im buying this wire harness for my ss PAC OS-2C-BOSE OnStar Radio Replacement Interface. how do i hook it up to the nexus 7? i know via 3.5mm to rca but do will there be leftover wires on the wire harness? would i just hard wire the speakers to rca female and hook the male end from the 3.5 to rca thats in the tablet to that? would this affect my remote start and keep everything in the car working right? the people at best buy was tell me that i had to have their harness bc it would keep the car running if i didnt it would do crazy things to the car like only 4 cylinders working chimes and lights on the dash would go off etc.... just trying to make sure i do everything right thanks in advance

Well first of all I dont think that is the correct harness for an 08 impala with bose. It looks like either PAC RP4-GM31 or GMOS-LAN-02. Looks like only the GMOS-LAN-02 supports onstar but I could be wrong.

Personally I would buy a new amp and speakers because working the the bose system is not going to be fun.
You might be able to run something like this LINK but I'm not sure that will really work.
This is why I ditched the bose! because it was less complicated and I also wanted better audio!

ok so if i get a new amp leave factory speakers in how would it be hooked up?
Unfortunately you can wire up Bose speakers to an aftermarket amp.

Now if you had an aftermarket amp and speakers you would hook up the tablet to the amp either via 3.5mm to rca or a USB DAC to rca.
Are you sure your up for this? There's not really an easy way to make your tablet a dedicated head unit!

I just wanted to say thank you for all the information in this post. I am getting a new car in a month, a 97 Lincoln Mark VIII with factory bose stereo system, and i am planning to make my nexus 7 replace the headunit. I'm on a bit of a tight budget so I'm going to attempt to keep my factory amp if at all possible, not only to make installation easier, but so i don't have to separately amplify all 8 speakers with aftermarket amplifiers. Thanks to some of the stuff you posted on here, it's going to make my installation much easier. I plan to use an IOIO board to control the sleep function, that way it can always have power, but still come on and off with the car. The other idea behind that board is to control certain aspects of the car via custom program in android, but it could also be useful to trigger events for your install. You could have it automatically launch the program you use with the reverse cam when it senses you are in reverse, then hit the home button when you shift out of reverse. I'm in a computer science course in college, so i think this would be good exercise. I'm really glad you posted up all the information about the kernals and stuff you used, because i really wanted to use a USB DAC for my audio out instead of a headphone jack. A few questions though. My nexus is completely factory for now, and plugging any storage devices into the OTG makes it freeze, is this common and your aftermarket kernel fixed it, or am i just doing something wrong? Does it not get unstable at all after a long time of having all that stuff plugged into it?

If this is helpful to anyone, i lurk around a few carputer forums, and most of the people i see with premium sound systems (with factory amp) end up running their own wiring to the factory speakers (or aftermarket replacements) if they want to use them with a different amp, just so they dont have to go through the trouble of trying to bypass/interface the factory amp. They have to run their own crossovers, or an equalizer or something, and such to make the sound decent though. If i cant get mine working, that's what i will be doing.

Hi there, awesome job on the project.

I am waiting for my nexus7 to arrive as a replacement for gps unit which i broke. Im just gonna use simple vent mount.

One thing i am researching right now and having a hard time is figuring out if it possible to use rds-tmc fm traffic info on android with a map app? there are micro usb recievers for that but no apps to use them so far? are there any hacks for that?

Also what is a good rom/mod/apps for usage as a gps/car computer primarily?

That is weird checkout Timurs new kernal or maybe even his new roms!!! LINK Hopfully that will fix your issues.

The joycon is connected to a hub in the dash. the joycon also taps into my steering controls.

Using the joycon software on your laptop you set up each button as a key using the virtual keyboard in their software. If the key you want isn't available you need to set it as a key you will remember and edit that keys action in the keylayout file.
Didn't lose any special features and there is no reason you should... that I can think of anyways.

Ehh don't think theres really any special recievers, but i could be wrong. Many gps software have traffic updates built in, some do cost extra though.

Defiantly check out Timurs new rom for sure if not at least his kernel. LINK

This would be super helpful
I'll try and do it sometime next week.

What usb hub did you use?
I'm using an amazon hub modified for external power. LINK
But I ran out of ports so I am also adding another one which will also be externally powered. LINK

Well apparently with Timur's new ROM people are reporting the internal mic works with a DAC connected.
Its only a matter of time till someone has an external mic working.
I can not say for sure that it works due to some complications with my DAC and Timur's ROM that we are trying to work out.
