I'm from Argentina. I just received a UPS letter saying that my replacement Tablet is held up in customs. I've talked to UPS over the phone and they tell me that the sender didn't asume responsablity of any extra charges so I need to pay import taxes (which usually is 50% of the package cost). I'm trying to see what I can do, but if I have to pay u$s130 to get my replacement I'll return it.
To make things clear, NVIDIA doesn't asume responsability for any extra charges at customs. Not only that but, by UPS policy, once you receive the letter, you asume that responsability (storage and import taxes).
I'll report back when I have more news.
Yeah, thanks for the advice. I've already sent an email to that address and I'm waiting for a response. I'll report back when I have any news. That's very weird. Mine was shipped in Sep' 21th from Indianapolis, and arrived today, Sep 25th on Brazil. That's faster than our own postal service even inside the country.
I was worried about import taxes, but nVidia in an earlier e-mail told me to not worry about. In the tracking system, I could see there was an exception due to they didn't have my personal data to pass through customs, but I don't know how, they made it up very quickly and it arrived to me today.
The most interesting, there's an attached invoice from UPS, with a message telling me not to pay this invoice because it'll be paid by the sender. It was a total of R$ 1.145,06, which is aproximately US$ 285. The tablet was declared with US$ 282,72 value, so, aproximately 100% of taxes, paid fully by nVidia.
This also gives to us an idea of how much does it cost to nVidia a tablet (US$ 282,72).
So, kernelmoron, you should try to contact nVidia through their e-mail address about the recall: [email protected], I think they'll arrange the payment of theses taxes to you.
Hi all,
Just got an email from a UPS rep in India asking me to fill out a few KYC forms. Tab was shipped from Netherlands on 17th and will arrive at Mumbai on 19th.

That's reassuring. Given the shield was never sold officially in India, I was on the hook on whether they would ship the replacement here. Still no shipping update though!
29 June ;p received 31 August so, basically 8 weeksWhen did you guys file for replacement? I did the whole recall process in August 12th and haven't received my replacement unit not have I got an email about delays in shipping. Only email I got was confirmation and a 3-4 week window.

I'm from argentina too, and I'm pretty sure we will have to pay import fees, once I received a replacement smartphone from allyexpress, I neve paid for that phone but I had to pay 50% of the price to get it from customs. I'm sure I wont have a new Shield Tablet, because I wont pay any extra to get it.
It never arrived, nor I received any emails from Nvidia =/I forgot to comment, i didn't had to pay any fees in the end, i just explained that it was an RMA from a faulty battery, customs asked me to present some sort of proof of that so i just took rma confirmation emails in and that was just enough, i guess customs employees are not that bad after all. Did you get yours man ? Saludos.
so just an FYI, if you connect a power source straight to the red and black wires going to the battery and short out the green and white terminals the device WILL boot and stay on without a battery…
working on possible setting it up as nexus player/shield tv
Consider the ginormous screw-up that they did with the battery and reading the process on the page it would seem that they will send you a new tablet and when you open it, the other one will be rendered unusable which basically makes it a giant ball of turd or a brick
Not sure if they want it shipped back or not but by what i'm reading they won't. Even so i don't mind keeping the blank one for spare pieces.
does anyone know how to check battery type on non-stock roms? I have CM12.1 currently installed and I would rather not need to go back to stock just to find out I have the non-recallable battery type.
Q. How do I know if my tablet is affected?
A. The recall includes NVIDIA SHIELD tablets (both WIFI and LTE) sold between July 2014 and July 2015.
Model numbers P1761, P1761W and P1761WX and serial numbers 0410215901781 through 0425214604018 are included in this recall. The model and serial numbers are etched on the left side edge of the tablets and printed on the packaging.
Please go to www.nvidia.com/support/tabletrecall and follow the instructions. You will need to update your tablet with the latest software to determine if your tablet is affected.
