Just wanted to say thanks to the OP. You did a great job at getting a side by side comparison. I was really considering getting the vibrant, but seeing this kinda sways me to just wait till something better comes along. I'll stick to my nexus one for now.

Those Captivate pictures seem terribly washed out to compensate for the idiotic lack of an led flash :(
I was thinking the same thing, but the flower shot is a toss up. The shot in the sunlight was horrible, and the inside shot in light was also horrible. The camera on the captivate has a TON of options you can play with, I'm guessing there is something I could do to try and get a better shot outside.
Still, your average user is gonna do what I did, auto everything for a quick photo.

Just shot a video with the phone for everyone, man it looks GOOD. Uploading now... Ok its up. Give it time to process for the 720p version to show up.

wow these were some great videos. by far these are better than all other "comparison" videos i see on the web. most poeple just dont do the things i wanna see when they make a video.

anyway, after seeing this i still am happy with the nexus, and it matches pretty closely. but the ONE place that showed how much better the samsung is in the first video when he loaded the full engadget site, and pinch to zoom and scrolling up and down. that GPU really was making it smoother. granted engadget is a huge site, and the nexus may have had flash 10.1 while the samsung did not.

Thanks OP

My dad just bought one and I like it.
Still not sure if I like it more than my N1, however (leofroyo 1.2)
No trackball and no led are drawbacks, but beautiful super amoled 4" screen, tv out, and native 720p recording are huge pluses. If I start seeing options for customs roms like we have with the nexus, I might have to get one myself :)

Thanks OP. The vid was great. I had recently just recieved an N1 as an upgrade from a G1. Was worried I made the wrong choice. You're video relaxed me a lot. Happy with the N1 to hold me over for awhile.

Also you might want to pull the vid off you tube and edit out mandy's ph#

I also want to thank the OP for this thread and your work. It is threads like these that make it so much fun! It's nice to know there is something decent for us ATT lifers when it's finally time to hang up the Nexus.

I'd much rather have a Nexus 2 tho! Anyway, great comparison!!

The Sammy looks like a great phone. Apps seem to load a bit faster. I can't see going from a Nexus one to that though, unless I either lost my nexus or was somehow forced to buy a new phone.

First time users or people looking to upgrade from crappy phones... yea Sammy all the way.

captivate photos are over exposed, its an easy fix in settings. In less then ideal conditions, galaxy's camera will win easy

the camera on the galaxy is NOT as good as the N1...my dad just got the galaxy (vibrant) and ive been testing the camera against my N1 and it just doesnt have the amount of detail as the N1. N1 camera is more detailed and sharper. more noise on the galaxy unfortunately

You must have it on the wrong setting for the picture type and scene mode.

After updating my N1 to Froyo, i noticed a huge speed boost.
In your opinion, is the Galaxy S as fast as N1 with Froyo?
I wanna buy the new samsung phone for the bigger screen, superamoled, dedicated GPu and wonderful touch/multitouch.
But of course, i don't want to jump back in terms of performance (related on everyday tasks..call, message, browsing etc)
Thanks :)

Galaxy is actually faster than N1 even with 2.1 Eclaire. The speeds going to blow everything out of the water once it updates to 2.2. The N1 is a nice phone but it is what it is. Currently, the SGS is the most powerful handset one can lay their hands on. Come join us ^_^

Some new really lame developments, my GPS isn't working much anymore.

After sitting for 15 minutes.

Ok, after some playing around with settings, and editing a config file, I was able to get a good lock acccurate to within 5m next to my window. I haven't tried navigation with the Capivate yet, gonna go try that now...
