A slightly messy solution could be saving the webpage to dropbox.

Instafetch and OperaMobile working well for me. I used MinimalTouch.

I'm actually reading a 3000 page XDADevs thread on wakelocks on the Nook, but I had to script getting all the pages into one big 12mb file. On page 600 so far...

Some of the apps use white letters on black background. Is there a way to change to black letters on white background?

Also, there seems to be a slight problem ghosting of preceding display image. Is there a way to cure this?

---------- Post added at 09:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:55 PM ----------

Is an NST rooted with MinimalTouch still subject to OTA auto firmware update by B&N, and if so, does it ruin the rooted mode?

OTA are disabled using:

Code:
sqlite3 /data/data/com.bn.devicemanager/databases/devicemanager.db "update registry set value='manual' where name='com.bn.device.fota.mode';"

If you would upgrade to a newer system, root would be lost, reflashing the zips would root your device again.

I've been absent some time, very busy with College, when I get free time I'll redo the zips updating them, etc.

EDIT:

It dosn't block OTA as I left it out the last time I had the scripts redone, I'll readd it on the next update. Sorry.

Some things that could cause a problem for a n00b and tweaks to help

1) "Finishing installation after gmail and youtube fail" perhaps should be reworded to something because...
when I read that I thought I had messed up the youtube and gmail bit somehow

2) +1 that searchmarket fixes that problem:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/searchmarket/youten.redo.searchmarket

3) Is it actually nessessary to install GApps etc? I mean, perhaps we need to be clear why we're doing this. Once gmail is activated it's going to do wakelocks so then you got to deal with that. You can freeze it.

4) I want to link to drivers for USB adb or linux adb (edit: generally people are still on WiFi but we can use USB now... it's possible to miss this)

5) How to get back to desktop without reboot after pressing top left book key? - install book key mod. Inform people reading thread that NookTouchTools can help. Also siggest looking at ColorTools just to get familiar

edit: Also.... I nearly missed this great thread!

I'll update the thread with some of this.

Gapps is not neccesary, it's conveniant for many, I'll create a just rooting package, without Gapps when I get to update and rework the zips that I allready have.
Gamil does only manual syncs, it dosnt sync automatically, so no problem with wakelocks there.

What do you mean you search for youtube and it stated not in library? Where did you search for it and where did that error come from o_O ??

You opened the app drawer, it was there but when you opened it you were showed with that error?

Just thinking of a way to make it easier to root.

Is this possible to achieve:

1) an image of an sdcard with CWM recovery, space for a auto backup plus a prerooted, completely setup system ready to go

or

2) a ready to go system bootable from sdcard by holding the 2 lower page turn buttons

Until this though,
you can always try the other rooting methods such as TouchNooter or Noogie manual method. Although I prefer MinimalTouch...

Option 1 is achievable except the "completely setup system ready to go", I cant create a modified system image and data image with my accounts.... when you use Gapps you use your accounts.... (with all the problems we have getting market and gmail to sync bypassing the Nooks strange way of controlling this, dont know and havent tried to change the gmail account once set).

Option 2.... well SDcards are much slower than Internal memory, a system booting from the SDcard is nice for experimenting not for general use.

I download from the market cool reader and it is now on my nook, so i guess all is ok, at least what I need... my only problem now is how to go back to adw home screen after reading, but i will look for this, i don't want to disturb this developemnt part of the thread with my stupid questions ... one more time sorry for the inconvenience

First of all, thanks to eded333 for all his work.
I´ve got a little issue with the Gmail application. Unfortunately, I´m unable to change the font size as this function does not appear in the settings. Is there a workaround for this?

Just use Root Explorer or ES File Explorer. System/app is in the (hidden) root folder of the internal storage.
Alternatively, you can do the same by using ADB. But that´s a bit more complex.

Thank you for including the guide on how to root. Very easy to follow!

I wanted the best of both worlds: Amazon's market (which will hopefully be around for quite some time) and the Nook's superior design (IMHO). Now I've got it :)

Didn't replace framework, marketplace took a little under 24 hours as expected.

All tools are stated on the first page, it all depends on your needs, I'd personally use the XU minimal touch.
http://nooter.googlecode.com/files/XUMinimalTouch-PART-1-START.zip
http://nooter.googlecode.com/files/XWU-NWU-MFTouch-PART-2-END-1.zip

Hey, I have an unusual battery analysis after using this nooter, please look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695319

It has been stated many times before, and it is normal behaviour, the battery management isn't standard on the phone and it isn't reported correctly so just forget about it, and don't delete any apks, it is worst if the system looks for a file and it dosn't find it.

You need to make the system writable, i'd use ES File Explorer, download it, go to settings, enable root acces and mount system with writable permissions.
