Im wondering what I should do. I need root, i hate not having root. I've been waiting for att root for a few months now. Not showing promise though, is it time to go Tmobile version? or does it look promising for att to be rooted?
It's all still in the air, in one of the other Root threads (link), looks like the wait is on for a .tot file. But it's a VERY difficult thing to get a hold of

Yeah, the OTA update looks for key specific "stock" things, if the device fails to meet them, the update fails. I think a lot of the carrier bloatware is checked

I haven't used ADB in a LONG time so, I wont be any help to you there. Google could though ;)
There are a lot of options out there now that with a little research, provide SOME options, that you can get by without Root. Although they may not be as good as having Root, AdAway is a great example for me at least.
Good luck with ADB and making your system back up
FYI: AdAway is gone for violating developer distribution agreement. But if all it did was block ads, that's no biggy cos AdBlock Plus is still around :D

Gonna try Helium. Seems like a great (and by great I mean I like that it's from ClockworkMod :p) app alternative to Titanium Backup for a non-root user. Will report back on ADB...apparently I didn't install all the parts to Android Studio that I needed to so I'm reinstalling that and will try again.

Thanks again for all your help! :good:

Why do we need a tot file incase of bricked phone if root goes wrong when we can use this method if it happens?

http://www.appmarsh.com/guide-to-fl...nal-stock-rom-using-lg-flash-tool-kdz-method/
The tot file is what the developers (such as @jcase) need, to create a rooted system. Without the original .tot there will be no root.

What is tot file? How to open tot files?
The tot file extension is associated with LG smart devices LG G series, LG V10 etc.
The *.tot file stores archive with full flash of operating system. It allows users to restore phone to factory default state for example after unsuccessful installations of custom ROMs (bricking the phone), rooting, boot loop etc.
The TOT archive format is not developed by LG and often used by third-party LG tools.

Now if someone can pull a tot file this could be the start of root. AT&T is infamous for not sharing the tot

This instructional may be helpful, though I'm not sure it will work for the v10

In addition most KDZ files can be found here LG FIRMWARE UPDATES. All you need do is place your IMEI where indicated and you will see the software available.

I would be suspicious. I have used that LG Flash Tool in the pics on my LG G2 way back so the tool is legit but this blog with the constant misspellings, the tool pics, and the files are questionable.

If I was at home I could look at the files but since I'm not, I can't really help.
