make a local.prop file instead in the data folder, works without root

---------- Post added at 04:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:23 PM ----------

don't know if I put the file into some wrong folder - but it didn't work for me when puttin the file into /system Whereas the edited build.prop works as a charme.

It does work, you need to put the file in /data - so /data/local.prop - in the end, the result is the same - just a little safer using local.prop since you don't need to mess with build.prop, which can cause issues if edited incorrectly...

Landscape has much more advantages. Portrait sucks and not natural with my thumbs. In landscape mode my thumbs cover more of the screen.

Nova Launcher

I use nova launcher for this..

I hate the Dock bar.. It looks so wrong on a tablet.. especially if you do use the home screens in landscape mode where it will turn the dock on its side.. Bad idea google....

Anyway nova has settings to turn rotation on and TURN OFF The dock

I to find myself using this tablet out of landscape mode for the most part . other then a few apps ...

I don't know why people are asking about screen rotation on home screen. This tablet was designed to use in portrait mode mostly and this is how it would be best utilitized. Anyways, this is personal choice but try to use to the tablet in portrait mode and you would soon start to appreciate what Google was trying to do here with the interface.

This brings to mind a famous quote...
"You're holding it wrong" :p

or, if you have root, you can just add this one line to the bottom of your build.prop file and reboot..

launcher.force_enable_rotation=true
Won't work without root.
Or which data folder do you mean?

When using the build.prop method, there is some space unused in the homescreen where you cant place apps or widgets. I think this could be changed with some more modification of the build.prop. Any one has noticed that or fixed it yet? Or is this just in combination with original tablet ui fix

I did not root my nexus7, and cannot access the /data directory.
Also, if I try to create a file in /data dir, it will be failed.

Have you tried to create the file? If so, what happens? I'm honestly not sure if you need root or not, but can't hurt to try...
