oh really ?
i tried but its getting 'there is a problem parsing the package' error while installing ... hmmmm ...

That generally means the android version is wrong or there is some other incompatibility with the hardware.

You're not referring to the YalpStore itself, are you?

Yes, there is a difference. Only a really old F-droid apk might run. Look a few lines below and you'll see a download link for version 0.28 (about 1 MB). I just downloaded and installed the new version right on my NST. Easypeasy.

Does anyone know why, even though i have this rom installed with a factory reset done (and all other wipes), the NoRefresh mode doesn't seem to be working? I spent a whole day trying to get it work by wiping the device, reinstalling rom and such but still when i click the icon in the drawer it only "flushes" the screen once and doesn't enable this mode, it isn't the first time i tried getting it operational. In the NoRefresh settings i can toggle the service to running state, I have white-listed all applications and still no effect. Any thoughts?

can you please open a web browser and go to a website with long scroll able page, now click the no refresh icon in the drawer ... after it flashes once as you say it does ... now scroll the opened webpage ... if you see the page scrolling smoothly ... then the norefresh mode is fully functional ...

HI dudes,

I'm wondering, I rooted my old Nook simple touch but the Google app does not want to connect to the internet, can't enter my gmail, can't go to the store either, do you have this kind of problem too ?
(I did not root with the root methode in this thread btw)

Thanks

Probably the best thing to do at this point is this:

1. Use NookManager's Restore factory.zip function to return your Nook to stock.

2. Update your Nook back to 1.2.1 if it's not already on that version (check Settings > Device Info > About Your NOOK® > Software version).

3. Wait for @yattaro and I to get our update fixed. :p

Hi. So, if I have 1337 ROM installed in a running state (or not so much so) and I have a NookManager backup, I will be ok to use NookManager, as above, and restore the backup to get the NST back to that previous state?
I assume restoring the factory.zip to get back to stock is necessary to reverse some changes in 1337 ROM.

I'm going to give this a qualified "yes" because I believe the NookManager backup is complete. So restoring it will give you back whatever you had when the backup was made. Everything else will be wiped out. I do not think you need to do a factory restore unless you have some desire to return to oob stock.

I've not worked with the 1337 ROM and the two developers are long gone, but I'm pretty sure that NookManager is the way to go if you made a pre-1337 backup and want to return there.

Hi,

As you all know B&N has pushed update 1.2.2 ... I recently upgraded ... i used Glownooter and turns out it can be rooted and unlocked for access as an android device.

I was wondering if somebody would be willing to recook @yattaro 's 1337 ROM using the latest official 1.2.2 firmware ?

thanks

My guess is that Opera Mini is not TLS 1.2 compliant and so fails on most websites. It may have a setting. Try typing "opera.config" into the address line. If that brings you to any settings, look for "Security" and TLS 1.2. Failing that, uninstall Opera Mini and install Opera Mobile 12.10 and follow the directions here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-touch/general/opera-mobile-tls-1-2-t3843524

No version of YouTube will work on the NST/G. Period. No logins from Android 2.1. Uninstall.

Google cut off PlayStore access to Android 2.1 in 2017, so the Market app and SearchMarket are useless. You can uninstall the latter, but leave Market alone and ignore it. If you want access to the PlayStore, install the Yalp Store. To get it working correctly, tap on the "update" bar after it settles down. Don't update anything, just login with the generic Yalp Store login. That will get search working and everything else. In Settings, change to light theme and whatever else you want.

Thanks for the tip with Opera - now it works much better, I can actually use Internet in my NST : )

I just wanted to watch some cats videos - but as I see even m.youtube (in Opera) is not supported? Do you know any other way to effective watch videos or even gifs/webm?

Re: Youtube, here's what worked for me.

You need Opera Mobile, MX Player, either FastMode or NoRefresh, and USB Audio if you want sound.

I don't know whether you need to be signed into Google on the browser, but I am.

Go to youtube.com. You should be redirected to the mobile site. Tap on a video. You get a message saying it can't play. Dismiss with back button (the one on the status bar). Now you're on a page with slightly larger image of video. Long-press and select "open in new tab". Video opens in MX Player. Closing MX Player takes you back to Opera.

Thanks again : )

I looked for MX Player for 2.1 and found last this version - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/j2-in...ayer-1-7-40-froyoeclair-android-apk-download/
But problem is I cannot download it. I tried on 3 separate devices and Internet connections. Do you have apk to spare with me?

I downloaded codecs package fro Neon but I cannot enter the menu - app want to update online anyway.

Ok, I get "mx-player-1-7-40-froyoeclair-android-apk" version but codecs are missing. When I try to download them, I get connection error. Internet is working fine.

Both MX Player 1.7.40 and the NEON codec are available through the Yalp Store (PlayStore) app. Did you not install it? The apk files are larger than the maximum posting size here. Install MX Player first and then the codec. If you already have the codec installed, remove it and start again.

@nmyshkin ... a small doubt ... this yalp store shows apps that are only compatible with our devices android 2.1 ?
Generally, but when it doesn't it will indicate "incompatible" and not allow a download/install. Same with paid apps. No purchases through Yalp Store.

Edit: I should have added that even supposedly "compatible" apps which install without a problem may refuse to run due to screen density issues or any one of many other factors. So it's trial and error for the NST/G. That's why I provided a package of apps (see signature) which are known to work.

Welcome, fellow Nook users, to the future of the Nook Simple Touch! We present to you: 1337 ROM!

This ROM is made for both the Nook Simple Touch and the Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight using software version 1.2.1.

    Features

    Installation Instructions

    1. Install Clockworkmod Recovery (to internal memory, not the SD Card) according to this thread.
    2. Download the latest version of the ROM from the Downloads section. THESE ARE NOT FLASHABLE FILES.
    3. Extract the package to an accessible location. You should have three *.zip files.
    4. Copy all three *.zip files to the SD Card or internal memory.
    5. Boot to Clockworkmod by rebooting and holding the bottom left and right buttons at the "Your Nook is Starting Up" screen.
    6. Wipe /system (mounts & storage > format /system > Yes)
    7. Flash the nook_1337rom_xx.zip and reboot.
    8. Follow through normal B&N setup, then boot back into recovery.
    9. Flash Nooter-Part1.zip and reboot back into the OS.
    10. You should be brought to ReLaunch instead of the B&N homescreen.
    11. Open YouTube. Hit Menu -> My channel. At the prompt that appears, tap Add Account.
    12. Sign in with your Google credentials (Gmail and password) and close YouTube.
    13. Open Gmail. Tap menu -> Sync. Gmail will promptly crash (straight to home; no FC or "unfortunate" stop)
    14. Reboot back to CWM again. This time, flash Nooter-Part2.zip.
    15. Reboot again and enjoy!

Upgrade Instructions for coming up from previous versions of the ROM
    1. Download the latest *.zip file and extract it somewhere safe. As a reminder: THIS IS NOT A FLASHABLE FILE
    2. Copy the three contained *.zip files to your SD card.
    3. Reboot into recovery.
    4. Wipe /system (mounts & storage > format /system > Yes)
    5. Flash all three files in this order, without rebooting: nook_1337rom_xx.zip, Nooter-Part1.zip, then Nooter-Part2.zip.
    6. Reboot.

Note - Be sure to check out the 2nd OP for the changelog, planned features, FAQ, and more.

Would love to try this out but I'm not seeing the links for the 1337rom, nooter-part1, and nooter-part2. Am I missing something?

It's a DevDB project. Look above the OP.

Hey sorry I've been gone for a while again. I think I'll have to drop this ROM myself. I really do want to be an active member of the community, but I've just got no time for full development on my end. I thought I could make the time, but I couldn't because my family wants me to spend more time with them. The Nook was an interesting platform to build on, but it's also pretty finicky compared to the new Nexus 6 I just got, and it's more work than it's worth for me.

    Can you post some screenshots?
Which homeapp is used? I'm asking as the one in [NST/NSTG][ROM] Tweaked Modded ROM [Feb16] is restarting / falling into refresh loop with some of my books, which is a bit annoying :)

It uses ReLaunch. Give me about an hour and I can throw together some screenies.

Edit: they're up now! Sorry for the delay. Check up top.
