Which Carrier are you on? I'm with Telus, and their official statement says it's not voluntary. They recommend turning in the Note ASAP, and either getting a loaner until the replacement arrives, or swapping to a different phone.
O2 UK said the recall is happening but while their legal team advises against keeping the phone (covering their own back) you can keep the phone if you want until the new devices come in, but also should you have any concerns with the device between now and the new batch comes in the return offer still stands.

so while they are saying it is a recall and the devices will be recalled it is up to the end user if they want to keep hold of the device or not, but I'm still yet to see a UK phone go pop so to me it seems a fairly safe option to hold on to it until the new batch comes in.

Gorilla glass 5 was one of the reasons I've chosen note 7 over note 5 :crying: what a shame! I am using my note 7 for 15 days without any case or screen protector and no scratches so far:angel: I hate screen protectors and cases, but I guess I'll purchase some after I exchange my unit with the new one. (there is a slightly chance I go for a note 5, just can't decide )

Man I don't understand how you can use a phone without a screen protector and case, it's almost instinctual to me you have a pricey device with so much of your info in it and you just walk around with it naked? I can't understand that at all. Soon as I get a phone it's instant case and SP if it doesn't come with that already, or I'm not even using it. Maybe that's why my S3 and S5 still look like they're brand new out of the box :D

we have one that's only a week old. we regularly use the face down edge features.
anyways, the vibrations has managed to scratch the hell out of the phone on only a week. Truly disappointing to make a face down feature, but a screen so scratch prone that it gets messed up.

my S6 never lived in a case, I had a tempered glass protector on the screen, but even living in my pocket with my keys for about 18 months it still never had a mark on the back. the only mark it actually has is a dint in the metal surround where I dropped it on a tile floor.

No need to test

Mine slid to the floor from the couch - didn't even make a sound as it contacted the floor - it doesn't have a protector on it (is there one that is loved?) and didn't have a case on it. I have a single annoying but not terrible scratch in mine. Unless you don't want to use it until you get the replacement, scratching it intentionally just means you are annoyed at the scratch(es) while you wait.

If you have the Note 7 - I would be interested in what screen protector you are using and if you love it. I typically have one on mine but the ZAAG I tried to put on did not work out and now I am waiting until I get the new phone.

What type of surface was the floor? Tile?

That doesn't Jive with the video posted in this thread, but does with the original "bad" scratch test video.
