Notifications in the lock screen

Sorry if this has already been addressed but how do I select the notification of a sms in the lock screen. I have tried single tap doesn't seem to work well. Then when I double tap I have varying success.

Tap sms message - Box appears under message on lock screen - swipe up anywhere in that box - Do the chicken dance!

This suck if you have to do two click to get in your txt msg. There has to be better ways.

It's a tap and a swipe..how difficult can that really be.
