Same issue, don't use Bluetooth.... Do cast regularly. Also checked my notification selections and can hear them when I click them in the selection dialog. I'm going to uncheck the battery optimization and test. I unchecked hangouts, messenger and phone. Running Feb 5 security update...

Didn't even reboot and my notification started working again.

Notification Sounds Not Working

Trying me nuts. It shows that it's turned on in settings, but will not notify me about Periscope Broadcasts. Has anyone been able to correct this problem?

Disable battery optimization

I disabled battery optimization on all apps with a notification as suggested by a previous post and I have had no problems since. 3 days without notifications dropping.
-Pixel XL on verizon with latest update.

+1 on this issue. Haven't found a solution yet. Phone ring tone and all vibrations work. Just no tones on Pulse sms, whatsapp, etc. However they all work through bluetooth.

I also have this issue from Jan update. I have a OG Pixel unrooted.

I called google support they told me to do a full factory reset. I did a full reset and reinstalled all the apps without data and manually set it up. After 48 hours the issue has resurfaced.

Someone has opened a thread in the google issue tracker, I suggest we provide bug reports there so that google can try fixing this bug.

I've noticed a similar issue, but on ringtones (for incoming calls).
Sometimes when there is a phone call, nothing is played, even though all volumes are maxed and the do-not-disturb is disabled.
I've reported about this on this forum, since I couldn't find a similar thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel/help/pixel-xl-unable-to-hear-incoming-calls-t3754957

I've also reported about it on Android issue tracker:
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/73803081

Could those issues be related?
If so, please consider starring the issue, and optionally put a comment in case you can contribute to it (bug report file, when the issue occurs, for example) .

I have also turned off battery optimization for Phone, messages and a couple of others. See attached. This seems to have fixed my issues.

To disable them, setting-battery-3dot menu at top-battery optimization-find the apps-disable optimization.

I don't use BT, my phone randomly stops ringing, but text msg notifications work. Sometimes all notifications stop as well as ringing. This is VERY bad as I am on call 24/7. Rebooting is the only thing that resolves it, temporarily. Had a death in the family I didn't find out about for several hours due to phone not ringing. Google needs to address this. Happens on my BF's Pixel XL as well. Also battery optimization is off, has always been off. I have to reboot two or three times a day to have my phone ring on incoming calls.

You say that you do not use BT, but do you have BT turned ON or OFF?

Well I tried to turn off the optimization on the phone and messaging related apps and also tried the new March update. Issue still persists unfortunately.

I have the same problem. My phone makes notification sounds but no sound when playing music or calling or receiving phone calls. I reboot my pixel 1 and it works for the first song I play but then stops. I think it's too so with Google Assistant. It started with that coming on randomly interrupting my book and making the phone inoperable.

Is this an issue with the pixel 2... Considering upgrading just so I can stop dealing with this. I have had this phone replaced so many times I have a fraud alert on my account...

Let me jump on to the bandwagon and say that the March update has not fixed the issue on the Pixel XL. The Feb update was fine though. With the latest update, the some of the notifications sounds stop working randomly after N hours of rebooting. I haven't fixed the number on N yet. The notification sounds just disappear when I'm actually using the phone although the vibration alerts work correctly. A reboot fixes the issue temporarily only to resurface after N hours!!!!! I really don't know what's up with Google...will be posting on the issue tracker

Google suggestion to me was to take my phone to one of the authorized retailers that comes to your home to fix it. They said that it is not a known issue and just had me clear the cache and uninstall message updates. When message is really updated or within a few hours I can't tell which, the issue reappeared. I know it is not all Google phones as there are two in my household and only one has had this ongoing issue. Really hoping there is a fix soon as I am awaiting a fourth replacement device that I am sure will not fix the issue.
