You didn't do a SmartSwitch backup recently or have a Samsung account configured on the phone?? That was silly.
Samsung account backs up nearly everything, particularly sms& call logs, apps, phone settings etc. If you setup the same account on a new Samsung you should be able to restore these kinds of things (not a 100% restore unfortunately, a number of apps need signing in again, accounts built again etc, but is better than the Google backup).

If you mean that the battery went zero power then all you need to do is plug it in to power it. It should still be powered while plugged in. You should have put a package disabler (not one from the Play store) on it and blocked the update.

As stated above, if it shutdown due to low power and won't charge due to the update, you can power it via USB. You have to use a powerful enough charger though, so the stock power supply.

But really if you left it this long you can't complain, I mean you didn't back stuff up previously at all at the very least?
