FYI: Ok with N2A card, not okay with 2.1. My example is the NASA app which should be fairly pedestrian with its demands. Had a small handful of others that worked with N2A but will not install on 2.1 and forgot to write them down. I know I could go in and change the build.prop but would prefer to think that those days are over. Otherwise, kudos to BN for this release. Was great watching "GoT" (HBOGo) and "The Borgias" (Showtime Anytime). New Starz Play app works but was not up-to-date with the latest "Divinci's Demons" episode.

Since flashing unknown sources, all of my side loaded apps work as well as Market ones that said not for current device.

I have installed a few hundred apps (285). Same as my other devices. The one app that partly works for me is Zen Pinball. I have all but three tables they offer and all of them work great except the three Star Wars tables. When I pick those games, the app locks up when loading them.

Added: Flash sites like Southpark Studios and ESPN work great with Flash 11.1 installed.

Update: 5/9: Sadly seems by business speculation was correct. BN are trying to stop the bleeding of cash and purging inventory so they can reposition their P&L going forward. To make the deal with the devil and virtual enemy (Microsoft) they must have HUGE debt with their tablets.

Does it have to be a 4Gb Sandisk microSD card? I have a 16Gb microSD card, not sure what class it is either - would that work?
If you are talking about which SD to use for burning the CWM to, then any size is ok 4GB or larger. But to make it boot best, it should be a SanDisk class 4. But other brands and classes do work, but not always reliably.

Sent from my Nook HD+ running CM10.1 on emmc.

I have to say that I'm truly happy with my new Nook HD purchase. Running 2.1 and it feels better than the Nexus 7 to me. There are some stutters with certain Nook UI screens, but in apps this thing seems beefier than the 7. Pulse runs better as well as Chrome. Games I've tried seem at a minimum on par with the Nexus 7.

Just sold my 7 on ebay and this HD looks like it will easily carry me along till my next tablet purchase.

From a speed perspective, the Nook is overall as fast or faster than my Tegra 3 devices with JB. I use Nova instead of the stock UI.

Frankly, I have noticed no speed improvement with any of my Android devices going from ICS to JB.
Odd that you don't notice a difference between ICS and JB. I forgot how jittery and laggy Android (prior to JB) was until I got a Nook HD+ and a Kindle Fire HD 8.9. Project Butter in JB made a massive difference in the smoothness in every part of the operating system and it was the first time that Android was able to compete with iOS in terms of smoothness. The lag I experienced when using stock Nook and Kindle Fire was definitely attributed to being a skinned ICS software. All the lag pretty much went away when I flashed CM 10.1 on both devices.

Agree. Got the wife a Nexus 7 for mothers day (I'd purchased it long before the nook sale, which is ironic/irritating for me because she probably would have preferred a Nook HD as she was coming from a nook color (and could have saved some $)) and the HD+ is equally smooth/fast as the 7 is (w/ CM10.1).

I changed my mind.

If you are only using the Nook HD+ to read books and do web browsing, I think the stock rom might be okay.
After testing the stock for a while I found the UI is not only laggy but also buggy. I was playing Dungeon Hunter 4 and sometimes the buttons would stop working all of a sudden for no reason. In one worst case, I went back to the home screen using the "n" button. Then I tried to go back to my game by clicking on the icon, it somehow kept trying to get me back to the Google Play store instead. And the "back" button also stopped working so I could not get out of Google Play unless I press the "n" button. I never had such issues with either of my HTC Amaze on ICS, Amazon Kindle HD 7 on ICS, or my Nexus 7 on JB. I have decided to get rid of the stock rom and switch to CM10.1 on emmc.
I don't think I will ever want to go back to stock even if BN provides an update. The UI just leaves a lot to be desired... I also don't like Kindle Fire HD 7 and I have one only because it was a gift. Modified Android is not really my cup of tea. HTC Sense is not perfect either but at least it's relatively less buggy.

I have noticed some games freak out, like Shadowgun. The virtual controls would stick as example, but a device restart fixed it. I am wondering if some apps sometimes mess up due to the high res display.

The one thing that does get annoying for me is the bottom right corner getting hot. A case would help, but will also reduce effective heat dissipation.

As far as a UI, I use Nova.

What are the pros and cons of using a custom rom like CM10.1? I would install as main OS and not as sd card boot only.

What are the pros and cons of using a custom rom like CM10.1? I would install as main OS and not as sd card boot only.
Pros:
1. Much better UI with the 3 buttons I am used to. Able to go back in most cases without having to use the "n" button.
2. Faster IO than SD card. (Had 1418 on Class 4 SD and now 2133 based on Quadrant)
3. Strong HTML5 web browsing. (Vellamo HTML 5 benchmark - 1836, stock rom - 1378, stock scored the same as Nexus 7)
4. No bloatware and no annoying "sync with library" messages
5. Almost complete freedom to customize the OS environment
6. Someone reported less heat than stock. Maybe better power management? I feel the same when playing games.
Does CM10.1 use CPU power more efficiently like using hardware decoding? Seems to have less heat with CM10.1.

Neutral:
1. 3D Gaming 44 FPS on par with stock (Based on Epic Citadel 3D benchmark)

Cons:
1. Lose access to B&N App store and free Apps on Fridays (not sure if this is a big loss since I have Amazon App Store with one free app
every day.)
2. Lose B&N free book offers? (not sure if this can be saved by installing Nook reader app?)
3. Lose B&N support and may need to flash back to stock rom for warranty services
4. Some minor bugs (random flickering in system settings screen)
5. Quadrant benchmark reports much worse memory(ram) performance (stock has 4042 CM10.1 has 2425)

To me the pros far outweigh the cons. Also I did notice web browsing is much better once moving to emmc.
SD card IO performance(based on the class 4 I have) is just very bad.

Thanks for the input! Can I install over the current rom, or is this a full start from scratch? I appreciate it is cleaner from scratch, but would like to avoid reinstalling all the apps again. I would at least like to try, if possible.

Ha, ha! That was me  It's important to set the Echo Cancellation (I used the Basic setting). I haven't tried Skype yet. Hopefully, this week.

Thanks for all your work, leapinlar. I spent quite a few years helping out developers in the Microsoft forums so I know the importance and usefulness of community :)

If you have CM on SD you can restore a backup. But if you only have stock, you must wipe and start fresh.
