Note 7 Deal, Is It Really A Deal?

Same place I got mine. He wanted $125.00 and settled for $50.00, said it's been sitting in his drawer for over two years. Looked at swappa first but I think they know about the Samsung trade in and aren't dealing.
I even went ahead and activated the S5 on my line for a good hour or so to make sure the call quality was proper and wanted the phone to have my number tied to it in the setting to 100% prove it was my phone and I used it (a little paranoid I know).

I read somewhere Samsung was going to rate devices condition upon trade-in when received. That's why it said up to $425. I didn't read the small print, but kinda makes sense.

I don't think this is true. If you look at the list of Galaxy phones no of them are worth 425. It says 425 trade value.

The Trade-In Value displayed is subject to receipt by Samsung of your Trade-in Device, in good condition as provided in these Terms and subject to all other eligibility requirements. You may incur additional charges if you do not send your Trade-In Device to Samsung within fifteen (15) days of receiving your new device or if your Trade-In Device is not in good condition or if it fails to meet any other eligibility requirements. See Sections 4 and 5 below for further details.

Facebook Marketplace, lady wanted $100 and I offered $80 and met her that day. Phone is in excellent shape, crazy for how old it is. I'm selling my Verizon V20 for $200 to Walmart, they have a gadgets to gift cards department.
Started poking around for cheaper phones to send in. Though since I owe 400 plus on my v20, all the math points to just sending in my own phone.

I picked up an iphone 5S from Walmart for the trade in. Cost around $100. Bottom line is that I don't have to add a line I don't need to my TMO account along with loosing my grandfathered incredible account. Net cost is $605 and I get $100 worth of freebies as a pre-order. I think it is a great deal for former Note 7 owners.
Would there be an issue in me getting the prepaid straight talk iphone 5s and trying to trade it in on the note 8? Just don't want to give Samsung a reason to deny my trade in.

Just to add to all the information above. I've spoken with 2 Samsung reps who have confirmed that exceptions are being made for previous Note7 owners for the $425 trade-in.

Obviously they are encouraging the trade-in of the phones listed, but if you were a previous Note7 owner they will accept any Android or iOS device regardless of model provided it's fully functional.

I'm sending in an AT&T S3, which I've confirmed with both reps.

Note 7 deal is definitely a deal if you use it correctly.
I bought a used s5 on ebay for less than $80 and also activated my Uni account for a greater discount.
I plan on selling the sd card and wireless charger. A Note 8 for under $500 is a deal to me.

I believe its a deal. Kinda sucks that they wont take the s8+ as a trade in.
But the way i see it is most people who got the note 7. Then ended up with a s7e. If you where on a plan then you probably had to pay on it. But remember samsung did give people about $150 credit for staying with samsung.
So at this time that s7e should of been paid off. So giving it to samsung and getting the note 8 half price is a pretty good deal.

Now if brought your note 7 from samsung and they exchange it for an s7e then it was already paid off. And they are simply asking you to give that phone back and you get half off the new note 8.

All seems like a good deal to me.

Has anyone done the Samsung trade in before? I just noticed that the phone I was going to trade in screen glass is loose and coming off on one side. You can't really tell unless look for it but I don't want to be out $400 if they don't count that as "normal wear and tear". Besides that the phone looks and works like new. Thinking about paying to get it fixed or just buying another phone to send in.

If you were buying a phone would you call that normal wear and tear?

Speaking more towards the op, if you just want to own your phone then I say it's a good deal. No one else is gonna give me almost 500 for my pixel.

I'm on TMobile and I don't need another line or their eip plan pushing my bill from 65 to almost a hundred dollars. I like having the option to leave whenever I want.

This is the way it came from the manufacturer, when they replaced the phone for other issues.
It's in better condition than most of the ones I see for sale on ebay \ swappa, but I hear Samsung is really picky about the screen.
I'll stop by a repair shop and see if they can glue it down better before sending it in.

Hmmm did you happen to get this in writing? Samsung has screwed me several times where I have had several reps tell me one thing and then they go back on it later. Especially during the Note 7 fiasco. I really want this to be true as I don't have any eligible trade in phones on their list.

I did indeed get it in writing via a chat with a Samsung rep. I also spoke to 2 reps on the phone.

I wanted to be positive that they all understood that I wanted to trade-in a Galaxy S3 for the $425 off. The last rep was actually cool and repeated everything I said back to me.

Hope that helps. If not give them a call.
