Today, after doing some custom firmware work back and forward, I have managed to exhaust battery to ~35% from last time I have charged it, this time this battery felt real strong and durable providing how much workload I have put on the phone flashing and booting custom firmwares over and over and over again etc etc, and just to see battery drain real slow made me even more satisfied.

Today also retired battery recharge from low 30% while phone is OFF and again by using quick charge, it was charging well and quick, battery as expected reached ~33+ C (measured popped back cover with infra-red thermometer) and while it was approaching 100% again @ 97% I notice temperature dropped all the way down to 29+ C, phone is stone cold now, battery is maintaining at 99% temperature of the battery dropped down to 27+ C , so I assume all is very well and good

Nice post, looks like you did not strip nokia battery from the nokia battery charging PCB so it literally goes two ways. I may be wrong but I believe I am not, when battery wears out on original samsung battery combination, lets say samsung s7 battery was used and abused and from 3000mah drops to ~1700mah real usable capacity, the charging chip adjusts accordingly to the current usable capacity and stops charging when receives signaling from the battery that it no longer increases in the charge capacity. Hope Im putting it out right so you can understand, I believe if you use note7 charging pcb chip on stripped nokia 800mah battery it should literally accept 800mah as total max capacity and record this "100% equivalent" memory record in to its circuit (dont know if its one way memory write though , because as if you were to add 3000mah s7 battery on the later date, the N7 battery charging pcb chip may decide only charge it to 800mah due to previous record of capacity created when 800mah battery was used...)

Its complicated I know... but thats what I would do. Otherwise, two nokia batteries if stripped could be coupled parallel (if it fits well) and you therefore have 1600mah battery) which is rather usable for at least ~ half a day off the power cable :)

I was also thinking about note7 wireless battery charger mod, I dont know whats inside of that battery back pack, but if there is enough space to store two S7 or S7edge batteries, that would be amazing DIY mod that would deliver ~9000-10000mah of raw juice coupled with S7 battery already installed in the N7 frame.

For most I hope tha note7 battery charging chip does not have memory recording feature on its own, so we can play with random batteries for as long as we find one working the best, as otherwise if it does have such effect - its sad news, as once you install less than 3000mah S7 battery for testing etc, you can never use 3000mah brand new batery to its full capacity, but I am only speculating here for the most part untill its tried.

While on this note - would you have another of the same type nokia battery to connect in parallel (doubling the capacity) to see if it still charges to 100% on indicator and last ~twice as long after this mod?

PS: I think time to time n7 backpack battery cases appear online on ebay for lots cheaper, worth a search there too

Also, the charging indicator @100% is fine and well, and setting limitation of charge to 60% in settings would result in 60% of currently measured capacity which I believe is pretty pointless as that was the aim of samsung safety/prevention methods, knowing batteries usually failed while in higher charge state - they tend to swell more and tight fitment inside the n7 prevents expansion therefore battery will be softly pushing against itself while theres a risk of failure at that shorting within itself due to built up inner pressure, thats why the limiting to 80% then 60% then 30% was put in place so batteries does not reach high charge state there fore does not expand as much within itself and the risks are greatly reduced, that's how I understand samsungs point of view on the issue.

Let me know what do you think

Update: Used phone for week with Nokia BL-5C 3.7V 850 mah Battery. Note7 battery chip was soldered to Nokia battery terminals as posted previously. Following runtimes were observed:
1) 1hr 4k YouTube video playback with full brightness, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi AC 5Ghz connection
2) 7am to 11:30 pm battery life with light to normal usage with help of external battery
I encountered following major issues with Nokia battery during testing:
1) Phone turning off anywhere below 15%.
2) After restart phone went into boot loop until charger was connected.
3) Phone would never charge 100% and never get out of charging state.

Second time around I used Blackberry LS1 3.8V 1800 mah battery. This time Note 7 battery chip was soldered to Blackberry battery’s cell. On the BB battery chip there are two terminals which can be used to connect to cell without disassembling the battery (I used voltmeter to check for continuity). These terminals on the chip are directly connected to cell bypassing all the protectionary circuit. I wanted to make sure there is only one battery circuit controlling the charging and discharging. I was comfortable connecting a 3.8V cell to note 7 circuit directly. See attached picture for the terminals I used. When I opened two different Blackberry batteries they both had different chips, so I had to waste two batteries to find the right soldering points. The newer blackberry battery is made by Samsung SDI (Hopefully this one does not catch on fire ). Following run times were observed:
1) 3.5 hrs 4K YouTube video playback with full screen brightness, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi AC 5ghz connection
2) 7 am to 4pm without external pack (lost external battery pack)

Following benefits with LS1 battery:
1) Phone drains to 0% and turns off normally
2) No boot loop
3) Phone charges 100% and shows charging complete

Major Issues:
1) Runtime less than Note 7 default battery(obviously).
2) Nothing else, Yet!!!

I saw your previous posts, amazing work you are doing there. I am very hesitant to insert a S7 battery just because the clearances are not that great. I guess its just confidence thing

very well, great job.

I have actually had a real great time with my LDU note7 with S7 battery, I would watch 3+h of youtube playtime, didnt bother with checking settings or else was just regular chilling online and killing some time, I still had 30+ battery left which lasted me entire day, so give or take ~18-20 hours of total run time, it goes to 0% before powering off, charges like normal to 100% and all seemed fine. Silly me tried some xposed and magisk mods on my perfectly running working LDU note7 and I ended up with hard-brick. It began with a boot-loop, then went in to recovery and could not do even factory reset or restore to new rom as it seemed my file system got corrupted somehow and would not let me even format storage, would take forever and then would crap out with errors. tried going in to download mode, began downloading and ended up with hung ODIN... hard reset to black screen and nothing more ever since. It was bootloop resetting with complete black screen and no signs of any kind of life, no vibration no lights of any kind, just being detected on myComputer dev manager as exynos8890 and thats that. Battery was 60+ % when this began to happen, and after days of hope I seem to have drained battery to beyond point of charging and now have complete hard brick. it does not charge while on wireless or usb connection/fast charger connection, it does not go to recovery or download modes, it does not show anything on screen, it feels a complete brick. However, I have measured battery and now it shows ~2.5v only so it appears it went just too low while I was hoping it will kick itself in on specific key-combo pressed in over a whole day while plugged in to laptop me expecting it to kick in to DL mode suddenly and ODIN will begin auto-flash, never happened. Luckily I still have apple battery which was fully charged prior removal and I hope it will give me some extra boost maybe even help freshen up cold brick boot... just 99% given up on it at this point, too much efforts, after all working on LDU was a very bad idea trying to do some mods on the firmware, killed it, nailed it :) however, S7 battery is the most excellent mod for the battery in my honest opinion.
If I will auction this LDU on ebay, I will keep the battery for someone who wants it and I also think I will throw it on ebay... in case of course if I cannot revive this LDU to play with it any more.

Wow great news. I am wondering if the S8 3500 mah battery will be a better fit  since S8 is prety much a Note7 :p

seen S8+ battery which is wider, and S8 ... well, whats the point when S7 standard battery works 100% perfectly for Note7 battery swap? :)

Hi I'm sorry for your note7... but compliments for your work! Do you still have the s7 modded battery? I'd need it for my note7 still working but without battery cause it was Swollen... I would buy it. Thanks a lot. :fingers-crossed:

I've actually done the same mod with an S7 battery and everything is working well. Sadly my phone doesn't have cell service and I'm currently using it as a fancy wifi video player for home. If anyone is interested I'll probably be selling my note 7 complete with the modified battery. Shoot me a PM

---------- Post added at 03:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:36 PM ----------

So you can just swap note 7 battery with s7 without any mod and it works? Sorry got confused reading all the posts
No, you must desolder the PCB from the old Note 7 battery to the Galaxy S7 battery

Hi, So I did the swap with a S7 battery and pcb of the Note 7 battery. So far runs very well. I'm on my first full charge and had no issues. I will start testing it out those couple of days.
After playing a couple of days with it I realise that I do charge to 100% but not 3000mAh and about 2100 2200 mAh . No idea why it does that. The battery still lasts a full day using it normally .

got my hands on some batteries, so i can post some dimensions (width, cos its the most important one and capacity), so far, those are the ones who are not compatible (i got original ones, fake and copies can and most of the time will be a bitt different size):

S6 46mm 2550 mah
s6 edge 44mm 2600 mah
s6 edge+ 44mm 3000 mah
S7 edge 42mm 3600 mah
S7 Active 40mm 4000 mah
s8 40mm 3000 mah
s8+ 46mm 3500 mah
note edge 40,6mm 3000 mah
note4 41.4mm 3200 mah
Note5 42mm 3000 mah

so far only these are compatible:

S7 39mm 3000 mah
note8 39mm 3300 mah

but still there are about 1 mm of width needed (original battery is almost less than 38mm) so you have to either take the tape off the battery and fold its sides or better remove that frame part between battery and motherboard, so, because of the size, i did the mechanical modification and put note8 battery in my note7, so far, the SOT is amazing (like more than half a day on wifi playing youtube ect) but charging is crappy (like 5 percent for half an hour, when jumps straight to about 80 and so on), of course it could because i am using note8 battery with its original charging board (no modification to battery only some to connector), will be posting more detailed info later if its gonna work out well :)

Keep us posted for the Note8 battery mod .. S7 so far works great I used it with cellular and data plan . Easiest mod and fits perfectly. Not to happy about the charge tho ... maybe because of the note 7 original battery pcb ? charges around 2200 mAh even if it says charged 100% ... Or maybe the app that reads doesnt work well ...
