thanks again for your quick reply. I should be really bad, because, when i go the the ES setting, and try enable root acces, it say, it failed can't be runned on my device :confused:i don't know what to do ?

Are you sure you are rooted? Did you allow root acces when it asked for it?
Try rerooting.

You need to make the system writable, i'd use ES File Explorer, download it, go to settings, enable root acces and mount system with writable permissions.

The way I installed a new keyboard was
1. Install it from the Market
2. Copy apk file from /data/app to /system/app using ES File Explore. First I tried to move it from /data/app to /system/app, but it did not work. Copying made the trick.

I cannot make search in Market work. Sure, I can use AppBrain or SearchMarket app, but would be nice to have search inside the Market. Software version 1.1.2 and I used beta5-2XUFullTouch-PART-1-START to root NST. Does it work for you guys, who used XU minimal touch? Can I just reroot using XU minimal touch, or do I have to restore to stock first (not sure how to do it yet)?

All tools are stated on the first page, it all depends on your needs, I'd personally use the XU minimal touch.

i have changed the versions and now it works... but now i have a new problem, when i plug my nook to the computer, it doesn't show up. Is there any option i haven't notice ? sorry again for being so noob ;)

I'm using beta5 on firmware 1.1.2. Market search doesn't work, I have to download from Google Play and have the apps pushed to my Nook. Social sharing in the stock settings doesn't work. Do I have to register my social accounts before rooting like how you have to register your device?

I am having the same issues as above. Market search I can live without thanks to Searchmarket, but social features won't work: every time I go to the login page under stock settings, I'm just bumped back to the previous menu. Has anybody else experience this issue besides myself and tehriddler? Anybody know of a fix?

To be clear: since I've apparently already linked the Nook with Facebook, quote sharing from books I've bought still works fine. But as I never associated my Google account with the Nook stock software, I don't have access to my contacts, and in general, I can't access or edit any of my social settings (even if Facebook still works). This is likely a long-standing issue, and I only noticed it now since I had to revert to a backup image of my Nook thanks to the data partition filling up/my needing to resize it. That backup was made using the manual rooting guide in this thread 6 months ago.
Apologies in advance if this has been answered. xda search has been temporarily disabled and Google has failed me.

I'd also like to know if this method works if you already have updated your nook to 1.1.2.

Seems like a pretty straight forward method other than that one question.

If it needs 1.1.0 is there a preferred way to downgrade it?

i have rooted my nook and now cant access to my wifi .... my firmware version 1.1.2

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1475613

I'm not sure if this will work or not with 1.1.2

Instructions on how to restore to original stock.

What version is your Nook displaying now? If it's 1.1.0 then you might be having that wifi issue where it is incompatible with your router. Can you try it on a different router? My Actiontech router didn't work right with my nook on 1.1.0 so I followed these instructions and then it worked.

I wonder if the wifi fixes they put in the 1.1.2 update no longer work once your rooted.

Did you try the fix I mentioned for the router (last link in my post)?

Followed instructions in OP, starting with factory installed 1.1.0, everything went smoothly using the beta files linked in the OP, now have working gmail and market can download apps but I cannot search the market, and when reading a book in the BN stock, I can no longer open settings to get book details.

Those who would trade Liberty for Security, will end up with neither.

So I have been wondering whether or not to keep my root and adw launcher out go back to stock. To recount my experience, following the OP instructions I flashed a spare SD card with CWM, and downloaded the beta folder files from the link in the OP.
Took a few tries for the SD card to recognize on boot, at first I thought I had messed something up... Finally booted into been cwm, followed the instructions without a hitch, save that YouTube wouldn't accept my login the first couple of times.
booted back into cwm, flashed second file and rebooted. Everything seemed to be working except that the market search was broken... Spent a couple of hours playing with the different settings checking out the options, when I started to notice a couple of bugs creeping in.

1. The system seemed to be getting a lot slower, just kind of lagging when going from one screen to another. Some apps really took a while to load. (even taking into account that the hardware really isn't super fast to begin with)

2. I had used the nook touch tools app to remap the settings button on the B&N quick launch bar to launch the nook color tools app for the more robust settings menus, and set the long press nook button as the Adw home. This worked just fine for about three hours, then suddenly, the icon for settings in the quick launch bar changed to the icon for nook color tools. At about the same time (although I don't know if it's connected) the shop button on the quick launch bar stopped working. When I would press the shop button, the screen would freeze for just a second and then
Flash and nothing would happen. The only way to get to the shop was to click the B&N hot 100 link, and then click the shop title to get to the main shop screen.

3. At this time I noticed that the search in the B&N store was unresponsive. Just like market search, it would sit there with a blank screen.

It was getting to be a little much so I restored back to stock with the stock recovery. (as much of a flashaholic as I am I didn't see the need yet to put cwm on the internal system)
Booted back into the stock B&N software, played around for a few minutes to make sure everything was working like it should... Then re did the root procedure from the OP, this time had no problems with YouTube or Gmail in between the zip file flashes... Booted back up into adw and started looking around. Shop button on the B&N quick launch bar still is not working, and the search in the shop only sometimes works.
At this point I am trying to decide if I just want to go back to stock and let it be. I have an OG EVO, An EPIC TOUCH 4g, and two nook colors, all of which are rooted, and have custom roms, so I can get my fill of Android cracking.

Reasons to keep root:
Apps... I don't have a lot that I would find useful, but there are a few. Box is great for transferring files I like to keep handy, having the kindle app would be fun and ironic... Perfect viewer is the app I use for pdf files, I like the extended settings and button remap abilities of nook touch and color tools apps... And software data cable is great for wireless file transfer... And last, Titanium Backup... Enabling me to upgrade button savior to pro as well as get my paid version of fancy widgets, etc.

Options... Let's face it... The extended settings of Nook Color Tools, and the button remap abilities of Nook Touch Tools are almost worth root by themselves.
Sideloading apps is a nice option to have even if you don't intend to use it. And the search market app did end up working for me btw.

However, I really plan on only using this to read books... I have plenty of other devices to hack. Other than a better pdf reader and the ability to read Amazon books, I don't know that I need the options root gives me on this device.

Anybody have any thoughts on the subject?

p.s. I noticed some posts talking about not being able to get back to the adw home without rebooting... When I re did my root process a second time I noticed that the Burton savior trigger was very small and hard to see. When I tried to click on it it didn't respond. I had to open button savior and choose a different theme before it would work. Maybe a glitch in the first run settings?

And big thanx to the whole XDA community... Between here and AndroidForums.com I haven't had a problem I couldn't get out of on any Android device yet!

Those who would trade Liberty for Security, will end up with neither.
