I just picked up the Nook HD+ with the $179 deal yesterday.

Does anyone's Nook HD+ get warm on the lower right side back after some use?

Also does the charger make a small hissing sound when charging?

Minor quibbles, but I want to be sure I'm not alone. I like the device otherwise. Thanks!

Yes and yes, although mine doesn't get warm for quite a while. The high pitched hiss from the charger annoyed me when I first got it, but I've since learned to ignore it.

I just got one too, and notice the hot bottom right too. Charging via USB right now, so not aware of the power supply issue.

I also have a Tohiba Excite 7.7 and TF300. Neither seems to get this warm.

If you mean the lower right as you look at the back of the device, that is where the microprocessor is and it gets warm from use. Not to worry, it is normal.

Sent from my Nook HD+ running CM10.1 on emmc.

How are you able to charge via USB?

Mine only allows charging through the use of the provided adapter...

The whine from the nook power supply is not uncommon. Switching power supply components are usually encased in some compound to mask the noise. Perhaps the compound was incorrectly applied. My power supply has a low-level whine. I'm not worried about it. If the whine is LOUD then I would be concerned and annoyed.

My HD+ has been in a case since day 1, so I didn't notice the heat until this week when I had it out of the case to get at the SD card and was setting up a fresh stock 2.1 install--wow, it does get hot.

Are you taking the box's word for it? It will charge very slowly via USB, and if you're doing much of anything with the tablet while it's plugged into a computer (or non-Nook power brick) you will probably see a net loss, but it does draw power. Possibly some notebooks or a PC with a really weak power supply wouldn't work.

Well going by the box honestly. Also when I plugged it in the screen continued to say battery discharging.

Running a self built rig I have a pretty decent power source...Perhaps I'll try leaving it connected overnight and see what happens.

Trickle charging via usb yields about two percent points every 15 minutes, so about 8 points per hour. This is with not using the tablet and display off.

That is about normal for other devices that trickle charge as well.

Added:

As far as the power supply, it does get fairly hot. To the point the plastic puts off a chemical smell sometimes.

I have mine plugged in by bed and it hisses pretty loud. I have had countless USB power supplies and never had one that hissed.

It seems that it is a common issue but isn't supposed to be an issue. But for me, I won't leave something plugged in that's making that kind of noise.
