I've been using the stock non-rooted JB 4.1.2 for the last 4 months and overall pretyy happy with it. Yesterday I decided to take CM 10.1 for a spin with the latest nightly.

Overall impressions from a CM10.1 newbee:

- interface speed: I do not spend much time scrolling in the interface but a subjective opinion it "feels ok". Stock JB was "buttery smooth" while cm 10.1 felt "more high performance ICS".
- Shadowgun Deadzone and Blitzbrigade seem to play smoother ( maybe is only placebo)
- overall app performace / browsing / google currents is very good (better than stock but again maybe placebo)
- the new 4.2.2 tablet interface is easy to adjust to but the notification center (the one with quicksetting) looks a bit hand-made (not so polished)
- overall stock interface looks more polished while CM 10.1 is more "clean"

For sure I will continue to use CM10.1 for the time being. I need to find a "Galery" which syncs with Picasa than I am done.

Thanks again for the hard work in CM 10.1

Thanks

Robert

Tty setting the screen sensitivity in advanced settings to highest. Infinitely better! One of my gripes about stock was the screen stabbingly atrocious screen responsiveness. With CM on highest setting, screen is fine for me.

he was talking about the responsiveness of the interface/UI which is more smooth in 4.1.1.
You can notice that when navigating through the homescreen and drawer, which seems a little bit more choppy in CM 10.1.
It can be optimized by removing uneccessary hardware layers.

The nightly from the 22-07-2013 had this problem on most devices but the latest nightly is fine for me. Is it possible to go back to the last working RC/ nightly then update straight to the latest once confirmed that it's working?

Yesterday. I was flash cm-10.1-20130727-NIGHTLY-a700.zip build from cm-10.1.0-a700.zip build.
I think Sleep of Death (SOD) occur again.
I did factory reset and format system before flash.

Anyone else?

Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app

I was on 20130725 and now i'm on 20130731. Both nightlies didn't have problems.

When i install flash (modded one from xda) the brower starts freezing after some use.

Another question, do you have some info about the SElinux update? Only activated trough init.d? Or aslo a buttun in settings?

I'm also a bit confused regarding the different branches, there's 10.1 -10.1.0 - 10.1.2 what is the difference, in the change logs i couldn't find a big difference

SELinux is not activated in normal builds for 10.1, a special flag must be set when building. SELinux will be activated in permissive mode in 10.2.

10.1 - Main branch based on Android 4.2
10.1.0 - 10.1.2 - Stable releases (forked from the main branch a certain period before the release)

Hi,

As far as I have read this thread, I didn't see any mean to use a file system that support big files on the external SD. (read/write)

ExFat is not supported and if the kernel is changed it won't work anyway because of some CM RamDisk mgmt.
Ext 2/3 difficult to deal with when you use windows.
NTFS : read only ... I've tried.. didn't mount my card.

It would be great to have exFat support, can we dream of it ? Or it'll never happen ?

Which file system may work ?

Thanks,
Seb

Hello, I have since the latest RC1 and 2 releases sometimes a loop boot. Not each time. I found out when the tablet is cold, it start directly, when I reboot (that mean in a warm state) then loop boot.

Please connect your tablet to a PC while it's looping and get a logcat.

Hi Pawitp,

I've tried yesterday evening to adb logcat my tablet, but on both PC (Win 8 x64) I have the device offline. I'am able to transfer file as it's connected as media device. The USB Debugging is on, I didn't yet find a solution. Have you an idea?

In the same time, my a700 was powered up all the evening without WLAN, and has not crashed. A short time after Power ON WLAN, bing bang bong crash and loop boot... The loop boot is on the Acer Logo.

UPDATE: adb works now, I have to set the media connected as Camera (PTP), not as Media Device (MTP).
locgat is running now...

... 3 hours logcat without crash!... 2 days of logcat without crash!

I think I have found the troublemaker, shortly before I have started the logcat, I have uninstalled "WLAN Manager"... Of course I will make more tests to be sure that my a700 works now stable.

Please connect your tablet to a PC while it's looping and get a logcat.

Newbie needs help.
I am an Android Noob & rooting & using custom Roms complete Noob.
I have the Acer A700 running stock 4.1.1
I have unlocked the boot-loader & rooted it.
I need to install CWM recovery backup still & install the custom rom of course.

QUESTION: I want to use cm 10.1.2 stable build I can use this Rom correct? What confuses me is in the title it says 4.2.2. There is no more OTA updates available on the tablet.

I have been using a youtube video for help but it is for installing iconiaN 2.6. I can't post it cause I am a noob. It's the only one I saw for the a700 from LASERWOLF452. It has horrible video but this is what I have been watching.

QUESTION: Are the install instructions the same? (except pointing it to the right rom of course)

The instructions from the youtube video for the iconiaN 2.6 are as follows in a nutshell.

step 1. download the recovery backup

step 2. download the IconiaN ROM from Vorbeth (I will use the cm 10.1.2 stable build)

step 3. PUT BOTH FILES IN EXTERNAL SD CARD

step 4: open ADB and type "adb reboot-bootloader"
device will be loaded into fastboot

step 5. if u downloaded the standard CWM (non-touch)
type "fastboot flash recovery recovery-a700-6015.img"

for touch version
type "fastboot flash recovery recovery-a700-6015-touch.img" (I was going to use the touch version)

step 6. when successful press and hold power button till device shuts down then turn it on, let it boot into the OS

step 7. type adb reboot recovery

step 8. go to back up and restore then chose backup

step 9. after back up go back, click wipe cache Partition

step 10. go to advanced and click wipe dalvik cache and click go back

step 11. click on wipe data/factory reset

step 12. click install zip from sd card/chose zip from external sd card/ then click on iconiaN-acer-a700-2.6.zip (again I will use cm 10.1.2 stable build)

step 13. follow the onscreen instructions (please note) when u are done installing the rom and device boots in it be in a different language just set it to English (top selection area) and that u are in the US (bottom selection area) then hit next

Just need a little confirmation that I can use this and follow these directions so hopefully I don't brick my device.

Question: In this thread it says "Optionally install the Google Addon" Will this be during or after the new rom install?

Thanks

    CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

    WARNING: I've bricked my tablet into APX mode around the 10th time of flashing this ROM (recovery froze and it rebooted into APX). The new (Update 1) recovery should be safer than the old one, but flash at your own risk!

    Code:
    #include
    /*
     * Your warranty is now void.
     *
     * I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
     * thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
     * do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
     * before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
     * you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
     */

    CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

    All the source code for CyanogenMod is available in the CyanogenMod Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to CyanogenMod, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

    Device-specific source code for the Acer A700 are available from https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_acer_a700 and https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_kernel_acer_t30

    Do not submit bug on CyanogenMod issue tracker

    Downloads
    Latest Nightly: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=a700
    Google Apps: http://goo.im/gapps

    Installation
    1. Install CWM recovery from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1791165 (note that the old touch version will not work because of incorrect default.prop from CWM builder)
    2. Do a Nandroid Backup!
    3. Install the ROM using ClockworkMod Recovery
    4. Optionally install the Google Addon
    5. Wipe data if coming from stock

    Changelog
    A rough changelog is (will be) available here:
    http://changelog.bbqdroid.org/#/cm10.1/a700 or http://10.1.cmxlog.com/?device=a700

    Reporting Bugs

    You are allowed to report bugs only in this thread.

    • Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
    • If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
    Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. The following is a useful format to follow.

    Code:
    What is your--
    Phone model:
    Radio (baseband):
    CM version:
    CM Download url:
    Gapps version:

    Did you--
    wipe:
     restore with titanium backup:
    reboot after having the issue:

    Are you using--
    a task killer:
    a non-stock kernel:
    CMSettings/Performance settings (other than stock):
    other modifications:

    Provide any additional information (observations/frequency of problem/last version it worked on/etc) as needed:

    The CyanogenMod team would like to thank everyone involved in helping with testing, coding, debugging & documenting! Enjoy!

    Note to Official JB Users

    Jelly Bean bootloader is only supported on 201212023-EXEPRIMENTAL and later NIGHTLIES.

    @pawitp Is Cyanogenmod 10.2 (Android 4.3) realistic for our a700?

    Sent from my rooted Acer Iconia A700 running IconiaN with Tapatalk HD

    It'll probably eventually get it. I just don't have the free time right now to port it.

    Re: [NIGHTLY][ROM][4.2.1] CyanogenMod 10.1 for Acer A700

    I'm aware of that. did you already tried it and how does it look? does the image gets upscaled and filtered or how?

    Run this from adb shell or root terminal

    Code:
    am display-size 1200x800
    am display-density 160

    Then reboot. Use this to restore original setting.

    Code:
    am display-size reset
    am display-density reset

    Thank you for the logcat! I've triggered a test build with the fix. Please test if it works or not.

    Has anyone had success tethering to a phone? I've tried tethering my A700 to my GT-i9300 both running cm10.1 and though they connect using Wi-Fi hotspot and bluetooth tethering, internet only works when the i9300 is using Wi-Fi from my router. If my i9300 is on data and I try to open a browser or internet reliant app like Facebook, Gmail etc., on the A700, it tries to load unsuccessfully. I know others on the i9300 cm10.1 discussion thread have had success with other tablets. I couldn't find a tethering setting when on stock (A700) but would expect it to work if it works when my phone has a Wi-Fi connection to my router!

    I tether from my Galaxy S1 just fine. Have you tried your accessing I9300's internet from another device (e.g. laptop) to verify that it is indeed providing a connection?

    Has anyone tried LagFix/FStrim on their device running this version of CM? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grilledmonkeydonate.lagfix&hl=en

    As a side note, any idea if it is possible, in the works, etc to get TWRP working on our device? Is it possible or easy to port it? I find it more user friendly for flashing the nightlies along with the Chrome Desktop patch, Sony Certificate Installer etc that I do along with every update.

    FStrim will have no effect on our device since I've disabled TRIM support within the kernel, as it is this command that causes bricks on our device. (There is a bug in Samsung's EMMC firmware.)

    Porting TWRP should be fairly easy to do.

    EDIT: Attached. Not creating a new thread for this since I won't really be supporting it.

    Code:
    DEVICE_RESOLUTION := 1920x1200
    RECOVERY_SDCARD_ON_DATA := true
    TW_INTERNAL_STORAGE_PATH := "/data/media"
    TW_INTERNAL_STORAGE_MOUNT_POINT := "data"
    TW_EXTERNAL_STORAGE_PATH := "/external_sd"
    TW_EXTERNAL_STORAGE_MOUNT_POINT := "external_sd"
