Wow, been away from this forum for a few months and alot seems to have changed! Tried the new ROM - thanks dsa8310 - prob the quickest to load and looks nice with a launcher that is my cup of tea, and lots of wrinkles ironed out; but it's just a bit laggy whilst trying to use it. Think I need more RAM like others have done to be able to run 5.1.1 properly, but don't think I can afford the outlay on that as well as all that has been spent on this device to date unless I can find someone who can solder cheap for me!

Just upgraded to this (after completing the 2GB RAM upgrade the other day) and wow is it a huge improvement, boots faster, hardly any lag when switching apps (especially once the HU has been booted up for a minute or two). I was a little disappointed after the RAM upgrade on my JY stock 4.4 ROM things were better but not that much of an improvement but with this ROM it really flies.
Also love the new radio app, the ability to custom name presets (and not have the cycling RDS data keep changing the preset name) and the fact that you can directly key the frequency you want are a huge improvement (especially since the less than perfect reception often means weak stations get skipped during a scan).
I have voice calling working (I just disabled with Titanium Backup the stock phone dialer so it automatically defaults to the MTC Service one).
Only 3 gripes are:
1. For some reason now the icon for Torque in the notification bar is just a solid white block now and doesn't change based on connection status, etc.
2. MTC keys doesn't work, I used to have voice search mapped to the SRC button but now I have to take up a spot on the homescreen with that.
3. The notification bar is a little cluttered on the right side, not sure I really need an icon to turn off the screen or adjust volume when I have physical knobs for that.

Not quite. The thing is, the patches will *never* be accepted into upstream xposed, since they are pretty much a device specific hack. Essentially, it is pulling in a commit from Android 6.0.

So I've forked the repository and cherry-picked the appropriate commit into my personal repository here;
https://github.com/lbdroid/android_art-1/commits/xposed-lollipop-mr1-rockchip

Great that the RAM upgrade improved things.

Sounds like you need an antenna booster - I get loads of stations when mine is connected.

I haven't made a note of it I'm afraid. From memory, the line in build.prop that enables / disables the screen off button ends with barbacklight, or something like that. The line for the volume control is very nearby and will be rather obvious. Have a search for build.prop in this forum and you should find it the precise info.

How much quicker is it to boot btw? Also have you changed the MTC manager apk? I had a thread on it a while back which fixed MTC xposed apps for me. I'll try and find the thread for you tomorrow.

I'll time it in a little bit, have to head out and pull/edit the build.prop but like twice as quick 15 vs 30 seconds at a ball park. Also before my headunit would be pretty unusable for the first minute or so after boot up now its usable and then flies after 30 seconds or so.

What do you mean improved xposed apps?

Thank you, I will take a look at the build.prop. I have noticed something a little weird seems like when I shut the car off and leave it for a while (so the accessory timer expires and it boots from cold. The screen doesn't turn on, I have to press in the volume knob and then it turns on. Also when shutting the car down, the HU displays shutting down (like it used to w/ 4.4) then the screen shuts off and then a few later it flickers on and then off again.

Hi Jakejm79, how did you upgrade the RAM, was it a DIY or you need someone to help you. Any HOWTO's would be appreciated :)

So I just timed it, about 28 seconds from when the Eanon logo appears (first power on) to I have a usable desktop as it were. A little longer than I though but it seems to be quicker than what I had before.
Still having weird issue when turning it on, sometimes it comes on fine, other times it appears to boot with the screen off, pressing the volume knob turns the screen on and it is mid boot. Also had some issues where it appears the MTC Service isn't doing its job and I get the black desktop with just the notification bar, rebooting doesn't help, but pressing the reset button does.
Does anyone know of a way to safe the radio presets, now there is room for 30 that can be custom named, its takes a long time to reinput them.

On to cleaning the notification bar, two lines you need to alter in the build.prop are:

Code:
ro.product.barvolume=true
ro.product.barbacklight=true
Change them both to false.

I dropped it off at a specialist company, wasn't cheap but they were more than qualified to do the job.

Have you updated your MCU ? It may well sort out the random behaviour youre having.

MCU MTCC KLD9 v2.98 allows saving of radio presets, assuming you have a KLD unit.

This is what I did to get xposed apps working under LL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68563378&postcount=820

Out of interest, what is the time from switching on to first load of the android home screen? Mine was around 28.5s under the October LL - and usable pretty soon after that, although it was almost 40 seconds before I changed the MTC Manager.apk (this is not the same as the MTC Manager Xposed application) as set out in the link above (but was quite laggy thereafter). It's now about 31s on 4.4.4 which is pretty smooth - just the google voice search is not working as well.

After optimization I get 24 seconds with last app running (poweramp, radio etc) I'm using latest kitkat from booroondok, on lollipop the system was only usable the first week with all of optimizations etc...thats why I switched to kitkat and I did't have to replace mtcmanager apk because it was allready modified.
I get 5 seconds faster boot than on latest Malaysk kitkat rom.

Johnny DJ - how do you get 24 seconds on booroondok 4.4.4 - what optimisations are you running? A fresh install of booroondok booted in 24s for me, but by the time I had loaded on some apps it was 30s.

I unninstalled all the launchers except one and disabled all apps I do not need in app manager and also unninstalled all xposed modules I do not use. It may be even better if I uninstall all the apps I don't need with titanium backup. I read that editing build.prop will reduce boot time, so will investigate this also...

I've done similar. Taking of the launchers and disabled some apps. Saved about 1 second on boot time. Actually disabling things like exchange services seemed to slow down bootup. Xposed modules MTC keys and manager added a couple of seconds. I think an improved build.prop might help and the install recovery.sh too.

It's a JY unit and I have been on the latest MCU for a while. Maybe I will try reflashing it.

About 32 seconds from first turning the key to I have a home screen loaded. I do have torque autoload for the USB OBDII dongle and the MTC Sound Mod. This is with no optimization and all the apps I will use loaded.

Xposed seems to be working for me, at least the 3 modules I use:
MTC Servce, MTC Sound and Notifyclean (or whatever its called).
