o smart crackly mic issues

I am really enjoying my new omate! The only issue I am bothered by is the muffled and crackly mic on use during calls without BT headsets. I hear callers very well, but they complain of bad sound, quiet, etc. I am sure I have seen somewhere Omate acknowedging this issue as being due to the waterproof covering over the mic, and offering the suggestion of using a pin to break this if one preferred call quality over water protection....but I can't find any helpful instructions on how to approach this, and no reference to the issue being dealt with effectively by anyone on this forum. Any help here from experienced Omate users? Does this require removal of the back cover, or can this be done from the outside?

Thanks in advance,

Rhetor

You will need to forgive me here...I really did try last night reading fro about an hour and a half through the 11 pages of threads here, as well as months worths of kickstarter and Facebook comments....for about an hour and a half.. I admit I did not see the post three or four below, as it was posted after I read last night, and I did not think to reread before I had a chance to post my question. But as no one seems to have answered that post at all, I am not sure how that might have helped? I would please very much appreciate being steered toward any of the previous threads referring to this issue...I tried, I really did....and I really had no desire to clutter the forum, I just hoped for a solution

Its funny how phone calls are all muffled yet just using the mic with Google search or recording audio its OK. I'm sure there's a reason for it. There seems to be a reason for everything omate and odd

FB and KS are useless. G+ is better but not by much. Take all that and dump it here and what you experienced is the result.

As far as your issue, I'll be honest, I've answered it numerous times but what's one more time. The firmware is garbage and there is a serious inconsistency with build quality. My suggestion is to use a BT headset at all times. You can expect the BT headset to lose connection form time to time but at least to person on the other end will be able to hear you.
@rhineymac
Mic gain and bad firmware. The mic gain settings for phone calls are most likely wrong.

I think that its caused by "microphone feedback phenomenon" when loudspeaker is loud and looping back to microphone because they are near.

My settings...(bad sound)
Level 0 - 64
Level 1 - 112
Level 2 - 136
Level 3 - 160
Level 4 - 184
Level 5 - 200
Level 6 - 160
@DaBountyHunter Did you give us your sip values by mistake or those your mic?

Thanks
I did exactly as seth asked me for. I'd probably change your values to what mine are and see how the mic performs. The values I have are unchanged from the shipped device I've received.

I have not done this on more than one TS so far, not feeling the love for the idea of fixing even more stuff. Results;

Echo/crackling- Set all values to 255 - got worse
Echo/crackling- Set all values to 1 - got better but still there and required I yell into the mic to be heard

Even tried Talkatone, which has software based echo and noise filtering, no change. At this point I'm gonna call it.

Those with good mic, no echo and clean audio have units that were built "just right".

Hmm, maybe I should try Talkatone again. I never could get duplex sound with it.

Just for reference, I've got two 1/8 2100MHz 0328-watches, and have not had to do anything about the mic. Both watches have very clear sound with the built in microphone, tested both voice calls and recording with the recorder app. No complaints.

Was not the case for me. I had five, yes five, (1- 512/4, 4- 1/8 1900) and every one of them has mic issues. Four of the five have been completely disassembled and rebuilt with no success. All five work perfectly when recording audio but either have severe echo, garbled, no audio during calls. All five were flashed to the exact same firmware with the exact same settings.

Even one that I removed the mic water seal on still had issues.

change rom?

so some of you removed the water blocking white sealant and microphone started working(probably was working before the stuff was removed).. Since this is most likely firmware/software..will the Unified 1/8 1900/2100 Unrooted Secured Tuned Stock Rom help?
Thanks
