Actually, I see the need in a situation like this.
: You are a known dj/techie and go to a party. Someone remember your sick playlist and asks u to stream it. Someone else wants to watch a movie you have. You want to play a game thru hdmi. I also forsee the built in projectors become more popular...etc etc
Battery tech doesn't even come close to supporting such a thing when a simple 1 hour 1080p recording drains the 3100mAh battery in this beast.

Seriously? Computers can do all of that with 2 or 4 cores. You still don't need 8 cores for what you're proposing. Streaming music takes a small part of one core. Streaming a movie could take up another core, and playing a game could take up another core. That's 2 and a half or less cores being taken up by your scenario. Not even close to using up the 4 cores, let alone touching the 8 cores.

You will not need 8 full cores in phones for years to come, no matter how you try to justify it.

We really got to wait until these rumors are confirmed. I even heard that the S4 could be rocking a S-Pen which could change your mind. I'm actually more surprised that I got use to the 5.5" display and I can see them going to 6" if they ditch the buttons. We still have over 6 months until Note 3 news get intense. Let's see what Samsung will do first with the S4. Enjoy your Note 2.

Plus I'm not devoted to Samsung; I'm devoted to Google. I actually want HTC and Motorola to step up their game. I would love to see more phablets on the market.

I get why they want 4 smaller cores running the normal phone UI and the bigger ones running intensive things... I think it's a cool idea. But why not just have the a15s async and only use 2 for normal UI stuff and all of them for games and such? To me, not knowing much about how these are manufactured or how much they cost, it seems more beneficial to just have a bad ass quad core with good parameters instead of having 8 cores. U see what I'm getting at?

Maybe it is cheaper (I don't see how) to do it threaded that way, maybe it will just make a ridiculous difference, I still don't really see how though. Maybe Samsung just wants bragging rights? Good GPU and a nicely implemented less power consuming, higher preforming, quad core would be more than enough. I guess they just want the phone to have ALL the power

How old is a7? How much less power will an a7 consume over the a15? Or what about just 2 cores of the a15? To me, it just seems like there are other ways. But I don't know the details. Still though... An 8 core phone IS cooler than a 4 core phone amiright?

These are not true 8-core processors. It's basically two quad-core processors on one chip. One quad-core side is the slow side, the other is the fast side. Your phone will still only ever operate as a quad-core. It will never operate as an 8-core with this particular processor.

There will be those, like a couple people in this thread, who will run around saying they have an 8-core phone, even though the phone will only ever operate as a quad-core.

I understand that but did they not call it an Octa-core? Also the last part was a kind of majority mind set. You and I both know people will be like my phone is BA it has 8 cores.. Lol

That's also what I'm getting at, in what way is this more beneficial for Samsung or users?

It makes Samsung more money and users think they have the fastest phone on the planet. Win-win.

Marketing hype.

Those marketers skirt the border between truth and a lie.

Why does everyone have their panties in a wad about the possibility of an 8 core phone? It'll either a) be sweet as hell, super fast, have better battery life, b) not pan out and Samsung ditch the project, c) prove not to be as great as the hype sounded and give no added benefit other than bragging rights for people who like to brag, d) somehow damage the phone with use and lead to recalls and warranty claims which Samsung would have to cover.

Every foreseeable scenario I can think of either leads to benefit or no added benefit to the user. If it's horrible, don't buy it. If it costs more than the GN2 either buy it or don't. It's really bugging me how everyone is bashing the concept of added innovation to smartphones without even considering what positive benefits it could bring to the market. Not to mention it will force other manufacturers to step up. If nothing else, it'll force more manufacturers to build more quad core phones if they want to be considered a high end device.

Yes the GN2 is great but better things will eventually come out. If manufacturers don't try, we'll never see a better phone.
