Tips:
  • To hide status/nav bars, enable expanded desktop under system->power menu. Press power button and select expanded desktop to hide/unhide.
  • In tablet ui mode, enable stretch screens under launcher->homescreen to show all homescreen icons.

Please post questions/problems here for sdcard install of CM10/10.1

Have the CM10 up and running on my kid's nook HD and cm on a 4gb card is better than stock. My 7 year old daughter likes it better than the stock nook.

Now is it possible to copy what I have to a 32gb card?

Sent from my Barnes & Noble Nook HD using xda app-developers app
In Windows

use W32DiskImager, copy the whole 4gig SD card to a file say CM10-4gig.img by clicking READ instead of WRITE.
insert new SD card and using W32DiskImager again WRITE the same CM10-4gig.img to the SD card.
Resize the last partition (Partition 5) to occupy the larger size.

In Linux

dd if=/dev/sdx of=/tmp/CM10-4gig.img bs=4000000
dd if=/tmp/CM10-4gig.img of=/dev/sdx bs=4000000
fdisk /dev/sdx

Questions from a Noob...

Hello all,

I just picked up a Nook HD yesterday, and hoped to install CM10 on it.

Using the sdcard installer found here, I got CM10 running on my Nook HD!

Unfortunately, I have been noticing some weird things and have a few questions.

1. When I reboot, I don't see the Cyanoboot screen like in this video; It takes me straight to a blank screen (which I think means that it's trying to play the bootanimation, but it doesn't/can't) and then a fully black screen, where I can then hit the Power button or Nook button and see CM10 in all its glory. Any tips?

2. When creating the sdcard for install, I was originally planning on using the CWM bootable image and then manually flashing the ROM and Gapps zips through the recovery, but there wasn't enough space on the partition. I am probably missing something here...

3. If I take the sdcard out, does it boot to the B&N Android on the internal memory?

4. Is it possible to install CM10 to the internal memory?

5. Where do CWM backups get stored by default; on the internal or external sdcard memory?

I am pretty familiar with Android and root on quite a few devices, but the nook is one of the most complex for me to wrap my head around.

Thank you very much and keep up the good work! CM10 is quick and awesome on the HD!

1. I have the exact same behavior but quickly learned to ignore it as I don't reboot often.
3. Yes. Easy to check for you.
4. Not yet AFAIK.

Cool. Thanks for the quick reply! If you have the same issue with Cyanoboot, then I'm not too worried. I just thought it might me the nook (or me :p)...

But that was the biggest of my worries. Thanks for clearing that up.

Corrupt SD Card?

I've been using verygreen's SD card image to run CM10.1 on my HD+ for the past month.

I haven't had any real problems until the latest update (12/31). Apparently my SD card is now corrupt. Problems started when my HD+ rebooted on it's own and booted into stock ROM. Restarting didn't help. I had to physically pull the SD card out of the slot, plug it back in and then reboot my HD+. Booted back into CM10.1, but when I was reading a PDF, my HD+ froze and now will no longer boot into CM10.1 no matter what I do. I didn't want to wipe my SD and start over just yet.

Didn't know if this was a problem with the latest update or maybe my SD card is taking a dump after working great the past month.

This is the HD thread. You would get a better response if you posted to verygreen's CM10 HD+ thread. And you are running CM10, not CM10.1.

You are correct, it's CM10. My mistake.
But, I'm not allowed to post in verygreen's thread. Guess I didn't realize this was an HD only thread.

just occurred to me, how come you can make edits to the system via adb or cwm without causing a restore but if you make changes any other way it causes a restore? would it be possible to upload a edited kernel to trick the system to load a build of CM10 off the internal storage?
It doesn't matter how the changes to /system are made; all that matters is what the changes are. If an unrecognized file is present (or a stock file is replaced by a different file), the Nook will go into its reboot loop. But if a new symlink or new directory is present (or if a stock file is replaced by a symlink or a directory), the Nook will ignore it. This is true even if the changes were made by adb or CWM.

Yes, in theory it is possible to install a modified version of CM10 that will run off the internal storage. But nobody has created such a version yet. It's even possible in theory to install a modified boot image that will run the stock B&N system image without looking for changed files, but nobody has done this either.

Update version of CM10 possible?

I want to say first- THANK YOU! I love CM10 on my Nook HD.
I'm running the version from 12/28.
I want to update to a newer release.

I've read the edits to the 12/28 install but I'm still not quite sure- do I modify the installer image with the new hummingbird, and do a fresh install?
Or can I just use CWM?
Will either method leave the CM10SDCARD partition intact? If not, is there a way (currently available or in the future) to preserve that partition?

Thanks!

Nook HD noob

OK, it seems that I have no clue on how to dual boot via microSD card to my just purchased Nook HD. (not a HD+)

I am running windows8. The Nook HD is unfortunately V2.0.5 and I have never dealt with rooting androids or putting .img on SD cards. SD card is a Kingston 8GB microSD HC class4 SDC4/8GB. I am good with computers and I like to hack into gaming systems. I read what I could but it seems that I can’t get the nook to boot off of the microSD card. How exactly do you do a warm boot/reboot?

Is there a Nook DH dual boot for dummies or can you explain step by step to someone that has never done this before? I am so lost……terminology and all.:crying:

I think this is the thread you want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063968

Scroll down to where it says 'CM10 sdcard Installer'
If you can get that image (not just a drag-'n-drop) onto an sd card, then just boot up the nook and it will install CM on the sd card.

Copy the newly downloaded zip to CM10SDCARD, boot to CWM and then select the file for the update. That's it.

I used win32diskimager-binary to write the cm10-sdcard-installer.img to my SD card with no luck once SD card was placed into the nook HD and cold booted. Keeps booting in the nook OS.

Sometimes when you rewrite stuff on a card it doesn't work. Try reformatting the card using the SD formatter at sdcard.org

Then, after you've reformatted the card, try reburning the img to the card.

OK, I reformatted using sdcard.org formatter. I used win32diskimager-binary to write the cm10-sdcard-installer.img to my SD card and still no luck. Started nook cold boot. Don’t know how to do a warm boot.
