Nonsense ROM updates, MIUI 10 is a joke, rolling back to MIUI 9

With heavy usage I used to get 13-14 hrs of screen on time with still enough battery (15-20%) left in MIUI v9.6.14, and then I made the mistake of updating to MIUI 10 expecting better things and instantly regretted it, the battery backup wasn't good with the same usage pattern..
Then the latest MIUI pie update is an even bigger joke, barely giving me 6-7 hours of SoT, while removing useful features like Hide notch, Remove animate back button', hide pattern visibility etc
I will be switching back to MIUI 9.6.14
Edit:-. Done with rollback to MIUI v9.6.14 with good battery backup & simplicity

I downloaded the MIUI v9.6.14 rom, used twrp to install rom, then flashed forcencryptiondisabler.zip, then magisk.zip and last wiped davlink cache
Ran in to problem unlocking the phone through pattern, phone wouldn't unlock, realized that I should have removed all locks before rerolling
Next booted twrp & chose wipe with the default option (Excluding internal storage) and setup phone again, I had backed up the apps & app data in the storage so just restored them in the end.. Internal storage was not affected

Agree, same is happening to me, please when you downgrade tell me the steps to do it, thanks
Hey, hope you have unlocked bootloader and have twrp and root
0) Remove all locks/patters/fingerprints etc..Also Backup everything through built in backup (Settings>Additional>Backup>Local Backups) Most apps won't be restored so also backup apps & app data through Titanium backup
1) Now download the MIUI v9.6.14 rom
http://bigota.d.miui.com/V9.6.14.0.OEJMIFD/miui_BERYLLIUMGlobal_V9.6.14.0.OEJMIFD_9f7f9e0fa4_8.1.zip
2) Boot TWRP & install rom
3) click back button' & install DisableForceEnyption_Treble.zip
4) Click back button' & install Magisk.zip for root
5) Wipe Davlik cache & reboot
,6) If any problem after Boot , just Boot TWRP & wipe with default options & Boot, after Boot setup phone and restore the Backups made, internal storage will be as it was before rolling back

Using Backups is only needed if you run into problem like me of unable to unlock pattern after rollback, I think it was because I didn't remove pattern/locks before rolling back

I don't think that the update is the reason of this low SOT; please check if any apps running in the background or low network signal etc..

I agree with you that MIUI 9 has better SOT time but not that much as you've described.. I can get about 10-11 hrs SOT moderate usage with the latest stable update 10.1.3.0

This pic show how I got 5:30 hrs SOT with less than 50% of battery with playing PUBG for more than one hour on the latest update Screenshot_2018-12-16-09-01-35-646_com.miui.securitycenter.jpeg

MIUI 9 is a bigger joke with its overall ugliness and pathetic notification system even worse than 10's. It's literally worse in every aspect. SOT has always been the same to me regardless of the MIUI version so yeah...

Pixel experience with exposed module pix3lfy is what I keep going back to everytime I flash anything. Definitely one of the best roms for this phone.

I am also thinking of going back to MIUI 9 but I'm afraid it will bring back the touch issue again, is it possible to get back to MIUI 9 and have latest touch firmware

I agree with most of what you said.
I got my phone with miui 9.6.25 global stable and everything was perfect until i unlocked the bootloader and had an obligatory factory reset!......a weird bug in the security center appeared where clearing cache, another factory reset didnt solve it so i clean flashed the same 9.6.25 with mi flash......same security center bug still there!! so i had to try miui 10......flashed eu rom 10.1.3.0 stable pie ......security center bug GONE but you have to use notcha notch from play store to hide notch and you loose about 10% (in my case) of SOT and withstand the new ugly unlock sounds and stupid animations!.....I am also having wifi instability with miui 10 pie so am testing franco r16 kernel now(supposed to have updated wifi drivers!).
