Does anyone know or have access to how these codes work?

I bought my 800 unlocked from a 3UK store and don't want it locking to that network as I use a different carrier. I would have thought there were generic codes for non-carrier versions....

Thanks,
They are just a way for Nokia Care and stores to quickly recocgnize what device it is etc. For example Lumia 800 that I have is 059J3G0. And 059JXXX are European Nokia Default Transceiver devices which means they're just like normal devices for EU region that are sold everywhere.

So you might be able to install a different variant OS version, but be still careful and use commons sense! The latest 3 UK version is 7.5 Refresh (8773).
You could probably install this one, but check all the details first:
Code: 059L7C2
Variant: RM-801 VAR EURO1 GB CV MBLACK - Not operator specific?
OS: 1750.0823.8858.12460

The stuff I installed was this:
Code: 059N341 - doesn't matter, same hardware
Variant: RM-801 VAR FINLAND FI CV MBLACK - normal variant for Finland matte blacks
OS: 1750.0823.8858.12460 - 7.8 RTM

Thanks a lot for the instructions!

@Kanttii - thanks, that's pretty much what I thought anyway and have downloaded the generic EURO Matt Black variant.

I searched not on the code but on GB in the Variant search box and it came up with all suitable GB versions for the carriers and generic Euro (colour-specific) versions.

The Problem I have is that the Care Tool recognises the phone but when I hit Start to push the new ROM and get asked to remove the usb cable, power off and re-insert the usb cable whilst holding Volume Up key, nothing happens and eventually the phone reboots. Any ideas on which drivers it uses as I can probably remove the others....

Thanks,

Thanks, done that but I do think it could be a firmware issue on the phone. This was updated to 7.5 very early and the frmware changed at the same time. I don't think the volume up button is the correct one.

I've tried volume down and power+volume up/volume down (the lattercombo just puts it into Download Mode and that doesn't help either.

I'll keep trying though....

No matter what I do, Nokia Care Suite will NOT recognize my phone. Fuse does - it shows it as a connected device - Nokia Care Suite will not though. This is extremely frustrating. I've installed the USB drivers, etc.

This worked great up until it showed me a really old WP7.5 rom as being the latest for my phone :)

Looks like I have RM-819_NAM_US_CV_VAR191243_MAGENTA_V1 whatever that means.
It means your magenta Lumia 800 is an unbranded retail US variant.

And it is pretty lame that NCS doesn't have a Tango ROM for this one yet.

Many thanks to the OP for this ... following his guide & location for a safe Nokia Care Suite my upgrade on a Lumia 800 (CV EURO / Unlocked) went real smooth, even smoother than the OP on Windows 8 XP, the drivers went in nice, PST even auto-detected the correct phone variant type without the need to enter it in & even told me (by clicking top right for 'read phone information automatically') that my software was out of date, it was a one click download for the auto-chosen correct firmware and and auto-reboot & flash when it downloaded ... nice & easy, just as the OP said it would be, Kudos my friend :cyclops:

Hi folks, my Lumia 800 is currently locked to T-Mobile/Orange/EE (Code 059L7H0) and I want to unlock it. I flashed 059L7C2 which is a Euro CV firmware using oobritoo's instruction (Thanks a million for the instructions :good:) but it was still locked to the same network and shows the original product code in Nokia Care Suite.

I'm trying to change it to GB Three (H3G) network, any ideas on which firmware I should flash with? I cant find it in the list. ANy help would be appreciated.

!!! Ignore the above, just realised that you can't change carrier with this method. I already updated to 7.8 today via Zune TODAY as its the official release. My phone has the DLOAD bootloader which can't be downgraded to Qualcomm easily.

I keep getting an error. once the firmware has downloaded and I click on 'Update List' it states that "Product type needs to be selected by "Open product" dialog".

Any ideas?

It is a Lumia 800 and have installed all drivers and pre-requisites.

UPDATE:

Ignore me, i'm being thick!! I didn't open the product!! I assumed it found the phone when it displayed the picture! Flashing now! Thanks OP! Can't be asked to wait for Nokia to send update OTA.

Is there a way to do this without losing Google Sync ? (I want 7.8 but also want to keep Google Sync now it cnanot be signed up for any-more.
Google Sync will still work for WP until July. See theverge.com/2013/1/30/3933246/google-windows-phone-exchange-activesync-extension-july
