The 9.0 build poped-up in the mokee centre. Has anyone tried to update it through the mokee centre? The 9.0 update shows as incremental so probably it could autoupdate similarly to the 8.1 builds?

When updating useing OTA mechanism from Oreo to Pie on a modified system, you need to be aware of several important principles.

To avoid issues with the ROM upgrade,

Magisk should be uninstalled and modules.
Xposed should be uninstalled and modules.

Dirty flash (system @ system) should go succesfull and save your data and settings.
A clean install is not required by following what I have written.

Thanks for the information! Will it also work if Gapps are installed?

This is also my question. I tried downloading the 9.0 version through the mokee centre but there is a verification error everytime i try and download it. So if i try and dirty flash the rom should i also flash the 9.0 gapps? So first clear dalvik/cache -> then dirty flash 9.0 rom and 9.0 gapps? In this case will all the data be preserved?

Installed the 9.0 version with a a clean install. Everything works great. With magisk and the right module you can certify the playstore and install Netflix. The only thing I didn't manage to do was to activate the device encryption. When I tried that it just reboots when you try to enter your password pattern. I had to format the data partition to fix it. I don't know if it has to do with twrp version Im using. Did it work for anyone else?

When installing the OTA update, the partition / system will be overwritten, this also applies to Gapps. You must reinstall them. I recommend the Pico or Nano version.
From what I know, Aroma installer (Aroma Gapps) has a problem with acting on Pie, so it's better not to use it.
The rest of the Gapps should be simply installed from the G store.
Just do a dirty flash and then install (basic) Gapps.
Wipe Cache / Dalvik is the recommended action after every update.

Actually Gapps persists after ota or dirty flash of the rom. Btw I recommend to flash the full rom because ota update took me 10% battery and 30mins of my time, flashing the full rom is faster and preserve battery (at least for now).
