Even I couldn't see any brightness slider setting on my CM10.1 (Verygreen).
Am I missing something or others...

BTW I checked in all the locations even in settings> interface & Display

Possibly you are not using my cm10.1/sgt7 rom.
I figured it out. The status bar brightness option doesn't work with "Table status bar"
Switch to tablet mode and the slide function doesn't work.

If Tablet mode is on and you enter the status bar settings, the brightness option isn't there.
Turn off tablet mode, back up to system and back to status bar, and it is.

cannot load gapps

I have nearly completed the CM10.1 load on a Nook HD yet do not know how to load the gapp files. I loaded the image file on the SD card and the ROM to internal memory. The device Nook successfully boots to the card yet any of the apps I try and load claim to have issues with compatibility. The xda forum instructions I followed had a couple final steps I could not finish... Please help.

6) Wipe cache and dalvik. Now install gapps.

7) Wipe cache and dalvik again. Reboot.

Gapps are a separate zip file that you must flash with your CWM SD. Get gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip at goo.im. Wiping cache and dalvik is done with CWM too. But you do not need to do it twice.

Thanks. When I flashed the CWM that was done at a recovery startup. How do I go about flashing the gapps file and CWM at this point? I'm afraid I need more detail and don't know what you mean by "flashing" specifically. At this point the Nook is booting to the Cyanogen MOD not a recovery mode - if that matters.

You have your terms a little off. CWM (clockworkmod) is recovery. And flashing means installing a zip with recovery like you did the ROM zip.

Your problem is you were supposed to install the ROM zip AND the gapps zip while you were still in recovery before you rebooted. Now you have an issue of getting back to recovery to install the gapps zip. Make sure you have downloaded the gapps zip to internal memory before you do the next steps.

Now you have some work to do to get to recovery again.

Boot to CM10.1 and go to settings, about tablet. Tap on the build number several times until the developer options is activated.

In settings, go to the newly activated developer options and put a check in 'Advanced reboot'.

Then hold the power button until the power off menu shows. Select reboot. Then another menu pops up that allows you to choose recovery.

Install (flash) the gapps zip with recovery the same way you did the ROM zip originally. You do not need to wipe cache or dalvik.

RC-2

Hello,

I received a notification about being able to download CM 10.1.3.RC2 which I inadvertently did. It then said that I could install it, which I also agreed to. I'm sure that it works for some installations, but I am using the SD card hybrid version, and the installation trashed the Nook system I have internally. I found out the hard way--by trying to boot the Nook OS and encountered the cyanogen mod logo!!! It didn't boot at all, so after removing the sd card, I managed to re-install the standard b&n nook os with the '8 failed boots' method.

This trashed /data so the cyanogen os wouldn't boot. I tried re-flashing from clockwork mod but it didn't work. I finally bought another sd card, did a new installation from scratch, and everything was OK. I then put in the old card and whatever is supposed to be on the emmc was now there and it worked.

I was wondering if I could have done this from clockwork mod. I have seen something about erasing /data but I always assumed it would remove my apps so I have stayed away from it.

I have learned about this the hard way but just thought I should share my experience with CM-10.1.3-RC2.I assume it is for installation on emmc.

Thanks for the heads up. Yes, it is for emmc only. And you could have used CWM to restore a backup of the hybrid, but only after first making a new SD so that it creates the correct partition on internal memory.

I got a Nook HD just last week and have a 32GB Class 10 UHS-1 on the way. But I had an older 16GB card laying around and decided to give the dual-boot SDHC method a shot. I'm a long-time Linux user (~15 years) so I used the dd method to write the image. Everything went flawlessly, including installation of gapps and updates. Nook stock system and CM both boot and run as they should.

What I am less comfortable with is fdisk. I usually use cfdisk because I like the curses interface. I looked at the fdisk man page to get an explanation of your commands but there are none in it. Regardless, I don't have a problem with trying it blindly when the new card arrives because I can always go back and try again or re-install everything from scratch like I did on the older card.

The most confusing part is "mkfs.vfat /dev/sdx" at the end. This only specifies the card and none of the three partitions that were created during the initial image write, /dev/sdx1 (vfat boot), /dev/sdx2 (blank linux partition) and /dev/sdx3 (vfat storage). Any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your invaluable contributions.

In Linux

dd if=/dev/sdx of=/tmp/CM10-4gig.img bs=4000000

fdisk /dev/sdx

where /dev/sdx is your sdcard
Edit: The more I think it over, it seems that you are saying to make a new file system (format in Windows terms) on the grown partition, which would be /dev/sdx3. Is that correct? Would that delete any apps that I had installed on CM?

I though the man page had that, though it's clear in when using fdisk.
the first d then 4, deleted partition 4
Then n is for new partition, e for extended partition, 4 (of the 4 primary partition slots)
Then new, logical partition, #5 (created in the extended partition)
Then t to change the type for partition 5, in this case to "c" which is FAT32X (uses LBA addressing instead of CHS addressing)

Finally w writes the new partition table.
Until then nothing on the disk has changed.

It will erase whatever is on the partition. I'm not sure what is on that partition though.
sdx3 isn't being changed though. sdx4 is deleted and sdx5 is being created.

OK, all that makes sense, so thanks for the explanation. But the image created by the hummingbird hybrid image from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2097731 only makes three partitions, all primary. I think what I will try when I get the new card is to run the "dd" steps and then see if I can grow the storage partition and file system with "parted". I think it handles vfat. If stuff is going to get wiped I might as well start from scratch.

I haven't messed with the "hybrid" setup yet, so I don't know what the partition layout is.

I just know what the fdisk instructions do. After a decade of using it it sticks, even after 5+ years away.
Never really used parted other then RHL/Fedora installs. I always used fdisk in other situations.

Yes, that will work. In the hybrid, the last partition is partition 3 and is primary and fat32. It can easily be expanded with gparted. All your data should stay intact.

Just an update. The new 32GB card arrived, I ran the dd steps and grew the data partition with gparted. Everything seemed to work fine and I could mount and read the new partitions under Linux. So I popped it into the Nook HD and no Cyanogen boot loader appeared, it went straight to the Nook stock loader. I made sure it was inserted properly, double checked that everything was copied correctly and confirmed with cfdisk that partition 1 was bootable, etc. Nothing.

After all that I did the installation from scratch, except I skipped the gapps install and copied everything from the old data partition onto the new card. Voila! Up and running with a lot more space and it's pretty snappy.

I'm trying to find info that explains the differences in CM10.1/SGT7build from this thread which I have running on an SD card and the EMMC installs, be it 10.1 or 10.2

1) what exactly does SGT7 add?

2) is there a 10.1/SGT7 build that I can install on EMMC?

3) is there a 10.2/SGT7 build that I can install on SD or EMMC?

4) Finally, If I switch to the EMMC install, how do I backup/transfer everything from the SD card (apps, settings, etc) so I'm not starting all over?

Links to website/other threads appreciated.

---------- Post added at 12:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:34 PM ----------

I do have a query though...

I'm not sure specifically who to ask here but I've been directed this way...

I would LOVE to see a version of Philz Touch Advanced CWM recovery available for our Nook devices, but alas compiling from github is beyond me.

Here's Phil's developer info post on how to do it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39433612#post39433612

Hopefully someone on here will be able to make this work as It would make flashing rom's/mods SO much easier!! While it works fine, booting from an SD card every time you want to flash something is just ball ache lol

Anyway, I hope this is something that is within the realms of possibility!

Thanks in advance!!

I have a Nook HD running CM 10.1 on an SDcard (still prefer that method).
10.1-20130929-UNOFFICIAL-humminbird

I wanted to move to a larger card (have 8MB want to move to 32MB).

I went to back up apps and don't have superuser on this tablet now.
How did I loose superuser? How do I get it back?

It's my daughter's tablet, and I may have disabled it on purpose back in Sep, but I don't remember doing so, nor how to get it back.
I've been in Afghanistan and haven't got a recent back up of the card to restore.

(I looked in Settings, and no entry for superuser like I have on my tablet)

Also, do you recall how to adjust the partition sizes when doing the install? Since she doesn't really use the sdcard partition, I'd like to have a lot of space for apps instead.

I may move her to CM11 if I can get all here apps and their data backed up and restored in CM11. Still reading that thread to see what he curent status is.

I have no idea what happened to your superuser.

And there is no need to change partition sizes since /data and /sdcard share the same space.

You should be able to use the CWM on the SD to backup your SD install and then restore it to the new card once the installer partitions it.
