifier is a different matter.

Thanks in advance

Amplifiers have a remote on/off connection... connect it to a 12v wire that turns on and off with the ignition switch (key). Most people use the 12v switched wire in the original factory radio wiring harness.

How about volume up/down, and media buttons?
Personally I have the navigation/status bar hidden. I set up a series of gestures using GMD Gesture Control. For example, 3-finger swipe down simulates the back button, 4-finger pinch is Home, 2-finger swipe to the right starting at the bottom-left 1/3 of the screen is the Menu button, 2-finger swipe to the right starting at the bottom-left 2/3 of the screen is the Recent Applications button, 3-finger swipe up is the Reboot Menu, 3-finger pinch operates a play/pause toggle I set up through Tasker, 2 fingers rotating clockwise is Next Song, 2 fingers rotating counter-clockwise is Previous Song, etc.

My setup uses an in-dash equalizer in place of the ash tray where I control volume and what-not. Though you could set up a gesture for it, like 3-fingers up is volume up and 3-fingers down is volume down, for example.

I turn my amplifiers on/off with the same signal that powers the tablet. It's basically an ignition-switch source, that turns on with the key-ON.

Currently, i've got the same setup. However, i hear a loud popping noise when the ignition is switched on. When the N7 gets powered first, and the amp sometime later, everything's just fine. Got an idea what's the problem here?
